  1. You'll have to wait a bit for the February Camp thread, but maybe this will appease you until then....... Brigs January Camp Report Thread
  2. The Brigadiers - January Camp Report The Brigadiers enjoyed a successful and productive camp this past weekend in East Syracuse, with all sections in attendance. To read the full report, including a brief video , go to January Camp Report. The corps will hold its next camp February 16-17 at East Syracuse-Minoa High School. Don't miss it!
  3. It's gonna be a loooonng weekend. All the more time to play these incredible charts Wayne Downey, Dave Glyde, and Jim Wunderlich have written for us. OMG!
  4. You know, I start these informative threads, go about my business for a day or so, and you people go completely nuts!!!!! Oh yeah - that's what I like about you all....... Seriously, gonna be a great weekend - as if the excitement from this crew wasn't telling enough! I think Paul mentioned - East Syracuse-Minoa H.S. (Obligatory link included ). See you all there!
  5. No! Distressingly enough, I deleted it - what was I thinking???? Maybe we can get Pete to recreate the moment. Things like that usually aren't as good the second time around (the moment, not the goulash ), but I'm sure Pete can manage something.
  6. Trish and Darrell back again? Now *that* would be fun. If we just start talking about it as reality, they won't have any choice but to march.
  7. Or 6 1/2. Or 10 for Phil...but he's crazy. Every second of it's worth it, though.

And we welcome the Color Guard for its first rehearsal of 2008 – the earliest the Brigs have been together as a full corps in recent memory! The Brigs extend their appreciation to the East Syracuse–Minoa school district which has graciously offered the use of the district’s stellar facilities to the Brigs for our winter camps. We look forward to a successful and continued relationship with the district and are excited to head into 2008 in East Syracuse. In addition to our usual brass and percussion rehearsals, the Color Guard will also hold an open sectional on Sunday, January 13, only. This rehearsal is open to anyone interested in attending, whether you plan to march in 2008, just want an opportunity to spin, or would like a chance to see what the Brigs color guard is like. 9. Yeah, there's a very simple reason I still haul my old crippled body around a football field each summer... four words: Wayne Downey mellophone parts.

  16. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Brigadiers Announce 2008 Design Team Syracuse, NY (October 10, 2007) – The Brigadiers Drum and Bugle Corps is pleased to announce its 2008 design team. The Brigs have assembled a top-notch ensemble of designers who are already hard at work creating a fresh, new program for 2008. The Brigs are thrilled to continue the corps’ long-time association with Brass Arranger Wayne Downey and Battery Arranger David Glyde, both of whom are long-time Brigs arrangers, and who are, of course, also well-known for their work with the twelve-time and reigning DCI World Champion Concord Blue Devils. Downey returns to the corps for his 9th season as the Brass Arranger. Known for his years of achievement as the Music Director of the Blue Devils and distinguished as one of the finest brass teachers/clinicians and arrangers in the world, Wayne will again provide the Brigs his expertise as brass arranger and music consultant. Returning for his 8th year as the arranger for the Brigs’ battery is David Glyde, who will return to his role as sole battery arranger in 2008. In addition to his contributions to the Brigs, David is known for his many achievements as the percussion arranger for the Blue Devils and is also a clinician, endorser, and published composer for the Yamaha Corporation of America. Joining Glyde and Downey in 2008 will be their Blue Devils counterpart, Jim Wunderlich, who will arrange the Brigs’ front ensemble. In addition to his work with the Blue Devils, Jim has also been the front ensemble arranger & instructor for the 2007 WGI PSW gold medalist Mission Viejo High School for the past 16 years, and the five-time WGI Medalist Loara High School (Anaheim, CA) for the past 11 years. He has also been the front ensemble director at the 2007 WGI PIW gold medalist Riverside Community College for the past 4 years. Jim marched in 1989 with the Suncoast Sound Drum & Bugle Corps. He has provided instruction and arrangements for the Velvet Knights, the Seattle Cascades and Esperanza. Finally, he is also the current front ensemble arranger for the Soka Renaissance Vanguard. On the visual side, the Brigs are pleased to welcome back Rick Morey, who will again reprise his role as Program Coordinator and Visual Designer. As the Brigadiers’ visual designer through all of its championship years, Rick has been instrumental in bringing the corps to the highest levels of performance. In addition to his design work, Rick is a past President of the New York Federation of Contest Judges and has also been a clinician in the United States, Canada and Great Britain. Rick was previously the Program Coordinator for Magic of Orlando in 2002 and 2003, Visual Designer for the Colts in 2004, and both Program Coordinator and Visual Designer for the Colts in 2005. Returning for his 10th season as Visual Consultant to the corps is Michael Cesario. Michael is the recognized leader in design for performing and pageantry arts and has been honored with membership in the Drum Corps International Hall of Fame. Michael’s contributions to the drum corps activity are unparalleled and the Brigs are honored to have him provide his design expertise again this season. And finally, in a color guard coup for the ages, Beth Calhoun, Ryan Bronner and Chris Caracillo will direct the design and instruction of the Brigs color guard as Guard Co-Caption Heads. All three have played vital roles in the development and success of the Brigs’ color guard program over the past decade. The trio will join forces in 2008 to create a masterful guard program that will benefit tremendously from their collective talents and wealth of experience in the color guard and drum corps activities. The Brigs will begin its 2008 adventure with an Open House and first camp November 17-18, where we will premier our new multi-key brass line! Additional information concerning times and location will be posted soon on our website at www.brigadiers.com. With roots dating to 1938, The Brigadiers Drum & Bugle Corps was reorganized in 1991 after a nineteen-year absence from competition. 17. It is with great excitement that The Brigadiers announce their 2008 program, "Reflexions." The Corps will begin its 2008 adventure with an Open House and first camp November 17-18. Although our color guard auditions are not until late spring, we invite all who are interested to join us for the open house and learn more about the 2008 corps! Additional information concerning times and location will be posted soon on our website at www.brigadiers.com. Stay tuned for more announcements to follow about our design and instructional staff! THE BRIGADIERS DRUM AND BUGLE CORPS 2008 PROGRAM: “Reflexions: The Music of Samuel R. Hazo” Continuing the Brigs’ tradition of innovation in the all-age activity and moving forward with the corps’ evolution into a new era of performance, the 2008 Brigadiers will present “Reflexions,” an exploration of the dynamic and personal music of Samuel R. Hazo, one of America’s brightest young composers of wind literature. Even with a long tradition of visual innovation and musical risk-taking, the Brigs have never embarked on a more adventurous program. Hallmarked by energy and impact, “Reflexions” is the perfect sign of things to come from the masters of sight and sound. Arranger Wayne Downey will re-imagine several of Hazo’s most stirring compositions, “Sevens,” “Echoes,” and “Ride,” for the modern drum corps, augmenting them with his own unique compositional skills. Hazo’s music is new, fresh, and provocative - with powerful melodies and memorable impacts that promise to thrill DCA audiences as never before. Each piece has a primary focus - building every production into a singular idea while providing the show with a variety of emotions. From the playful homage to Gordon Goodwin and George Gershwin in “Sevens,” to the remembrance of teachers past in “Echoes,” to the sheer exhilaration of a fast car in “Ride,” three distinctive personalities are revealed. Percussion arrangers David Glyde and Jim Wunderlich add even further refinements and energy to Downey’s vision, combining these works into a compelling, contemporary program. Visually, the Corps will explore their “Reflexions” through the realm of reflective surfaces and mediums such as mirrors, water, and chrome, adding depth and richness. But “Flex” has many meanings and its full range of motion and expression are discovered by the guard, with the creative team of Ryan Bronner, Chris Caraccilo and Beth Calhoun having full reign. Rick Morey’s creative, flexible staging and a variety of “images” reflect the myriad moods and excitement of the music, setting the stage for the Brigs to once again generate the standard for quality entertainment in DCA. The 2008 program moves the corps into a new dimension from a musical standpoint, while still retaining the signature jazz influences for which The Brigadiers are known. “Reflexions” promises to present a captivating expedition into new and exciting directions for both The Brigadiers and the all-age drum corps activity.

