  6. Thanks everyone! We will know this weekend if he makes it to the round of 8.
  7. I do wonder if the Orlando show will cut into the attendance at the Atlanta Regional? I know alot of people traveled to Georgia for that show from Florida. Either way its good to get drum corps back in Florida. The fact that they haven't announced the venue is also promising...maybe they are going to move it to a nicer and albeit safer (neighborhood) stadium.
  8. Just posted on DCI.org... Yoo Hoo drum corps is returning to Florida http://www.dci.org/news/view.cfm?news_id=6...c1-acf80402f048
  9. I am hoping some of you will help support my baby in the "Cutest Baby in Tampa Bay" contest or...Baby Idol! The contest started with about 800 babies and is now down to only 8 and my son is one of the finalists. If you are willing to help please go to (Link Removed until the votes are counted) and vote for EMERSON. He is wearing madras shorts and hat. He is a huge drum corps fan and would love your support. If he makes it through to the next round the address will change to......week5 etc... Thank you in advance for your help and wish us luck! In keeping with the spirit of the forum and maintaining relevance to drum corps if Emerson wins I will make a donation to the friends of DCI in the name of Drum Corps Planet and our drum corps family. Thanks for your help! UPDATE: They're counting the votes...We will know Sunday if we made the Final 4...Thanks for voting!
  10. I also voted for you Tom & Amy...Good Luck! I'm also soliciting votes for my son who is in the Sweet 16 for the Cutest Baby in Tampa Bay. If you want to keep the goodwill going please help out another drum corps alum and vote for my son, Emerson. http://www.wmtx.com/pages/babyidol2_week3.html If he makes it on to the next round replace week 3 with week 4 and so on... Thanks and Go Drum Corps Family!!!
  11. You just lost all credibility...Formula 1...Seriously...Has anyone passed anyone this year for the lead? Besides when the team owners call them and tell them to slow down... :)
  12. Great News Report and showing the love for the Glassmen!!!
  13. My understanding is that 6 corps had to be housed in hotels at DCI's expense. I was told the Glassmen were in a Holiday Inn. I dont know any others.
  14. This I believe... The Blue Devils were the better corps on Saturday thus they won. This I believe... George Hashmarks Hopkinson didn't do his corps image or his any favors in Quarterfinals. This I believe... Hoppy doesnt seem to care...remember it's about the performers not you!
  15. Hey...I'm a huge fan of Indy and look forward to the DCI Finals there but it could have been alot worse Saturday night...You could have been mugged like Rusty Wallace of Nascar Fame's son. He was mugged in Indy coming out of a convenience store... Nice Job Indianapolis. Maybe they could clean up the crime a little.
  16. The French perspective...I can see it now...the colorguard could all spin white flags and they could use the amps to tell everyone they surrender.
  17. The GLASSMEN have an amazing staff that are not only great educators on the field - but highly regarded educators in high schools and universities across the country. Many are very active with local and national MENC chapters - even the GLASSMEN themselves are annual participants in the Ohio Music Education Association Conference. With all the activity of our staff between the camp weekends, we just wanted to take a moment to recognize two brass faculty with the corps that have been 'making waves'... Robert W. Smith is one of the most popular and prolific composers of concert band and orchestral literature in America today, and the GLASSMEN are ecstatic to have him as part of the program design team for the fourth consecutive year. This year, Smith announced an exciting new venture for him as the Director of Product Development and exclusive composer for the C. L. Barnhouse Company and its subsidiary, Walking Frog Records. In this role, he will be working with the Barnhouse management in the creation of new products and product lines to enhance the very successful catalogs of both companies. In addition, all of his compositions will be published exclusively by C.L. Barnhouse. "I am honored to be working with...the entire C. L. Barnhouse family," Smith said of the new position. "I look forward to the many years of creative music publishing and production." Lest you think he has moved 'corporate' - rest easy to know that Robert continues to put education first as co-creator of the Expressions Music Curriculum. This comprehensive Pre-K through 12 music program includes Band Expressions, an innovative new approach to teaching music through the band. Smith has also recently returned to teaching as part of the new Music Industry program at Troy University in Troy, AL. His teaching responsibilities are focused in