  1. Your opinion matters but so does everyone else's. That's why it's called a forum. Own up to your opinion but at the end... you're just another fan boy who looks a group like BD and knit picks at why they keep winning when in fact you're just missing the main point... THEY'RE JUST GOOD.
  2. Then do it. Till then... don't assume the show's content is elementary to the abilities of the members.
  3. So by looking at the program (at a show or Fan Network), you're ASSUMING the show is easy. Put on a uniform and march the ####### show, then you can come back on DCP and tell us... Otherwise, sit back down.
  4. to each his own. They both kick ### no matter happens in their own rehearsals.
  5. You know all these post about "Judge friendly", "West Coast inflation", etc are all a bunch of bull because they're all just excuses to justify why one corps is over another corps. Reasons why someone is scoring .10 over someone else. Blah blah blah. It boils down to design, staff and talent. The entertainment value. the show's potential impact and how it's delivered no matter how accessible OR unaccessible the show is the fans. "the Blue Devils, The Cavaliers, The Cadets, and recently Phantom Regiment." <--- are the ones than can sell the heck out of their program. You can feel the confidence when you watch these corps. When you watch them rehearse, the staff treats the members with respect like the job they need to do in order to be on the top, will be done. In the bottom echelon of corps, it's like pulling teeth sometimes in order to get them to understand corrections or changes. No matter what your taste is, the judges will award points to the corps that can throw it down on the field. Our job as fans is to enjoy it. And if you're expecting corps to deliver the shows they've been known for over the last 10 or 20 years, then you're just being selfish to your taste. Stop being so over analytical. Grab your beer at the parking lot. Eat your nachos. Chill and enjoy the ride.
  6. I'm sorry but I work as a web designer too so if DCI is going to offer these kinds of services to the demanding and paying fans, they better step up. Regardless of their size in staff. If they can't handle it, hire someone who can get it done. So many excuses!
  7. I got chills for a good hot minute. After I woke up on minute 7:00. I love how the show is so classy but it also feels like I've heard it a million times before.
  8. Yeah I'll have to agree with you about tonight's show. SCV just didn't have the magic they usually have and I love SCV whether they get 8th or 1st. People were groaning around me when Simple gifts came for the first time. Then the horn hits came and then we were all "Oh ok... something's happening". The company front was just Ahhhh. The guard though... REALLY??? I studied Graham technique in college and what the hell was that SCV? Martha was a ferocious beast and that material was kinda lack-luster. Costumes are like curtains. Ugh... simplify that thing. I was so excited to see THIS show. 1930 was good ole BD stuff. Still hearing the same phrases over and over again from past years though so blah to that. Intro is killer!! The guard will be AMAZING after the cleaning. Cool stuff with the chairs but it needs clarity on it's role for the show vs being just another gimmicky prop like the poles. I hope BD solidifies the character of the (1930) show or else it'll fall under "Risking absurdity in the 1930s".
  9. And a plane flew buy!! (same for BC) what's with that?? Boooo
  10. I was in Thearter 21 at the Irvine. Nice theater (since it's like 5 min. from my house). Couple of annoying guard people in the front section. Highlight of the evening - The Cavie's comment to J. Allen "I'll show you later". 2nd highlight of the evening - J. Allen's "I'm out of breath" after BD's show - I think the Cavies showed her!! lol. Show Comments: Cavies' show was sick! So energized. I thought the spread would of been bigger because I didn't think BD was locked-on last night. I think BD will step it up tonight. I thought BD's guard should of taken their caption. Thursday - 20.... Friday... 30!!! lol J/K <--- but then again it's BD's hornline. I liked The Cadets' show... kinda un-Cadets but you gotta give em props for trying a different type of show. I think the design could of been spiced up - I found it kinda nice/safe for rock music. SCV show was nice... I still see a lot of dirt in their feet. Drumline is phenomenal! I love their guard. Ending is ehh... That's just me. Phantom - thought they did a nice job. Just didn't feel the intimacy and sauciness of tango. Singing/narrating - Ayyyyyyy <--- enough said!! I liked Bluecoats show... very entertaining. Madison was ehh. They're trying but it didn't come across. I love Xmens' opener and ballad. The end lost some steam. Glassmen - I get their show because I'm familiar with Martha Graham's work. I like it. Just needs more umph!! Martha is an intense dancer - didn't project from the corps. Blue knights was nice! I walked into their show (because I don't get off of work till 5 <--- Booooo) and I thought they were amazing. Didn't see the rest - soorrryy! Nice year of competition overall!! Very excited about Saturday!! Thank you to all the young adults who gave their all out there!!
  11. It comes down to who performs their show to its maximum. They have different styles. Judges are probably awarding points to who sells the total package the best. SCV may have that best design on their hands but if they can't follow through, then nothing will happen. BD's talent is what's putting them on top. They have a cool concept but their book isn't as difficult. They might change sets here and there... change impact points and volume... but who knows the staff has planned in the next couple of days leading into finals. My personal thoughts: BD - 1) Love the ending!! It's perfect. Ask yourself... How would a locamotive stop? Loud?? Fast?? Come to a screaching halt and crash?? Come on!! BD's staff knows better. 2) The corps can march!! - I'm sorry but since 94' (Todd Ryan - you are god!) they have had some of the best marching programs out there. And it not just the uniforms!! Their posture, alignment and pulse is impeccable. 3) the sound they put out there is pure BD - Just like Cav., PR, Cadets and SCV have theirs - Fans have to value the fact that each of them have a distinct voice. SCV - 1) I have to say that their guard is one of the best programs they have ever put together. They just jumped out of Najinski's ballet and recreated it on the field. I was hooked!! 2) Horn sound is beautiful - you can appreciate their sensativity to reknown classic. 3) They have an awesome drum book with an awesome drumline playing it. The only thing I find kinda upsetting at shows is when people "booo"s if a certian corps doesn't win. I don't get it!! I'm saying it's everyone or particular area but I hear it. All kids work so hard to bring entertainment to new level. March for hours in a day. Travel miles and miles to different locations and that's what they get?? Their heart and commitment come above what type of music they are performing... their style of marching... their uniform choice... or their final score. So I wish those who "Booo" would stop treating it as a professional sporting event gone wrong because almost all of us know what each of them go through. M BD - 1995 VK - 1993
  12. Great review. Real honest!! especially on the technical stand point of everything. I totally agree that both these corps do their job well... I think most people judge the two based on their taste and not for what they are... two totally different approaches to drum corp entertainment.
