  1. Hey y'all. Tom and I have been working on this new Myspace page for the Thunderbirds. We will post the updates on there as well as what Gary puts up here. It is still a work in progress but we have lots of photos and we are tracking down video to put up there too. Come visit us at www.myspace.com/eriethunderbirds We are also asking anyone who may have old photos or for that matter any newer photos to email them to us at tomandshellyd@yahoo.com so we can continue to build up the photo albums. We are really in need of any Meadville Thunderbird pics that anyone can help us get ahold of. Have a GREAT day!!!!!!!!! See y'all Sunday! Thunderbirds MySpace
  2. I just saw the plea for help and sat here for a few minutes trying to remember who made my husbands horn. (I don't play one so I couldn't even think of any brands of horns and pulled his bugle out to see what it was) then I searched Kanstul and grabbed these photos. (my husband sold his trumpet on E-Bay a few years ago so I couldn't take my own pics here at the house) Since I don't play a horn...I couldn't tell the difference until they were played. I never really payed that much attention. I prefer the sound of a bugle over a trumpet and that is about all I knew. So, if you say that one looks like a mongrel and one like a mercedes I would have to take your word on that. I still couldn't pick one from the other in a line up. LOL
  3. OK, here are the pictures of the parts...Now you can go to the site and research the rest... BUGLE TRUMPET My work is done here ...Going to bed now.
  4. Went to the Kanstul web site and took these pics from there ...Maybe these will help? BUGLE TRUMPET If you go to the site they also have parts lists for them both and show each instrument broken down piece by piece. Oh hell give me a minute... I can probably get that on here for you too.
  5. The Quote above could not have put it any better. With regards to the Athletic part of it I have seen this first hand. With BMX you are all representing the city you come from as a group, you help each other during practices, you encourage each other too, BUT ont the gate you HAVE NO FRIENDS! After the race everything goes back to normal and everyone is buddy buddy again. In soccer my kids play AGAINST kids for school that they played WITH for most of their lives. So they get to the games and trash talk each other, mess with each others heads and play for BLOOD, BUT after the game they walk off the field talking, joking and compairing the physical damage the caused each other. IT'S LIFE! When it comes to Drum Corps, my father, whom many of you know, played with LOTS of corps. He also made life long frinds with many of the members. If anyone didn't like that he left the corps and held a grudge against him it was their own fault for feeling this way. Sometimes it is just time to move on. I know Joe is still young blood and maybe he needs to sit back and look at all aspects of life and see that this is a time old tradition. I showed my 15 year old son this and he laughed so hard he couldn't breath. His exact quote was ..."when you are competeing in something you HAVE NO FRIENDS no matter what it is you are competing for until it's over. Then who cares what happened during the competition and you are still friends." Same thing goes for Drum Corps. When it is all said and done there will be gripes and moans from some but at the PARTY after the show you are all comrades with the same interest and life goes on. The trash talk is just a psycological game. BUck up kid...Friends WILL come and go but TRUE friends will be there forever.
  6. Lived in Atlanta for several years and you had better get to the store early if you think you are going to find anything that even resembles bread....HAHAHAHAHA. It sounds funny but you are right. Bread seems to be the first to go. At least it doesn't last too long down there. We are getting slammed up here in N.W. Pennsylvania and it was 8 degrees outside when we woke up this morning. The minute you step outside your nose starts to run and the snotcicles begin to form. These are pics from an earlier snow but it looks the same today... and it is STILL SNOWING NOW! The first picture is of our side yard and pastures...You can only see the very top of our well. The second pic is of Tom's semi and we had to jump it using my Kia Sorento...It was so cold it just didn't want to start. We wish all of our DC friends in the south well. Stay warm ...at least you know it is only for a short time. We still have 3 more months of the crap!
  7. Remembering our Vets shouldn't just be one day of the year but EVERYDAY !!!!! I had all my return address labels printed with "thank a vet!" at the bottom of them to remind me of how lucky I am to live in the USA. I got my cards out and I just got home from work and will be calling family members who are vets as soon as I log off. Always remember ... If you love your freedom................. THANK A VET!!!!!!!!
  8. We'll be there! I think Tom has a little surprise for y'all!
  9. Better late than not at all.....Happy B-Day! C-ya at the banquet. Rumor has it that Tom has a little something up his sleeve! ^0^
  10. This is a little OT but.............Hey Dad, you need an avatar! How about this one? Call me and I will tell you how to set it up. Or if you have any kingsmen photos we can upload those too. Ok now back to the topic at hand.
  11. Erepa Grotto Dum Corps (1950's), Erie Cadets (Jr. Corps 1950's).....or are these too old? :P I don't know if this corp counts but how about the Johnsonburgh Diplomats?
