  1. Yes but in the words of a great American.... "Political Correctness is about turning a blind eye to painful reality because your comfortable feelings are more important to you than saving lives and providing quality of life to people who work their ### off to be productive and are a benefit to this great American Dream... The way that you eliminate bad and ugly is either through activism and policy making that never tolerates evil -- instead of the liberal politically correct policy of accepting evil and accepting other points of views that destroy lives. We the thoughtful, productive people of American have got to take our freedom back.I don't care about appearing compassionate... ... I have the right not to be tolerant of others because they are different, weird or make me mad... ..This is my life to live, and not necessarily up to others expectations. I will not be frowned upon or be looked down upon or be made to keep silent because I have these beliefs and opinions. I thought this country allowed me that right. I will not conform or compromise just to keep from hurting somebody's feelings. " "Are you part of the problem or part of the answer? 2. or we can keep lowering our standards so as to not offend anyone always seeking out the least common denominator instead of expecting the most from a person. People say it's not fair but life isn't fair ...as for the human condition as a country we have slowly moved away from absolutes ..like right and wrong and we as a coun try are going to pay for it someday ..there is right and there is wrong (sorry this is kind of off the topic but it's this kind of thin king that scares the pajesus out of me) the more we cloud the area between right and wrong the further we stary from the principles that this country was built on....gay marriage ..(oxymoron) is wrong ...I won't go into alkl of the social issues one at a time ...i am not a religious right bible thumper so you can put that label away ...i am just a non practicing 40's ish Catholic who thinks we need to stop appologizing for people and start holding them accountable...okay back to our show !
  3. i posted some very short very legal video clips of OC and BDB and the scades on my website www.drumlineorgy.com scroll to the bottom and the buttons are on the left ...FEEL THE POWER!!!
  4. I KNOW THE BDB CLIP THAT YOU ARE REFERRING TO IS RENDERING NOW i PRODIUCED THE WRONG CLIP ..YOU CAN SEE THE 8-10 YR OLD CHILD (WHO WAS REALLY GOOD BTW) IN THE FRONT OF THE CORPS NEXT TO THE PIT IN SOME SPOTS OF THE REAL CLIP As for what Mr. Peashy of the Scades was saying ...i have to agree and I think I said in my review that the horns section which is in the clip that just finished going up seconds ago ...really showed up to play and i belive this clip ...while not doing justice to being in fron t of all that power ...at least showed (me for one) that we have some great horn players out here in the PNW...i just didnt like the narration or the set but i did not have a problem with the bright costumes ..heck look at my website I love bright colors
  5. I saw both shows and there was not a 12 point difference in performances as far as I could tell ...hard to see anything in Woodburn with all 12 rows of bleachers to use to get on top of a show! but a different story in Hillsboro Stadium ...home of the Killer Acoustics! OC has new uni's , a huge Division 1 sized horn section (8-10 contras anyone?) Great confidant attitude the only thing they left in EDivision 3 was their Drums ....they must have all gone to different camps....that will be their boat anchor this season ...they have great techs but they haven't gotten any better than when I saw them practice two months ago ....they will be cleen mean and green in august ...lets just hope they either get together on some drum parts or get out their can and throw some water on some very very good beats!
