  1. That would be nice. Derby City wouldn't be as far this fast if it wasn't for the people in MCL and Austin Stars. I'm sure others would help to if asked. That is one of the better sides of DCA.
  2. I agree 100%, and your the type I was talking about. You would like to do it, but you need the money to make the trip. I have no problem trying to make that happen. I would only have a problem with a corps that needs 8000 phone calls begging them to come, Thats not me. That is all we really need, isn't it. If we could have a string of show from Wisconson to Georgia that would be a start. I was at the Rockmart show with MCL last year, had a great time at great show. And that goes the same for the Kilties show, minus all the #### parades we did. I know as soon as Derby City can stand the trip, we will be there.
  3. Not so much hijacked, just a bit off the center of the subject. But thats part of the problem. I mean, a subject comes up about a non NE show, and all the non NE corps do is complain about is that the NE corps won't come. It comes down to this - who gives a crap if they come, people in KY and TN for that matter don't really know who they are anyway. This region is drum corps crazy, but all they really know is DCI. Why is this? Because there aren't ANY DCA shows. And Ed, I would like to think there can be more heavy hitting non NE corps by 2007. I thank you for pointing out what brings the big dogs out, but that is simply - $$$$$ brings them out. I would be more willing to shell out money to a corps that wants to come, but needs the help to make a 2000 mile trip. Especially if that corps is fighting the same battle we are. I wouldn't beg anyone to come, and would be prefectly happy with the corps that are interested and nearby.
  4. Thank you Scott for pointing out what the thread was about. I never said anything about NE corps coming to this show or not coming to this show. It was a simple question about what corps "might" be interested in attending.
  5. Your right, distant touring does run up organizational expenses. But "distant" for who, exactly? It is fairly close to alot of corps. And there is a lack of DCA shows in this area. And I didn't mention the word "super", just large - about as large as Corpsvets show. In other words, some where around 10 corps. Your saying, Its expected for us new corps to travel, and we shouldn't have any shows close to us. There is a fast growing trend of "Middle" american corps, and no DCA shows except to the extreme North and South of us. At this point, my corps will have to do only DCI shows, and only DCA World. And shows and tours don't fold corps, it is poor financial management and lack of interest that folds most corps. And its not like we can force someone to show up, if they want and can do it, then they can do it. I never thought that someone would think that having a show in a new area would be a "bad idea". I thought that growing this activity is what we we're trying to do. I guess I was wrong, or I guess change can only happen when 6 or 7 of the open class finalists are from the west and mid-west.
  6. This has come up several times, in a couple different threads. But in all seriousness, if there were to be a large Mid-America show in Louisville, KY in August 2007 , who would be interested?
  7. Then, can I assume you are not going to the mini corps competition this year, since your boycotting everything Star.
  8. First off Ed, your not allowed to say STAR Secondly, an "all star" cast will be there. Breathe Dah... ^0^
  9. Yes it would. And its good to see you on here.
  10. Well you are free to move back to Kentucky now, I'm sure we can find a spot for you somewhere.
  11. Yes we did,I held off releasing the corps until somethings where in place. I would like to say that Brent was a great help in getting us on the fast track.
  12. Thanks Vic, I'm sure I will be taking you up on this at some point. I surely will. I might just make that a annual event. Now, If only Churchill Downs would let me do the "call to post" for the derby on a contra!
  13. Congrats Brent Derby City is right behind you too. Inc. on 3/1 I think 07 will be an interesting year.
  14. Why does it need to be in Nashville? But as long as I don't have to go to Austin. b**bs
  15. Thanks. And thats a good idea adding the snail mail address, I will talk the our "king of media" about that. We do have a lot more info to add as soon as we can.
  16. Greetings from Louisville, KY! I am proud to announce the formation of the Derby City Knights, a new drum and bugle corps based in Louisville, KY. The Derby City Knights will begin rehearsals in November 2006. We will compete for the first time in the summer of 2007 in the Drum Corps Associates Class A Division. The goals of this corps is to "push the envelope" of the drum corps activity, to develop musical excellence among its members, and to motivate and challenge each member to attain their personal best, and then reach beyond. Please visit our website for more information please visit our website. www.derbycityknights.com
  17. I miss you guys too. I will most likely make an appearance in Feb. or March just to visit. Did someone say SUSHI!?
  18. In mid 2004, I found a super corps pak for Star 1992, which included the quarters, semi, finals and high cam finals, on eBay. While I don't know what the original costs for this VHS was, it cost me $170 to get it. It was the only way for me to get the high cam angle of that show.
  19. We didn't have 16 in Dekalb, in fact we didn't have a full line for 80% of that summer.
  20. Yes, thank you for posting those pics. You even got a good shot of me. Thanks again.
  21. I have found, that generally, that the people who think they never have a problem with sound or blending or the people that stick out in a hornline. Most likely to busy arguing then to listen to themselves. If we could all be so perfect to never sound and quality issues. The 1992 Star contra line had serious blending issues in the early season. Jim Mason ordered 16 UMI Helleburg mouthpieces for us. Blending problems went away immediatly after the mouthpieces arrived. In fact, I haven't play anything but a Helleburg since.
  22. I have never heard about the playablilty after adding the third valve. However, a contra at MCL is about ready to. Make sure you tell Kanstul you need the parts in SILVER because they will send you chrome. But, since I played the K-90 as a 2v'er, I don't think I would mess with it. Its truly the greatest contra ever made.
