ducttapedgerbil
the state of Kalifornia is cracking down (thank you Moonbeam) on electronic bingo machines run by non-profit organizations (Drum & Bugle Corps, churches, etc...)b. The income from these machines is a significant portion of the income of these bingo operations (upwards of 50%). The non-profits are forming an organized defense, hopefully they will prevail.... Do bingo operations in other states use these machines? If so, have you had any legal issues involving their operation?
sburstall
I work at two bingo halls. Yes, we do use Travelers wireless machines. <edited -mn>
bstar82
Why are they cracking down on the use of these machines? These are used at the game I volunteer at here in Denver and customers still have the option to buy paper cards as well. As a matter of fact, most folks that play a traveler usually purchase a couple of paper packs as well. I cannot see what the problem would be with these. A customer is still making a purchase and has to hit the enter button after every number is called. It seems to be just an easier way for people to play without falling behind with a dauber. I used to work Bingo 30 years ago for my church and I was shocked to see how much the number of players has fallen when I started working again a couple of years ago. The horse and dog tracks are almost out of business here as well. I'm sure the casinos which were legalized here in 1991 has a lot to do with it and to boot Colorado has the tightest betting restrictions at $5 a hand maximum bet than any other state that allows casino gambling. An average night 30 years ago drew around 150-175 players. Now we are happy to get 70-80 but we have seen some sessions draw as few as 35 or so. LaughingMan
Why are they cracking down on the use of these machines? They are cracking down because the Indian casinos want them shut down and have spent millions to do it. The CA Attorney General, who is in charge of gaming in CA, intends to run for Governer and wants the money and support of the Tribal gaming organizations. He is throwing the small charities under the bus to get it. The Casinos have become monsters. At this point they are bent eliminating any form of competition even though none of them pose any type of threat to them. The thing is though, no one not involved with the small charities cares about this at all. They just want their casinos. http://www.sacbee.com/102/story/924569.html I'm sure we can take his word that he'll be prudent... DCIHasBeen
Why are they cracking down on the use of these machines? I think the legal reason has to do with the lack of a paper card, etc. ... That these machines are more like slot machines than bingo. But yeah, like the other poster said. The Indian Gaming interests are trying to put everyone else out of the gambling business.
