  1. Sure it does...look which two shows made it from the 2000's. Not two YOU would have picked, I would guess. Crown was one of my picks that made it.
  2. You can keep saying it all you want, but that in no way makes it remotely true.
  3. That's what I was going to play, actually..the entire Cadet tri-tom section in 71 went to the Cabs and were going to be the double congas...I even carried them at a Giant's game 1/2-time in Yankee Stadium (yes, pre Giant's Stadium..that's how old I am!)
  4. I wish I could remember who did this, but years ago I remember seeing some corps march even quarters while playing 7/8...every even number measure started on an upbeat, feet-wise....and every other odd number measure the donwbeat was on the other foot. Anyone remember BAC doing their "Unsquare Dance" drum solo in 69? I have this VERY vague idea that they may have marched that way. Sort of like this...each word gets 2 eighth notes... Left Right Left Right Up Up Up Up Right Left Right Left Up Up Up Up Left Right Left Right Up Up Up Up Right Left Right Left Up Up Up Up...etc....
  5. Possibly...not probably...or maybe that many actually liked that show.
  6. After the 71 season, when Garfield fired George Tuthill a good portion of us in the drumline quit to march with the Cabs, where he was also the drum guy. The oldest of us was 19 or so. Most around 18. I think about 6 or 7 of us went over (a lot in those days, percentaqge-wise)...though I shortly rejoined Garfield and played baritone in 72.
  7. Ssshhhhh...that was supposed to kept a secret. :P
  8. How would releasing vote tallies prove that one way or the other?
  9. Folks here in DCP try to use that petition all the time. Since the DCI vote was open to everyone, the fact that Crown 2004 made the list as opposed to dozens of other possible shows at least says something, IMO. Not proof, of course...but IMO cuts off some of the anti-amp argument about how they are such a negative to the 'real' DCI audience member (read as 'we' according to some here).
  10. Hey, I think it's VERY exciting...but then again...it brings ME back to when we played "White Rabbit" in 1970! Now if they could just do a short bit of a Peace Sign drill to it that we did that year...I'd be in heaven! :)
  11. I just hope the video/audio quality of many of the early 70's shows is superior to Anaheim's of last year...it was like watching a video through a fishbowl. Though the BD 76 video WAS a lot better. I like the mixing of decades myself, as I think that to attract a wide enough audience for Regal to want to participate you need "something for everyone".
  12. IMO this is key to the band/corps argument....the sheer amount of rehearsal time available to a div I corps is what makes them so excellent...if you had a band that was magically able to rehearse the same way, they'd be as competitive against the corps.
  13. Yet having NOT seen them you still feel free to rag on them at every moment you can.
  14. Not one new instrument was legalized as a result of amps....so yes, IMO it was a minor change.
  15. Scuse me...but I started marching in 1964 and I think it's a great idea.
  16. Because your 'we' is a tiny insignificant portion of the audience. Those having their 'happy place' includes customers from every generation of drum corps...that's good customer service.
  17. There were lots of folks before your time who were aghast at the idea of the pit...there was just no internet to allow them to kvetch amongst themselves.
  18. Agree on that one...Bucs and Bush both had VERY modern shows last season...as did the Sunrisers. They did not quite have the horses numerically to pull it off, but it was a VERY modern show in design...and fun to watch. Mike
  19. Well, I'm even older school than you...yet I love DCI drum corps of today. :)
  20. Of course...the fans who voted for the classics ended up selecting Crown 04 and Coats 05...guess maybe their overall opinions differ from yours.
  21. Steph, Why not Email DCI and see if they can/will tell you the answer to your good question....and then make sure you tell the rest of us!
  22. Why would they use the brass staff for vocal training? There are techs these days for just about everything...snare, bass, tenor, cymbal, pit, etc....why is it cheating to use a voice specialist to teach voice?