  6. That kind of politically correct thinking is what history will show us was the demise of our culture 50 -100 years from now it wasn't a personal dig ...he didn't like the narration or the narrator ...if everyone tip toes around worrying about hurting someones feelings it does the kid no good and it does seattle no good ...I agree with his summation of it after sitting throughn the scades show in Hillsboro the night before I almost wanted to put an ad in the post inteligencer (or whatever it's called) warning everyone ...I hate all narration unless it's to say "Seattle you may take the field for finals compeition" I love the scades and I was glad to see that Portland (defending div 3 world champions) showed up this year with new uniforms, a new attitude , a new awesome horn section that blew my skirt up a few timesbut who unfortunately left their drums back in division 3 ---yuck! all in all it's not the kids fault he isn't a narrator ..#### thats why he's in the pit because he's a good pit player. Its no shame to him that he can't narrate ...he wasn't brought in to narrate !! and thats what makes it not personal
  7. Always kind of fun to be one of the first stops of the season ...although it's more fun when you have BD and SCV come to town...too bad they would have enjoyed finally having a perfect drum corps venue like Hillsboro stadium ...lots and lots of people and OMG the accoustics were great! THe Fever was up first and did some nice work ...equipment problems plagued the pit with parts of mallets flying around everywhere but the where they were supposed toi go. This group had the standard problems most div 3 corps always seem to have ...there were alot of free agents on the field still and they will need some touring to bring it all together watched their drums warm up ...not a whole lot happening there ...one or two exceptions ..but in as much as these guys were a late add to the show and needed to find their legs their horns sounded good and with a little more time together they should score better. but thus far I don't have the fever! I have a hard time ever getting the fever when the drum are worn tilted ...yuck. I am not one to notice all of the idiosyncracies of the color guard but you couldn't help but be impressed and you would certainly agree that One of the high points of the BDB show was seeing a kid who could not have been older than 8-10 (he looked like he was about 1/2 the size of the rest of the guard) dancing and tossing around a rifle that was as big as he was with the dexterity of a pro he was unbelievable ! and i am sure that we will see him for along time to come what with at least 11-12 yrs until he ages out . He has to come close to setting a record for the youngest member ever of a div 1 or 2 corp I am going to clump BDB and SCV Cadets together...on my score card they were only a couple of points apart with BDB the clear winner that night. Why? BDB has got the drums I will freely admit to being a drumline junkie and I know that what the crowd wants to see are the drum features. Thats what BDB had ...I couldn't get past the matched grip technique of SCV. Both corps blew our hair back with their horns ...wow! in that stadium there was the sound of the horns that was so thick you could cut it with a knife ...Both shows left me a bit cold with the "oh yeah great show" feeling instead of the "WOW! WHAT A GREAT SHOW FEELING" no shortage of people willing to be in the color guard for either corp great costumes great sound very well rec'd by the crowd but that night BDB had the drums by a significant margin and could have played with anyone. In fact they weren't just playing with anyone they were playing with the Division 3 world champion Crusaders on their home turf in fornt of their home crowd. This years now Division 2 Crusaders I had seen practice a few times and I felt really confidant that if Seattle showed up[ with the same level of preparation as last year in Woodburn that they were going to be embarrassed by their neighbors to the south. The Crusaders have alot more than new un iforms going for them this year ...Horns !! aned alot of them wow! when they did the classic drum corp move of playing softly with their backs to us and then turning around at once and letting us really have it my hair stood straight up with glee! great music selection in fact i would say as music goes it was about the only shopw whose music I could really get my arms around . What the Crusdaers didn't bring to Division 2 with them unfortunately was their drums ...as wow as their horns are good their drums were as big a wow bad! It's one thing to have a guy one the end who ticks once in a while but there were a few times that the snares were playing different songs ...didn't these guys show up to camp? they have a long road to hoe to get back east and hopefully with time they will get it together and start to gel otherwise its going to be along bus ride They haven't gotten one chop better than when i saw them almost 2 months ago...time to get out the water and water down some really fantastic beats in the name of scoring. There is a whole new attitude among the members and no longer did they look like anything but the 04 div 3 champs that they are. They are also hurting in the color guard dept whiuch will ost them points ..they aren't bad they just aren't very many Seattle must have heard that Portland was going to start being a factor to contend with because they sounded and looked as good for this point in the year as I have ever seen them certainly a whole lot better than last years dissappointing group the drums played well together with the exception of the far rt side of the snare line who couldn't adjust to the phasing in the stadium or something musically they sounded great good horns with a big big sound but they lost to BDB on my score card in all areas ...their show included some large tubular circles (think giant hula hoops) triables and squares which they incorparated well into the show but I never got the feeling that they added that much or were ever necessary ...my only lingering thoughts were of the task of putting them together and