  1. does anyone know where to get a copy of 1997 finals? bvp didn't tape them then, and i don't know who did. any help would be great. thanx dave
  2. just cut the jackets apart and sew them all together to make one ugly jacket.. problem solved.
  3. deftguy, i don't think that you understand what i was saying. part of being in the pit is performing how you strike they keys, not just in your facial expressions. in a way i agree with you that there can be too much dancing in a show. dancing for the sake of dancing. i was always taught with more of a focus on the equipment. so dancing is one of my weaker spots. now, if you do not use the triad in color guard, you do not get credit. plain and simple. that's what they are looking for. a guard who adds body under their equipment, and does it well, is going to do better than a guard that just stands there or just marches and spins. the criteria is set be the judges. i do agree with the use of the triad. the first couple years i marched in dca, we didn't do much with it at all. as time went on, it was incorporated more into the shows, and there was a total difference in the outcome and look of the show. how "drum corps" moments were created and enhanced by the use of body. this past summer, there was not a set with out body underneath the equipment, and if they were standing still, it was rare that there was not a count of work without body. it paid off. now i'm sure you are going to have some sort of reasoning for this.. i'm just stating personal experience here. and personal experience. i know standing near the judges area dca weekend watching the color guard, i could see facial expression, as well as body. where color guard goes from here, i do not know. watch, experiment and find out.
  4. a couple things to touch upon. as a musician.. you need to emote through the music.. if you do not play with feeling, or dynamics, the music is bland and boring. so even though you can not see the emoting of the hornline, it is still done. performance of the pit. same thing. how they strike the keys depends on the sound it makes. if you watch a good pit. or any keyboard player, they do not stand there motionless or emotionless. performance in color guard seems to been seen as a comfortablilty factor. if you can perform and smile (or whatever emotion) and spin, and look comfortable while you do, it makes it look like you are better than a guard who does not show the comfortablilty to emote while spinning. replying to the statement earlier about renegades. "there was very little dancing from the guard. or body under work"... but look how the judges viewed it. i'm not saying it's right or wrong. good or bad, but look at the placement the judges created. lack of body (no triad)= easy/easier. this is how it is judged today or viewed by the judges. look at the higher ranked groups of dca. there is more body under equipment. for example, caballeros 2003 used the triad very frequently, and did it well. got to go back to work.. so i will have to continue another time..
  5. ok.. let me rephrase things. it's not necessarily smiling. posture and presence. which could be smiling, and expression of anger, playful, joy, sad, reflectice, whatnot. it does translate to the stands. maybe not the nose bleed section, but it is visible to the stands. i have watched many shows this season from the top and have been able to see facial expressions in drum corps. many times in shows, i have stared people down in agressive parts of shows in drum corps and got reaction from those people. or made eye contact with people at sad or reflective moments. would not emoting partain to the pit also??? or the hornline?? in this stage of color guard, without emoting or expression or dancing, it would be like a horline and drumline without dynamics. so many visual effects and dramatic moments are built due to a combination of movement and equipment layering from both the color guard and the HORNLINE. i think it funny that we're talking about color guard evolving, and i know it's always good to go back to your roots, that was color guard basics are. they teach people to spin together, and build strength and endurance. when people try to change and further the actual hornline or drumline, it's chaos. no one wants it to change. it was a big deal when dca corps switched to Bb horns. or people started using narration and amps in dci. isn't the question more of when is drum corps going to catch up to the evolution of color guard?
  6. i disagree with this comment made earlier. smiling not only is an expression of the face, just like being angry, but also creates or structures a body positioning, which in turn will show the character in the stands on the feild.
  7. being in the guard, i always went for the guys in the hornline. thought about the drummers, but never did anything about it.
  8. hey bucsbuff.. there are now 3 guys in the indoor guard at cocalico. so, the times are changing. hehe
  9. i prefer a weighted pole. y use more muscle than u have to when ur gonna need it for something else later. plus.. trying to get a double out as an ensemble with unweighted poles is quite ugly!

  11. does anyone have a housing list for allentown weekend?
  12. you would use a 3" x 1/2" caridge bolt in the top and a 2" x 1/2" bolt in the bottom. these bolts are big enough so that only the threaded part of the bolt will be sticking in the pole, and the top will rest on top of the pole. the rubber end caps will hold them on, but be sure to tape them on because THEY WILL FLY OFF AT THE MOST INCONVENIENT TIME if you do not
  13. ahh gotta love mother. i stood behind her in the ending flag ensemble this year.. good times
  14. actually the largest size rifles from george miller that u can get is a 42". they are more middle heavy and are beasts!!!.. and u can not specify a weight. it's.. u get it as it comes. i have found that my kids do better on a 38" rifle. for some reason the 39 is just a little too much.. but the 36's just spin weird.
