  1. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 9, 2014. The Skyliners Drum & Bugle Corps is scheduled to compete at the local Drum Corps Associates show in Scranton, Pennsylvania on Saturday, August 16th. The Skyliners are now based in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area and rehearse at Wyoming Valley West High School in Plymouth, Pennsylvania. Therefore, the DCA show being held at Scranton High School Stadium, 63 Mike Munchak Drive in Scranton, is very much our “home show.” Further, the Skyliners Drum & Bugle Corps are proud to welcome Joey Pero, Buglers Hall of Fame Member and Trumpet Player Extraordinaire, to spend the upcoming Scranton, Pennsylvania weekend with them (August 16 – 17, 2014). We invite local band members, directors and staff members to come on out and see what has been happening in the Valley, and enjoy our 2014 show - “A New Dawn, a New Day”. We also look forward to seeing many New York Skyliner Alumni at this show. New York Skyliner Alumni continue to attend shows and march in the American Section to support the field corps, and the Skyliners have been warmly welcomed back by other DCA corps and administration as well. As the Skyliners’ first season back in competition comes to the mid-season, our return has been a great success in many ways. After their Bridgeport, Connecticut DCA performance, the Skyliners also competed at the July 19th Secaucus, New Jersey, the July 26th Downingtown, Pennsylvania and Lawrenceville Township, New Jersey shows. In addition to an entertaining performance which begins in traditional fashion on the starting line in a company front, and includes some traditional Skyliner moves and melodies, scores are improving as we expect they would. Plans for the 2015 DCA season are already underway as the Skyliners will continue building this legendary drum and bugle corps into the future! A 2015 Open House announcement should not be too far behind! To find out more about the Skyliners Drum & Bugle Corps, keep up-to-date with us via our website, http://www.Sky2014.org, or the Skyliners Drum & Bugle Corps Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/skylinersdbc. For those interested in marching this summer or joining us in 2015, contact us at info@marchsky.org for membership information.

This summer I'm determined to learn, so I can do a snare solo for my States solo and ensemble contest! Can anyone recommend some Youtube videos and books for me to look at? Currently i have one pair of sticks and my friend gave me a HQ realfeel pad today.

  20. I just watched Cavalier's 2008 (kick-azz) show, and noticed something intriguing in their front ensemble, aka, the pit. During the show, a pit member played what looked like a flute or recorder of some sort. You know, a woodwind. At another point, a pit member played something like a zither or hammered dulcimer, which is a STRINGED instrument (albeit struck with mallets). (seen at 4:32 on Fan Network finals video) I just read the DCI rule book (2009 edition), which states the front ensemble can play any membraned or keyed instrument. Made no mention of woodwinds or strings. But there was no statement saying that the pit was forbidden to play such things either. So what exactly is the limit, if any, in the pit? Have the judges simply overlooked infractions in the pit? Could a front ensemble play a clarinet or a concert harp if the mood struck them? More importantly, could the pit play bagpipes?? (please say yes!) A side question: How come the pit does not wear hats?
