  1. Kirkwood was 69 -- two months older than my dad. Here are a couple of links to the obituary with information on the memorial service. http://obits.pennlive.com/obituaries/pennlive/obituary.aspx?page=lifestory&pid=155504018 http://obit.hooverfuneralhomes.com/obit_display.cgi?id=1022526
  2. Wolcott fits the description. Sunday afternoon show in the middle of the season.
  3. The more I listen to the new disc, the more I like it. That was a good show in '86. I saw them in DC on that tour, too. I remember standing in line for tickets at some mattress place with a ticketmaster in Glen Burnie or somewhere. I wonder if anyone even does that anymore -- so much easier online. Hey, getting old beats the alternative...
  4. Hey guys, I've been lurking for a while. Still fun to hear stories from the old days. Sounds like the Serenade was another good show. Anyone going to see Rush this summer? I just got the new disc in the mail and it seems pretty good. I'm headed 3.5 hours up the road to Kansas City to see them in August.
  5. Hey Walt. Say hello to your brother for me -- it's been 21 years since I marched next to him (or two spots away, I can't remember)...
  6. I'll see if I can figure out a way to get it from my dvr to youtube. It's only a couple of seconds...
  7. I was watching a documentary about the NY Cosmos on ESPN. About an hour into the show, they panned past the Skyliners on the side of the field getting ready to perform. Sometime in 1975-76-77. Had to rewind and slo-mo a few times. Brought back memories of playing at a Cosmos game in 1984. The crowd didn't seem to be interested in the performance, but I assume it was a paid gig... Anyone have any good stories about playing at pro sports events?
  8. So it's Memorial Day and we grilled some hot dogs. Reminded me of a sort of Westshoremen related story. 1997 after the Red Land (or Red Lion?) DCA show, I'm standing in line at a convenience store behind some guys in Westshoremen jackets. One guy orders a hot dog with kraut and mustard. Then he says the two words that forever changed the way I order a hot dog: MUSTARD FIRST. So simple, yet so powerful. No more mustard everywhere...
  9. PA liquor laws are certainly screwed up. There's a guy living somewhere in central PA who talks about that on his blog sometimes. Jaboobie and Two Hard Boiled Eggs is the name of the blog. It can be a pretty entertaining blog. We live in Benton County, AR, which is a dry county. But all that means is that there are no liquor stores. Private clubs are allowed to sell alcohol by the drink and almost every restaurant is a "private club." Some of the restaurants actually make you fill out a form and give you a membership card. Others just ask you to sign your name in a book when you get there. Moving here from Wisconsin was a shock. There, you can get beer, wine & liquor in grocery stores, drugstores, at the mall, etc. Here you need to make a trip to the next county. We make the 20-mile drive north to a good liquor store in Missouri to stock up occasionally. The shocking part is when you realize your bill is going to be a couple hundred bucks and you start to ask yourself if you've got a problem! Good thing it's not a weekly or monthly trip... Thank goodness for my inlaws visiting from Myerstown... they brought us a case of Lager.
  10. Yeah, I guess if you count '88 as 1/2, but it's still an official 1st place. They tied Sun in '88 and would have tied in '89, but tie breakers were put in after '88. They also tied Reading for fifth place in '83, so that's three-ish. So, El Rodeo has expanded... We used to go to the one in Colonial Park. Lot's of good Mexican places here in NW Arkansas, but we don't get out as often as we'd like. Oldest son has a peanut allergy, so it's kind of a pain.
