  1. Or go to your local dentist, "I Yankem"????
  2. May I reiterate: That's "appalling"!!! Off with his "head", off with his "head"!!
  3. How about cleaning the inside of the leadpipe where the mouthpiece goes in? Mebbe part of the problem?
  4. That's appalling!!! Off with his head, off with his head!!!!!
  5. First Post on DCP - Welcome!!! And thanks for posting you review. As for Toms River, the Director of the Caballeros Alumni Corps just sent out a memo earlier today to our membership regarding being there for this event, and I believe this to be a GO!!!!
  6. He wouldn't be a chemist who checks Ph now would he?
  7. The shirts are just a diversion, aren't they???!!!
  8. Question: What is their average retainage of membership from year to year, on the run they have going? Seems to me that it would be pretty high for this to be effective.
  9. If your nucleus is small at this time, 15 - 20 brass, you could also consider starting a mini-corps just to get going. Get your organization up and running & you might be able to expand from there. Just a suggestion. ANd good luck with this venture if you proceed, in whatever format you decide.
  10. Played one of those Smith contras back in 1968 with the DP Vanguard. I believe that the Kilties also were using Smith's back then ("Dr.", care to comment?). Mine also had a slide on it with the rotor (the only one of five who had the slide), to crank out A-flats's on that horn. Some of them also had fins on the back (top). Wondering if Brad T's has one with a slide?
  11. Brings up an interesting question regarding local membership. If I recall correctly, several years ago when I looked into a similar situation regarding local individuals belonging to the local Corps back home, the Rosemont Cavaliers I believe had no one from Rosemont and only three individuals from Illinois in the Corps. Everyone else was from out of state. Could this also be the case for the Cadets? Individuals travel from great distances these days to audition, and I would tend to believe that the majority of the Cadets' membership is not local to Allentown? And I would also tend to believe that the percentage of membership of local individuals, relatively speaking, would be higher for the Bucs? Comments, please?
  12. Isn't there a point of diminished returns here, where you get to a point where you may double up on the rehearsal time, but improve slightly? I guess all that I was trying to say is that, one, that if a show is pretty much cleaned up in June when you take the field in July, as Jeff has indicated here, how much more can you improve to the end of the season, i.e. diminished returns? Low '80's to high 90's when DCA's roll around if you're on top lately? And two, as I previously indicated, would the "spreads" then tighten up or possibly even change? And "Captain", I see from your posting that Cos had that "formula" down and I do believe that for the last number of years now, Reading is obviously doing that better than anyone else, all year 'round.
  13. I am wondering what the membership breakdown is, regarding the percentage of college students, and maybe recent college graduates, vs. the remainder of any given Corps participating membership? I would think that it would be pretty high, just guessing here, hence my question. For me, if I was retired and lived on the East coast, I'd jump at the chance to be with the Caballeros Competing Corps, but since I live in the Midwest and I'm still working (no end in sight unfortunately) the answer to doing so is no. I am also wondering if the main reason folks in the age range that you mentioned have too many obligations to deal with, i.e. work, family, etc. that keep them from participating with a full Summer Corps DCA competing corps schedule? IMHO, this is why you don't see as many of them participating as you mentioned??
  14. Seeing double & triple?? You are correct; There's alot of that going on down here on "MM" Kentucky. And now she's got you saying it. There must be something to it. See you in Lewisburg!!!
  15. I understand the dynamics of the "average" season, which can't be extended, with the DCA organizations basically going inactive after the 1st week in September. All I was speculating is what the outcome would be with the additional month to get your presentation championship ready to execute. I would like to think that the outcome would be alot closer than what we've been seeing these past few years, and possibly even a different champion at the end. The seven "P's", which is what Reading has been doing me thinks.
  16. You KNOW she is!!!!!!! Me too. No responses from her, so she must be napping at the moment.
  17. I haven't been around as much as I'd like to, the last year or so, to see and evaluate what's being presented by everyone in contention in 2011, however, IMHO, this has been what has happened over the last 4-5 years with the Caballeros Competing Corps; doing some really intricate and challenging stuff. Reading has always been better prepared when the season opens when I have been around to see all of them, and then the catch up efforts begin. I have loved what the Caballeros Competing Corps has always tried to do since I've been watching them since 2002, and they can't quite get there by the time September rolls around. It would be interesting to see what the outcome whould be if the competition season was one month longer, as to who then would be on top? I am also wondering if it would make a difference to implement a 2-year program to get any of them over the "hump" to win the DCA Championship (i.e. get the music out early)?