  12. With Tom being out on the road and the boys soccer going on the nights the T-Birds have rehearsal we don't get to be as involved as we would like to be. <_< BUT, this is one event we NEVER miss. Two years ago we even cut our honeymoon short to make the Silver Creek parade. Unfortunately that year neither of us were able to march because we got there too late but we made it to the picnic at Bill and Pat's. We broke our necks to get out of Canada and back in time but we just missed everything. <**> Last year we went up and made it to the parade. Tom hadn't played for almost a year but he jumped in and marched with the corps and played the concert afterwards while I took LOTS of pictures. This year was fun. We drove up so Tom could march the parade. I had planned on watching my husband and my family come down the parade route. Well somehow....(I won't point any fingers but his initials are Joe Salorino) I ended up out there too. LOL It felt good to be back if only for a day. Thank you guys for allowing me to jump in. Oh and thank you Gary for the use of your black slacks for the parade. The corps joining together to play Rio was really cool to see and hear. When the soloists came forward to SCREAM it was awesome. I was especially proud of one in particular. Hmmm who could that have been??????? GREAT JOB EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And as always WE LOVE OUR T-BIRDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. What a sad state of affiars... Something so nice ends up with perverts infiltrating the forum. We are lucky to have a man like GARY on top of all this. If he is in the know he will act on the problem in an appropriate and timely manner.. Thank you Gene for the warning. Your the best.
  14. Sorry .............no picture of Jeff balancing a horn but here is one of him with a table..............
  15. LOL Tom and I decided to drive to Miami for the weekend to see the Dolphins (his team) and the Falcons (My Team) play. Yeah kind of crazy since we live all the way up here in good old Erie, PA. Anyway....... While in Miami I had to stop at a K-Mart to make sure I had enough film to get photos of my Falcons kicking some Fish butt (and they did) when this guy saw my Thunderbirds mini corps shirt and stopped me. He was on vacation with his wife but they were from Meadville>>>Where the Thunderbirds began. It really IS a SMALL WORLD. SIDE NOTE>> Guess this goes to show everyone that if you are wearing anything that associates you to ANY group....People may see you as a representation of the WHOLE group >>So ALWAY be on your best behavior.
  16. BROKEN WARRIOR That funny look upon your face, Whenever I pass by. Tells me you don't understand, The patch upon my eye. My wheelchair is a novelty, It makes a certain sound. I got it several years ago, When my legs could not be found. You stare at me and then you turn, In hopes I'll go away. Hello, my friend, is what I've been, Hoping you will say. I lost more than my legs and eye Fighting for Uncle Sam I came back home to find I don't know who I really am They gave me a place to call my own It's call the D.A.V. And when you say your prayers at night I hope you'll remember me Some of my friends are on the streets They spend their time alone America's broken warriors On the street without a home? Before the war when I was strong And everything was here If you had known me then you'd know I'm nothing you should fear The other vets all feel the same We're nothing you should dread We are the one's who fought for you And Freedom's why we bled So the next time you see me on the street Or saluting the flag passing by You'll understand the reason for the tear In the corner of my single eye. Written from the heart by Rebecca Cole This poem just struck me as sad but true...... Please take a moment to remember ALL of our Vets...Ones lost to war, the ones who came back disabled and to the ones who came home to continue their lives normally, or as normally as they could. God Bless our vets and God Bless America............ A special thank you to all my family members who have fought for our freedom.........
  17. Tom and I were trying to figure out how to suprise y'all and show up for the concert. Well, the suprise was on us and his schedule was switched up and he will be on the road this weekend. We thought he was going to have this weekend off. I had planned to try to drive down to MD and get him. We are hoping to catch a show this year at some point. We are sorry it isn't this one. Blow their faces off T-Birds.
  18. Memories????????? What other corps can say their drum line cadenced their corps on by drumming on an old dodge duster but the Kingsmen of Hamburg, NY???????? The Poops was a great guy. Until the day he died he always told Irish that he still saw me as the little girl with long blond curls carrying Daddy's shako and horn for him. A man NEVER to be duplicated.
  19. It really is hard to believe it has been a year. He was so young..... I knew Poopsie from the time I was 3 years old.... He and others from the Hamburg Kingsmen came to my parents house to help my Dad strip wall paper so he could go to practice. Poopsie walked thru the door and with a thunderous voice announced "It's the POOPS !!!!!!!!!" I will never forget the sound of his voice. God love you Poops ...........
  20. w/Stp: Did you miss the following quote from top of this page???????? So AGAIN>>>>>> To do drill or not to do drill THAT was the ORIGINAL question in this topic.... Have a good day gentlemen.
