  1. Drum Corps needs more shows like this. It will be truly sad when the last people who make this show special are gone. I really hope someone steps up to continue this tradition or spreads the word to make events like it happen elsewhere.
  2. Do you mean to imply that the topic is really bringing out the best in people? Knocking down borders and presenting something remotely resembling a half intelligent conversation?
  3. I'm digging the vibe in this thread. I'll give it a shot... The "Cadets vs Crown" topic will continue to cause DCP to be the center for stupidity on the internet, surpassing even YouTube comments and video game forums!
  4. This is horrible! The Blue Stars are going back to div 3! Locusts will fill their Food truck and then the entire organization will catch on fire! How's that?
  5. I'm sad for the 'Coats, but I'm sure a lot of people will really wany that position. It will be interesting next year with new drum staff and guard staff only 1 year in.
  6. This is exactly my problem with this thread. It is impossible to decipher fact from fiction. DCI did not take over anything. They sent a representitive to observe what was going on. When they were satisfied he left. I think that the questions Mr Tracht asked are fair and I believe he asked them out of genuine concern. However I am not any where near being convinced that the things that happened in 2006 were a result of such dire mismanagement that they warrant a complete slate wiping. This feels more and more like a witch hunt every day.
  7. Interesting that you mention evidence, since so far as I am aware we never really got any as to any of this happening, or happening the way some people insist it did. What I remember was a lot of people coming on here and yelling about what someone told them that they had heard. I know DCP is a source of hard hitting unbiased journalism, but somethings just don't add up. I remember seeing a post by a staff person (horn staff? Does anyone else remember?) contradicting many of the statements made on here. Did anyone here experience this first hand?
  8. Obviously, I underestimated them. A 6 is far too low. I think when you account for West coast inflation at their show in Madison, Wisconsin they will get an 11.675. Very exciting stuff coming from the left coast this year.
  9. I think at their next show they will get a 6.
  10. There is a corps traditionally at the bottom of World class and in talking to several former members they go through 2 or 3 complete sets of staff in the course of a season. That is why number have been so low. It is hard for them to feel a corps identity or really even learn when they are confronted with 2 or 3 different techniques and teaching styles. I could see money affecting this, but I don't think that any corps is really shelling out money for teaching staff.
  11. They are cracking down because the Indian casinos want them shut down and have spent millions to do it. The CA Attorney General, who is in charge of gaming in CA, intends to run for Governer and wants the money and support of the Tribal gaming organizations. He is throwing the small charities under the bus to get it. The Casinos have become monsters. At this point they are bent eliminating any form of competition even though none of them pose any type of threat to them. The thing is though, no one not involved with the small charities cares about this at all. They just want their casinos. http://www.sacbee.com/102/story/924569.html I'm sure we can take his word that he'll be prudent... Tming is everything
  12. From scvanguard.org and bluedevils.org: So they are combining home shows, but it won't be judged?
  13. Dear Ghost of Drum Corps Past, I know I wished that drum corps was nothing but Pits, but I realize now that I was wrong. Drum corps needs a full spectrum of hornlines and battery equiptment! I was wrong! Please Spirit, tell me it isn't too late! Please tell the audio engineers to put the hornlines and batteries back in the recordings! Please Spirit! I'll never take the other sections for granted ever again!!!! I will always play my marimba within the ensemble, just please, bring them back! I beg you...!!!
  14. While it would be quite a feat, I don't think that their current model is one that will allow for the level of performance required for top 12. Ever. I think that what was described in an earlier post is what Academy is striving for, but I think that it should be the same for the rest. If you don't want to conduct yourself like a div. I corps, you are div. II. There is nothing wrong with being div. II. Some of the corps talk about being div. II as if their members won't get as much out of the experience if they are div. II. Do it and do it well. It's time to call a spade a spade. That's all there is to it.
  15. You're basing that off a 17 second clip of the "Eureka!" yell on YouTube? I've seen the show. It is nothing short of amazing, even sans closer!
  16. From what I understand this is pretty much how things have been at Pioneer for quite a while. I talked to a few former Pio members a few years ago who said they wouldnt go back because it was too frustrating having staff on a revolving door.
  17. Glassmen - WTF?! That is one of the best uniforms out there. Simple, Classy, simple and looks great on the field. The original version is one of the best ever. Why change it just to change it? What do the left over christmas tree cranberry beads have to do with anything? "Oh man, I'm glad they had those beads on their uniforms or it would never have made sense!" Plus the weight of the beads is pulling the jacket down. They all look hunched over. Spirit - Hmm. The 2003-4 uniforms were my favorite uniforms out there. This one is okay (anything looks better than the last couple years with those hideous blue sequin monstrosities over the delta. I think it would look better without the stripes or without the black section all together. The dip dyed gradient looks very sharp. Much nicer than Madison. Scouts - Speaking of Madison... I showed this uniform to a non drum corps person. He asked me if they were Irish and that the aussie looked really out of place. I have to agree. This uni needs all kinds of help. Crown - It would look much better if they cut off the tassle piece. A lot like the BD uni when they shortened up the sash in 98. A great concept, but just needs a little adjustment. Troopers - Love the update. They look very serious. I agree with the general assessment that they could use a sash. just a little splash of color. Visual dirt will be like finding a needle in a stack of needles with them. (ever see Saw 2? ^0^ ) One thing. My. God. Get those things fitted. Soon! Just say no to Diaper butt! Also, maybe tone down the shoulder pads just a bit. Bluecoats - It's okay, loose the flappy thing and fake jewel. Also, with those big helmets you need broader shoulder. some shoulder cuffs would help a lot. The narrow shoulders make them look a bit like bobble heads. Colts - Man these are sweet. I love them. I was very 'meh' about them the past 6 years or so, but these are great. Contemporary and edgy, but they will look good for a long time. The clear winner this year.
  18. So with the Platinum membership you will be paying about $11 bucks per show with the ability to watch them as many times as you want vs paying about $15 to watch it once. You'll also get access to the APD library for streaming and a buck off of APD downloads. Granted $11 is chreaper than the price of a ticket, but it's not live. Baseball tickets are about $40 bucks a piece and it's shown on TV for free (apples and oranges I know.) I realize that they probably spent some money to aquire the technology to make this stuff happen and that prices will likely decrease in subsequent years, (well, maybe not likely, but that's what SHOULD happen) however I don't think it is justifiable to charge $30 more for a year long membership when the only essential change is that instead of 3 minute clips we are getting whole shows. It just seems a bit ridiculous to me to ONLY sell year long memberships when the fact is there will only be 8 WEEKS of updates.
  19. I agree $90.00 for a year is a little too steep for myself. I don't think that was such a good move, but maybe they know something we don't.
  20. Me personally, I loved the 21st one. Some one mentioned cabbage and so I made cole slaw for dinner that night. It was the best cole slaw ever.
