  1. HEY brotha darkness! are you doing any ARIZONA shows this year??
  2. Agreed, in comparison I suppose. *edit*
  3. Wow. I agree with the previous posters. I can't believe they wouldn't fight to keep him.. Anthony is a great guy, (And a great former brass instructor!! :) ) He really did a great job, from the transition from Fusion, building up Allegiance to a 70 something member Division III corps (In one year, might I add) and leading them with a heck of a program all the way to finals in Brockton. Great job my friend, and it is always was a pleasure to see you on the tour, even if I was on another team! Cheers!
  4. I agree Ampfan. I applaud and commend the highschool in question for having a drum and bugle corps!!!! wish there were more like ya! :) My issue is with the journalism. How many people read that article and believe Drum Corps is a dead artform now?? How many get that publication or will view that article?? "Owens said the truly impressive thing about the Corps' success is that they defeated 15 other full marching bands. The 78-member NPHS Corps remains the only drum and bugle corps in the entire United States. "I've done extensive research, and can't find any others," Bradley said." That is laughable. You can't tell me that this publication doesn't have an editor. Of course they do, as do all media sources. 2 seconds research will pull up FIRST PAGE results on any search engine of NUMEROUS drum corps.... the editor could have looked at that for 2 seconds and double checked to verify the facts.. It was a case of innacuracy and omission, coupled with shoddy or for that matter, possibly non-existant editing.
  5. Ok, I'm not coming in here to place an argument, just to show my P.O.V. so the show site may have been less than perfect, but I don't think I heard any gunfire.. The people there were not rock stars in any sense, so it could've just been a car misfiring. :) I do remember a number of people coming to their porches in the apartment building we were stretching under, just to see us start our warmups.. they were quiet, and didn't bother us a bit. As far as the "Harassers" are concerned, I was actually quite pleased, listening to them talk and hearing what they had to say... These are just the comments I was able to pick out, but, as we did our "God walk" as Kevin so poignantly put it, I remember someone asking us, "Dont you guys smile?" And one guy walked with us the whole way, just trying to get us to smile back at him. I also remember other comments such as, "Wow, did you see those guys warmup? They're going to win for sure!" Then of course as Mike mentioned earlier, there was the Mother and her Son, who we put on that very special show for... we touched those peoples lives, even if for a moment. So maybe we didn't get to perform, maybe thats not what that night was about.. Regardless, I think that as long as shows like that keep going, we have a chance not only to improve the lives of people in "less than ideal" communities by getting them into healthy activities, but we also have a positive environment for learning, not only educationally, but also socially, and societally. P.s. My commendations to the show sponsor for trying to affect positive change in his own backyard, so to speak
  6. I agree with the last poster. Extra pressure on them is definitely not needed.. They are a new corps, but to think they are not aware of the challenges to come for them is ridiculous. As far as my opinion goes, I had an oppourtunity to spend some time with them last season, and I know they are going to be ready to handle anything that comes their way. They are an outstanding organization, from top to bottom, and that includes the members. Maybe the best, Maybe not... but who cares really? That is up to the judges anyways. Its about the experience, and they provide a great one for Arizona youth.
  7. WHAT HE SAID. Besides the things he mentioned, I, for one, am already that big scary word. MARRIED. Imagine marching with your spouse at home (trying) to pay the bills! (Ducks to avoid flying objects) P.S. seriously though, she's ok with it. She actually marched WITH me in 04! :P
  8. Ok I've decided to start a thread containing all the new, up to date info on the happenings of our corner of this great activity. So, add any and all news about your local corps' happenings here!
  9. ......She's not alumni of the Bandettes.. She marched in the Midshipmen at some shows that the Bandettes were also at, and said she liked the girls' corps, and wanted me to send her some info on the bandettes.. which of course, I did.
  10. Some corps I've been wondering about... What ever happened to General Butler Vagabonds?? Or Legend of Texas? Any info?
  11. I think that at least 2 of the applicants for Division I applied this year, just so their intentions would be clear for '07.... Just speculating. B)
  12. Can anyone on here help me? I'm looking for info about the Midshipmen Drum & Bugle Corps.. any info at all you can provide on them would help. I just met a woman while checking out at the grocery store, who saw my Fusion shirt, which I happened to be wearing.. she asked me If I had heard of the Bandettes, also from Canada, and said she marched in some shows with them back in the 70's when she was doing Midshipmen. She asked me to email her any info I could find on her corps and the Bandettes (Bndettes is easy to find info for, but this other one...???) That's where you guys come in. I know we have almost a vault of knowledge on here between everyone.. especially the older folks.. :) Thanks in advance for any replies!
