  1. I think that both are as hard as you make them. You can play really really complicated, choppy stuff on both snare and bass, it totally depends how hard you push yourself. The difficulty of the bass and snare parts in any line depend on the players, and parts are beefed up or watered down depending on them. I think bass is more fun because its cool to work with other people and put something like a bass ensemble together. You never see a snare emsemble! (but heck, it might be cool) I totally agree that bass is harder to practice by yourself. You either have to know all the parts and be singing them in your head, or make a midi file to play along with or something. In conclusion, tenors are by far the hardest :P
  2. agreed. but hey, why not Southwind? I mean, they are marching an all-but-one rookie snare line... So it would be cool if they were good. haha. I'll shut up now.
  3. Hehe :) But seriously, besides being a girl, I just play. It's all fun, games, and flirting until we are drumming or marching basics, and then it's hardcore. Last year my friend and I were the only ones that made it through some triplet grid variations with drill basics, and it's only because we had focus where other people didn't. B)
  4. Haha... SEE everyone? It works! Josh I WILL marry you IF you buy Capital Sound from the MDBCA so we can march this year... heh.. a little humor
  5. Ummmm how about the option "Be the hot chick you know you are and work it.." Hehe, showing up and totally being the girl works well... all the guys look at you and laugh when you first walk in, and then wanna buy you dinner after the camp. Being a drummer chick shouldn't be that big of a deal.. but I have found that it is, and it totally works to my advantage in auditions.
  6. Evans bass heads= no, I don't think so. Remos get a much better sound. How to describe the difference? Evans seem to have a more watery, weak sound- almost the "tin can bass" effect, while the Remo are more resonant and strong-sounding... capice? I haven't used Evans on snares, but the Remo falams are good sounding and durable for a high school line...
  7. Yeah, can't march Scouts, for biological reasons... Way to be, Peerno. As of Revolution, I did talk to some people who said it might be a worthwhile drive. I am really poor though, and my parents dont support my marching in DCI, so carpooling would be great. I have a car, but splitting gas costs would be "money". I would be happy to get in touch with the MN guy... Also, I have been considering checking out Colts, I hear they have some spots to fill. And a hot cymbal line ;) And I have heard that they treat their kids really well. So.. right now it's most likely Revo, Colts, maybe back to Cap Sound (nooooooo!)... maybe somewhere else? I dunno... thanks for the responses and ideas, Elizabeth
  8. I need HELP! Due to "circumstances", I will not be marching in Madison this year. I need someplace to march! I played 2nd bass in Capital Sound last year, and I am a pretty decent drummer. I have a car and am willing to drive a long distance. I am willing to go D1 but want to make sure I march in a drumline. I live in Menomonie WI which is an hour east of Minneapolis/St. Paul. Where should I try out? My friend and I have been looking at the Colts, Phantom, and Southwind.... I dont want to march a Senior corps or a D3 corps... I've also been told that I should drive down and try out for Revolution... ?????????????????????????????????????????????? I figure most of the people on this site have more experience in the drum corps world than me... What do you think? I'm open to ideas! Thanks, Elizabeth former CS BD #2
  9. DRUMLINE COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE The “drumline commitment to excellence” entails three commitments which all work together towards line excellence: 1. COMMITMENT TO REHEARSAL – Attend all rehearsals. Be there early and ready to go for all rehearsals. Have all the required music memorized for all rehearsals. All instructors should be informed in advance if you plan on missing a rehearsal for any reason. 2. COMMITMENT TO EACH OTHER – Be prepared to listen and adjust what you are playing accordingly and promptly. Work together in a positive manner. Respect each other’s own opinions. Do not pick fights or be a jerk. 3. COMMITMENT TO DISCIPLINE – Be a bad ###. All the time! Thats something we did just within our line....
  10. Have not ever used Savages or seen them being used... What are they like? Haven't used laminated Moores either... but most of those laminated sticks are pretty beefy. Betsy CS BD #2 MHS Center Snare
  11. HAha! yeah! You tap the sticks and its like whoa... are you sure those are a pair? Are you sure it wasnt THESE ones? (tap the sticks) Hmmmmm... nope, they are ALL different... gee... tape this one more? (jk) But Vic Firth isn't perfect with that either.. so I would say that all of the sticks are good enough to play with. Sheesh... EXCEPT those Innovative Perc bass mallets- Yikes! They gave me nightmares! For a week! Yes. Moores are money. Pooles are a no-no. DeLucias are super-green. Betsy CS BD #2 MHS Center Snare
  12. Ah! the Dilema! I had this same problem coming form marching a summer of bass and then jumping into the role as center snare for my high school drumline this last fall... I consulted my snare teacher/idol/drumming buddy, Mr Pat Fitz-Gibbon, aka "Patty-cakes", and he contemplated for a few seconds and then looked at me and said: "8's. Put in your favorite movie and watch it and play 8's the whole time... switch to your right hand every once in awhile to give your left hand a break, but keep that left going as much as possible no matter how much it burns." Well I invited the snares over the next night for a little "Office Space Sectional" and ohhhh man that was the longest that movie has ever been! But it really helped, and I would recommend it! ~~ crazyfish <*)))>< ~~
  13. ANOKA DRUMLINE? ANOKA, MINNESOTA? Thats like... right by where I live... I think we might even do a competition with you guys.... whoa... I am not a big fan of innnovative perc, unless they are for frontline type instruments; those are usually pretty decent But uhhh.... Anoka, huh? WOW thats by Irondale too isn't it? Do you do a winter drumline that is competing in MN this year? You caould see us testing those innovative perc mallets live... hehe Betsy
  14. I say go for the Real Feel 12" double sided... It's got two different surfaces, one with more rebound that is quieter and one that is more like a drumhead and also is louder... Its a great pad. Real Feel = b**bs when it comes to practicing... ~Capital Sound BD #2~ ~MHS Center Snare~ ¡This chick is gonna march snare for Phantom Regiment, you watch!
