  1. St. Peters was my first viewing of Cadets this year. They were pretty much 'on' the entire show. The 'new' opener reminds me a lot of last year's show. Personally, I don't like the vocalist and some of the narration, but it was a pretty entertaining show. And those kids are talented! Heading to Cookeville on Friday to see the top 8. We'll see how they stack up. Van
  2. I just got done watching the 1988 BD show (saw it live, and that is still one of my favorite endings to a show). Who were the sop soloists at the end of the show as the corps marched off the field? Are any of them involved (staff, judges, etc) in the activity? Van
  3. Top 10 favorites in no particular order off the top of my head (answers will probably change if asked later): 1994 BD (My Spanish Heart) 1988 SCV (1st Phantom of the Opera) 2000 Cadets (Disney Millenium) 1986 BD (Channel One) 1993 Glassmen (the David Arkenstone show) 1984 Suncoast Sound (Vietnam show) 1991 Star of Indiana (Roman Images) 1988 Velvet Knights (the second Magical Mystery Tour - that show was hilarious) 1988 BD (the blue and grey Devils) 1994 BK (Trittico -- loved the really balanced horn line that year) Van
  4. As far as I know, no one has done a complete show on it. Corps have done "Seasons of Love" (Crown comes to mind), but no one has done a show based on the musical/movie. Van
  5. I would love to see one of the top 6 (probably SCV) do Morton Gould's "Jericho Rhapsody". I would also like to see a corps do an entire show based on the music from "Rent". Van
  6. I've only seen drum corps live for 22 years, so I can't go back beyond that for shows I've seen live. Here are some of my favs 1994 -- Hands down my favorite BD show. The unifying theme of the heart all the way thru, the great soloists, the awesome guard. 1986 -- Just an overall great show. 1997 -- Casablanca worked wonders. That rotating box in the opener was awesome! "Night In Tunisia" was the tune of the summer for me. 1988 -- Didn't think they would end up 3rd (2nd maybe, but that's another thread). All of the tunes were wonderful. I've attempted to play the big band version of "Old Black Magic" that they played that year -- tough! Loved "Goodbye Yesterday". And the false ending and the sops at the end as the corps went off field was phenomenal. 1990 -- Knew one of the soloists from the Tommy show, so I was always dug that show. 1992 -- "When a Man Loves a Woman" -- need I say more? 7. I agree. Nothing was worse than last year at semi-finals when Cadets had such a huge margin. There was no suspense at finals (other than the score). I really don't care who wins a show -- I just want to be entertained. At the same time, I shouldn't go into shows from mid-July onward where there is one corps sooooo far ahead (5+ points) of their closest competition (this scenario partially explains why I didn't attend a local show for the first time in over 15 years. That and I had already seen 4 of the 5 corps this season). This gets into a whole other issue of scheduling, but I'll save that for another day. :) Van
  8. Off the top of my head... BD 94, BD 86, Cadets 2000. Van
  9. Okay. Starting the hotel search. Saw many hotels suggested on the Tennessee Tech web site. Anyone w/knowledge of the area know anything about the area and able to offer suggestions of hotels (closest to stadium)? Van
  10. Yes! 99 Blue Knights was my favorite horn line that season. Very well balanced! Van
  11. Haven't been to San Antonio, but Indianapolis is horrible. I went to shows there in consecutive years, and I won't go back. In the first year, I had seats in the upper level right on the 50, but the sound was horrible. The next year, I had seats on the 30 in the lower level... not much better. I've heard that San Antonio is much better, but haven't been able to experience it. Van