taking them apart a hundred times between now and mid august. The narration was an abortion ...I don't like people talking during a movie while I am, trying to listen to the final part of it any more than I like having to tolerate a narration through all of the best horn parts by a narrator who isnt one! Lose the narration put it in the program and let me read it myself ...the guard uni's were certainly bright and the airplane kites buzzing around didn't add what I was hoping it would and in fact doesnt work the scades need to clean and jerk! Phanton Regiment also brought their horns with them and if anyone was im pressed with the quality of the horns and the acoustics up to that point they really had their skirts blown up by the regiment. wow! I have never liked all of the tilting and posing that PR does in their shows nor do I think that deep knee bends constitute marching and while I have always thought of PR as being Horn heavy (especially after the 03 show ..unreal!) why would you have as good a drumline as they have and not turn them loose on the crowd at least for a few measures up front ..they spent the entire show rotating back and forth in the back and on both sides. I noticed that they have picked up at least two defectors from the snare line of the crossmen of two guys who had very very good chops two years ago when I ranked the Crossmens snare line second only to BD that year. They had had enough of being the "people's Champion's" and the Judge's doormat and decided to trade up a few notches only to drum in almost total obscurity in the back half of the field. Apparently someone else must have noticed because I heard a very loud "GO BONES" yelled out just before they started their show ...wouldn't thoise two have freeked out if Bones had come over the fence there like he likes to do in allentown? What can I say Phantom sounded great and looked great with some cleaning they will be top 6 this year but they will have the same problem that the cavaliers had in 03 ...a show and music that isn't ####ty or not well thought out ...but a show and music that just seems very forgettable. It's not a championship show and no amount of cleaning will make it one. Thier color guard also did a great job ..looked great ...performed great (I predict that phantom will score up to the 90-92 range this year and finish 6th ...maybe a drum feature with all of the horses in the drumline would move them up from there. el rey
  8. b**bs HERE IS A REPRINT OF MY REVIEW FROM RAMD GOOD TO SEE SO MANY INTERESTED OREGONIANS....HI GOLD SMITH! I Was lucky enough to see BD and SCV and Seattle in both Woodburn and Kelso Washington. The BD snare and Quads line only switched out and replaced 3 people this past year due to age. Do you think those guys sounded good and clean? Yes they did! Someone has spent alot of time working with the snare line on visuals already and they had them al. I don't know if Ive ever heard a quad line sound this tight and clean at this point in the season man were they on with more visuals than they ended the season on last year musically they weren't quite an 80 plus corp yet but the new show has all the right elements they need to repeat: Called "The Summertime Train Blues Mix" you were to get on the train with BD and the ghoats of Blues musicioans past you got Gershwins Summertime and others as the train moved you from Missipssippi to Kansas City and Memphis and finally Chicago getting a little flavor of that cities blues from each stop ...great soprano parts that only dogs and cats can hear and the awesome drumline that I think is wekll enough written to finally get these guys the high percussion that the last few years just wasn't to be. If anyone wants Ive got a video of the whole show (sorry dci) as well as some parking lot film that shows the drums up close and personal~! SCV has a good show and as always it sounded drum heavy ...and I like drums ! but these guys ticked standing still in the parking lot however their show which gopt them good solid scores in the high seventies at both stops was great. Their show was called ATTRACTION: The Music of Scheherazade from Koraskov's Scheherazade. (In case you don't know the music or the story it is about a jealous Sultan who executes his ever changing stable of wives when he tires of them...he gets put under a spell by the executioners daughter who weaves a fantastic set of intricate stories to maintain the Sultans interest through the "One Thousand and One Nights" upon which he removes her appointment with the executioner) great music good show very gray! they just need more polish than they have and alot more polish to challenge for the top 3. Seattle has a good show "Nature's Confession" with the music taking you thu all four seasons and is very indicative of what life in Seattle is like throughout the year Seattle 's drumline was ridiculously dirty (snares and quads..mostly snares) their bass line was not as good as the division three Portland Crusaders (great bass line Portland!) Seattles strenght this year appears to be their horns WOW! very powerful and very raw in spots can't wait to see them later in the season... The Portland Crusdaers were good! I mean not BD/Cavies good but I predict that they will be in the hunt in Division 3 this year during the finals...finally! Thier show was called something like "Metro Metal" with the corp testing the characteristics of three different metals it needs some serious polish but for the first time I can say that they have the bodies and talent in place to and actually have something to polish. All in all it's easy for you east coasters to sit back and debate "oh will it be the Cavies or the Cadets this year" (and for my money I would rather watch "the peoples champions" the Crossmen any day ....GO BONES!!) but don't forget while we may not have alot of Corps out west here ...but we make up for it in quality!! ... and wev'e got the Iron to show for it... Don't start giving away the title until the West Coast weighs into the decision because who ever wins the title this year you can bet their going to have to go through Concord to get it!.............Roger