  19. Dale, the scariest thing about these posts is that I'm fairly sure most of that information resides in your head and the need to consult outside sources was minimal! :) Seriously, great information and an interesting history lesson, indeed. Thanks for taking the time to post it all.
  20. In what will certainly be the first of many exciting announcements regarding the upcoming 2008 season, the Brigadiers are pleased to announce that the corps will be moving to multi-key brass instruments for the 2008 season. We are currently finalizing the arrangements for the purchase of our new line and expect to have the new horns in plenty of time for our Open House and first camp in November (stay tuned for more details regarding dates and times for the first camp). As you all know, undertaking the purchase of a new line is an ambitious endeavor for most any corps. To assist in financing the new line, the Brigs have initiated a sponsorship program. For more information regarding participation in the program, please go to http://www.brigadiers.com/hornsponsorship.php. In conjunction with the purchase of the new line, the Brigs are selling our current line of 3-Valve Dynasty G Bugles. The horns remain in good shape and have served the corps well! We have already had numerous inquiries, but encourage anyone who has an interest in purchasing any of the instruments to contact the Brigs' corps director, Rick Martin, at richardmartin@brigadiers.com, as soon as possible. Finally, the Brigs will also be replacing our front ensemble percussion instruments and are soliciting interest in the purchase of our current equipment. If you or your corps is interested in the purchase of any front ensemble equipment, please contact Rick Martin, as well. More announcements regarding the Brigs' 2008 program, staff, and schedule will be made in the upcoming weeks. We are looking forward to another great year!!!!!
  21. As many of my fellow corps members have already stated in this and other threads, seeing Genevieve get the recognition she so richly deserves was a tremendous moment for the entire Brigadier family. She's truly one of a kind and we've been honored to have her as a part of the Brigs. I'd be remiss, however, if I didn't also point out the fantastic work done by her duet partner in "First Time," Evan Kleve, whose soprano work in the ballad and in the opener was also outstanding. Evan has always stood graciously by, but his consistent, musical solo work is certainly worth its own recognition. The Brigs couldn't be happier to have them both. :) Thanks to everyone for the many kind words about our performance. Finals was an amazing experience for all of us. We look forward to doing it even better next year!
  22. I have 4 tickets available for Finals on Sunday. They are DCA's version of "premium" - Section 306, Row J - which should put you about half way up the upper deck, around the 40. Really good seats in this stadium, I would say. Face value on the tickets is $50 each. I can split them 2 and 2 if you need. Please email me directly if interested - aprilmin@brigadiers.com Thanks!
  23. The Brigs would like to thank everyone who attended the show Saturday night and made it a thoroughly enjoyable and succesful evening! Special thanks to all of the competing corps - each of you gave the fans their money's worth, for sure!!!! We'd also like to extend our endless gratitude to two other groups: first, to the Syracuse Brigadiers Alumni Corps for opening the show and for their continued support of the 2007 Brigadiers. We wouldn't be who we are without all of you who came before us and we are forever grateful for all you have done for us and continue to do. And second, a huge thank you to all of the folks on the Pageant of Drums Committee for again putting together an outstanding show. There are not enough words to thank you all for your dedication and tireless efforts in coordinating all of the endless tasks necessary to make the show a success. Thanks again to all involved and we'll see you in 2008!
