niki@hcb.org Posted September 6, 2007 Share Posted September 6, 2007 on the heels of the corps debut competitive performance this past weekend at the DCA mini-corps competition, in which the EXCELSIOR mini-corps performed the corps 2007 show entitled, "Fairly-Odd", the corps is now ready to announce the continuation of the competitive journey into 2008.The EXCELSIOR Drum and Bugle Corps will field a competitive Class-A corps in 2008! This step follows the original 5 year plan of the organization and is actually a full year ahead of schedule. Founded in 2004, and debuting in 2005, the corps has been marching the streets of the Capital Region of New York and the Bershires of Massachussetts in parade and exhibition, most notably exhibitioning at the Kingston, NY('06 &'07) and Clifton, NJ('07) DCA competitions. The buzz about the corps at DCA was great and the reception the mini-corps recieved was truly overwhelming for the membership and EXCELSIOR administration alike. The DCA community is a class act and ultimately we are so please to be joining this elite group. It was very heart warming to hear so many people are following the progress of our corps and even more exciting to talk to so many people who are interested in being a part of the journey. As many of you are aware, space in the 2008 competitive corps will be limited to the 65 member limitations set by DCA for Class-A competitive corps. There are positions available in every section and our 2008 season will start on Nov. 23, 24, 25 for a three day camp. Interested performers may send a note of interest to our Director by visiting our website...www.excelsiordrumcorps.org. Another exciting day in the history of EXCELSIOR! let's try this again...I don't why it has to be so difficult... That's great news! jazzyjeff Posted September 6, 2007 Share Posted September 6, 2007 I have been reading with intrest your continued spat with princessl and although it is fun to see I am very annoyed with a statement that you made about there not being a competitive corps in the area for over 20 years. Why is the old CAPITOL BRASS always ignored? As a past member of that corps I am really proud of what we accomplished in the 1990's. After all if there was a class A at that time we would have been first or second three out of the four years that I marched with them. But of course the fourth year we didn't make it to the top of what would have been CLASS A because we were in the TOP TWELVE IN THE DCA that year which of course was in 1993 whcih when you do the math was only 14 years ago . Just think of where we could have placed if the people of the area had marched with us in stead of all the big corps that they traveled out of the area to march with because we were not good enough to march with. Maybe you guys will have better luck than we had, but I seriously doubt it , there just isn't the intrest in the area anymore. well that is my two cents worth. Hey Jeff, Sorry to not give props when due. I will not say that there has not been a corps in the area for 20 years any more. I know very well what you are saying about the players in the area driving to corps that are hours away, but loyalty is a bond that often can not be broken. Anyone driving away from the area to march elsewhere, I say god bless 'em. Wish they would come out and play with us, but I truly understand the ties they have.