music composition, production, publishing and business. While he will continue with his normal writing, publishing, conducting, clinic and production activities, Smith is very excited about the educational aspect of his career. "The new program at Troy University serves as a wonderful base of operation," he said, "as well as an opportunity to work with great students and colleagues in a very creative environment." Congratulations, Robert! Mark Waymire has spent over a dozen years in the drum and bugle corps activity, and has joined the GLASSMEN brass staff for the 2007 season. As the Associate Director of Bands at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan, he conducts the Symphonic Band, Marching Band and teaches Orchestration, Conducting, Music Education Lab and Band Arranging. Mark will be recognized with an honorary induction the Michigan School Band & Orchestra Association (MSBOA ) in June. He is also a recent recipient of the EMU Holman Center Award for outstanding lecturer at Eastern Michigan University. The program recognizes and rewards leaders who have displayed excellent teaching and learning strategies. "After reviewing the nominations along with faculty and student input," EMU decreed, "the choice for this award was overwhelmingly clear." Waymire has also been awarded an advisory position with The National Commission for the Music Arts in Education, a privately funded organization that promotes music education in our elementary and secondary schools. The GLASSMEN Drum & Bugle Corps is very pleased to announce the addition of Mark Waymire, Andrew Putnam, and Todd Snead to the brass program for the 2007 season. Joining arranger Robert W. Smith and longtime brass guru Frank Williams, Mark, Andrew and Todd bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the GLASSMEN brass program, and hope to continue the great work they have been doing together for the past several years. A longtime veteran of the drum & Bugle corps activity, Mark Waymire currently serves as the Associate Director of Bands at Eastern Michigan University, and prior to that held the position as Director of Instrumental Studies for the Seguin Independent School District in Texas. During his ten years in Seguin, Mark served as an adjunct instructor at Texas Lutheran University, taught applied French horn and marching band techniques, and consulted with various programs throughout Texas. In addition to his prior involvement with the Phantom Regiment, and most recently as the brass caption head for the Madison Scouts, Mark has been an instructor, brass arranger, drill designer and consultant for several state finalist high schools, college bands, WGI guards and indoor drumlines. He has been intensely involved with the pageantry arts activity for many years, and continues to serve as an active judge for BOA, as well as many state and independent marching contests throughout the United States. "Mark is a great musician and quality educator. I look forward to the opportunity to work with him not only in our brass program, but also through our local outreach programs, and our summer ENTERTRAINMENT™ Clinic series," states GLASSMEN Executive Director Brian Hickman. Andrew Putnam is currently the Director of Bands at Whitnall High School in Greenfield Wisconsin where he conducts the Sinfonietta, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, and teaches courses in instrumental studies, music theory and music history. In addition to his classroom duties, Mr. Putnam is a designer and music caption head for the Whitnall Marching Falcons, and served as the brass arranger for Capital Sound from '01-'03. In 2002 he joined the brass staff of the Madison Scouts where he taught the baritone- euphonium section through the 2006 season. In addition to his teaching and drum corps experiences, Mr. Putnam is also an avid arranger, composer and designer for pageantry and concert groups alike. "It's an extreme pleasure and honor to be part of an organization committed to excellence in every aspect," said Putnam. "The opportunity to continue to work with Mark & Todd, to work with the great young men and women of the corps, and to join the great collaborative team of people the corps currently enjoys on staff is truly exciting!" Todd Snead is currently working toward a Ph.D. in Music Education at Georgia State University in Atlanta, where he serves as a Graduate Assistant for the Sound Learning Program. For the past four years, Snead taught on the brass faculty at the Madison Scouts, and has served as a teacher, clinician, and adjudicator in Texas, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Nevada, Arizona, and Georgia. Todd also draws from his experience as a former cast member for Blast, and Education Coordinator for the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra. The Glassmen Brass Staff Robert W.
