  1. I like the 1985 wizard of oz show, but that might be because I aged out of the Sky Ryders that year..... It was just as good as the 1986 wizard of oz show... the 1985 show placed top 12 in GE but placed 15th overall.... Thanks, Mark Ryan........ WWW.SOUTHERNSILVERSTAR.ORG
  2. History was made on Sunday Feb. 22 in New Orleans with the reunion of all of these corps and no one even covered it.......
  3. Former members of past Louisiana corps will march again and this time together on Sunday, Feb. 22nd in Metairie, Louisiana.. This will be a Mardi Gras Parade.. The group is called Echo's of New Orleans, This group will be tied with the Southern Silver Star and the Cressent City Battleline for this parade.. Former louisiana corps members that will be there are: Bleu Raeders, Stardusters, Southernaires, Expressions, Regiment Militare, Southern Rebels.... There will be members from other corps there as well, such as: Cavaliers, Garfield Cadets, Sky Ryders, Belleville Black Knights, Phantom Regiment, Carolina Crown, Memphis Blues, Knights, Corpvets, Gulf Coast Sound, Southwind and maybe more...... It is going to be a great time and will be a great reunion for many former members.. For more information go to www.southernsilverstar.org....... Thanks, Mark Ryan.. Southern Silver Star
  4. Hope the Sky Ryders come back soon... I think it would be great...
  5. Sky Ryders horn line was a wall of sound.. from 82 on up.. Sky was in and out of the top 12 for years but the corps always had a great show... Sky knew how to put on a show......... Thanks, Mark Ryan.. Sky Ryders 1984 & 1985...... Southern Silver Star- Founder
  6. Southern Silver Star from Metairie, Louisiana still has horn line spots open.. We have a full range of horns, Sopranos, Flugel horn, Mellophone, French Horn, Baritone and Contra Bass... All of our horns are in the key of G and are ready for someone to play..... So come out to one of our rehearsals and have a good time... Go to our website for more information.. www.SouthernSilverStar.org.. Hope to see you soon... Thanks, Mark Ryan
  7. well, it seems to me that kanstul makes the better horn at this time, but back in the 70's it was a Getzen and Olds, them in the 80's it was a DEG and a King and now we are looking at Kanstuls and Kings being the best on the market.. the best way to see how horns hold up is to go on Ebay and look what is for sale and the year it was made and how well it has held up.. look at braces, the valves and the finish of the horn.. this will tell all...... I purchase horns off ebay and it will tell you much about the horns and if there good or not.... more out there, the less likely a good horn, look at bid amounts on the horn, the lower the bid the less likely it is a good horn, this only works on new horns made in the past 4 years or so..... look and find out... Thanks, Mark Ryan.. www.southernsiverstar.org
  8. Well, the years I marched in 1984 & 1985 with Sky Ryders, Daniel Jewett was the corps director.. he stopped being director after the 1985 season... does that ring a bell with you.... I hope it does... I started a corps here in Louisiana called the Southern Silver Star, it is a Sr. corps.. here is our website.. www.SouthernSilverStar.org............. Thanks, Mark Ryan
  9. Gale, Hi... the good cereal thing was a Sky Ryders trademark, in 1984 and 1984 we also had to get the score to get the good stuff, below the score you had bland stuff that had no sugar, but when you got the score, FROOT LOOPS... What a way to get the kids to get the score, it was all for fun... Mark Ryan, Southern Silver Star Sr. Drum & Bugle Corps
  10. A corps that was true to be being a drum corps, The belleville, Il. Black Knight.. This corps had it's good years and it's bad one, but it was a good corps... no matter how big the corps was, this corps always put on a show.. This corps has faded from some peoples minds but it was one of the major players in drum corps years ago... many long to hear the Black Knights again and maybe one day the wonderful corps will rise again to show the drum corps fans what drum corps was all about, "PRIDE".......
  11. Memphis Blues had a short life span, but the corps played tunes like Can't help falling in love, that will be in the minds of many for years to come... No one can forget those orange and blue and white uniforms, the parade scene in each show, wow... I marched with MB3 it's last year in 1983, the corps folded mid season and the last note played by the Memphis Blues was in Birmingham, AL... Memphis Blues we miss you......
  12. Sky Ryders was one of the true corps that had a show that everyone liked to watch, the corps is gone but not forgotten..... the large rainbow, the wizard of oz, sound of music... what a corps, I know because I marched the Sky Ryders in 1984 and 1985.... tap those ruby slippers together and say I want this corps back and this corps might come back from oz someday....