  13. THE REAL QUESTION: Will, come next season, someone start another "Is Star coming back?" thread.... Maybe I'll do it next year, just to watch everyone groan. heheh Anyways, I think if Star were to come back, they'd be like VK just cause they'd be so darn entertaining. But they'd be absolutely perfect too... with the amount of time they practise their shows... Think of it, Their entire cast of blast (Maybe in DCA?? They're 18-31) fresh with Broadway caliber skills going back to Corps doing one handed cartwheels and backflips playing ridiculous music perfectly..... With soloists riding unicycles.... NAH!
  14. I will agree. Although I have always been a huge fan of corps' like Madison, Blue Devils and Cadets... I would say that the sound production coming from the Regiment this year was HUGE. I wouldn't go so far to say no one else came close, but they were definitely the loudest. Louder=Gooder. Yes, Me done lerned how to spoke REAL gooder like.
  15. This is the most vexxing story EVER! I've been searching for the Holy Grail of Gold Bond for over a decade.....
  16. I wonder if anyone sees what we're doing here. We're just giving people more to think about. If we drop the woodwinds discussion, IT'LL NEVER COME TO PASS!! The more we talk about it, the more it gains merit as a topic of discussion. WOODWINDS SHOULD NOT EVEN BE DISCUSSED. THIS IS DRUM & BUGLE CORPS. DROP IT ALREADY.
  17. AMEN BROTHER. If we continue to allow something, just because 20% of the fanbase (THAT WAS ALREADY THERE BEFORE THE CHANGE) likes it, then we may lose the other 80% who don't like it. Sounds like its just asking for trouble.. doesnt it?
  18. So to play devils advocate, does that mean Simply because there is a fanbase of people who LOVE woodwinds, that drumcorps should be allowed to include them on the field? Amplification is as fundamental a change to this activity as adding woodwinds would be. Take this for example: Fact #1: Drum corps is solely an acoustic activity. Amps ended that because some instruments are now electrically contributing sound, through the use of amplifiers. Fact #2: Drum Corps has unique instrumentation. Electric Guitars would end that. So using your logic, we should add Electric Guitars to Drum Corps because there are people who like them. In other words, a "group of fans" for them. A fanbase for a certain type of sound production/instrumentation DOES NOT justify making fundamental changes to the basis of the activity in general. Just my opinion.
  19. DISCLAIMER: NONE OF THE FOLLOWING OPINIONS ARE MY POSITION ON AMPS. HOWEVER, I FOUND THEM TO BE INTERESTING AND VALID WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF THIS CONVERSATION. SO I AM GOING TO ADD THEM. /DISCLAIMER Arguments Against: Quote: "I've only been to a few drum corps shows, but I understood everything in the shows.. the only thing I couldn't stand was that annoying talking over the show. It isn't acceptable in the stands, why would you allow it on the field??" - END QUOTE Quote: "I understand the desire to use amps and mics, I have done it myself. But after seeing them used in drum corps, and with stadium electrical problems I have experienced, it is my desire to never have them on the field again. Last night I watched the quarter finals and it was horrible to hear the pits overpowering the corps. Also, if you have to explain your show vocally during your performance, your design staff havent done their job. I want the clean power of drum corps UNPLUGGED!" - END QUOTE (This next one especially made me think. I know there are a lot of international kids who are flying out, more and more to the U.S. each summer, to audition for corps of all Divisions!! Would they still become fans and want to march, given all the english being spoken throughout the shows? It certainly cuts down on the comprehension level...) Quote: "Narration also creates a language barrier to other countries, and removes the word International in DCI." - END QUOTE Quote: "Amps have no place on the field. It should be about musicanship and artistry." - END QUOTE These quotes were taken from another website that has to do with the topic of amplification. I'm sure most of you can guess already which website it is. Ok, so this post is one sided. But hey, anyone can feel free to post pro-amps posts on here if they wish, to balance out this post.
  20. THANK YOU ADMINS for putting this article on the front page! It seems someone else liked it as much as I did!
  21. Ok this is the confirmed list of new/returning Div III corps for the '06 season: Bandettes Americanos Hypnotix Marion Glory Cadets Here are the unconfirmed ones: Salina Silver Sabres Strutters Lehigh Valley Knights These corps that are unconfirmed cause I have yet to hear/see any updates in regards to plans for the '06 season. Feel free to correct me on those, (or add any more that you know of) I'd love to be wrong!! I also heard mention of: Pride of Oakland Is this going to be a DCI competing corps? And if so, are they going to Madison? Either way, best of luck to the folks out there. The more the merrier I say, And my heartfelt best wishes to all of these corps and the rest of us in the DII/III activity for the coming season. P.S. it is awesome to see people like Brad from Eklipse doing what they can to keep the activity alive and growing. P.S.S I'd love to volunteer, but I've still got another season to march! :P
