Drum Corps Photos

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! If you haven't noticed, I have posted new photos up in the DCP Photo Archive.

These photos are ones I took at the shows a couple of weeks ago in Southern California. The following shows photos were taken:

1. Corps at the Crest (Mt. Sac) -Walnut, CA

2. Corps at the Crest (Vista) - San Diego, CA

3. Western Corps Connection (RCC) - Riverside, CA

Hope you all enjoy looking at them (Sorry, they are not available for sale or giveaways)

Thanks everyone! There is still room for improvement, IMO. I am very picky. I need more gear (and of course money) to set up some different type of shots. With the big zoom, there is much compression. Basically, the focal plane is so very narrow. For example, if my focus is on the bell of the horn, then the face will be out of focus, but it does blur out distracting backgrounds.

Anyways, here are my favorite pics from this year(description follows each link):

Vista show:

Looks almost like he is banging the stick against his head in frustration.

Park and blow!

Love the tones and the expressions. Looks like keeping hands warm over a bonfire The kid 2nd from the right makes the shot.

Love how the light and shadows play on his face

I know, imagine another Vanguard photo. They are always so photogenic. I prefer the face out of focus and the focus on the trumpet in that shot (also, the very tip of the rim of the hat). It has a commercial feel to it vs. the one with the face in focus.

Looks like a recruitment poster for Phantom Regiment

Love how the backfield lights lit up her hair. For some reason, I got my nice shots of Phantom's guard. Their tans and their hair really had nice tones and lighting.

I like how the equipment frames her and I also like how clean the shot is.

The expression and the form on the gown.

The bass drummer where he is and how he is looking at the snare player I like. The VK on his top hat is in perfect spot.

Interesting :offtopic:

To get the gong player is a chore in itself, as it is always buried in the back of the pit.

Vanguard cymbal line jammin'.

Thanks for digesting them. There are too many to view them all while at work.

Your highlights are great! They remind me of some of those old Drum Corps World (?) cartoons of corps in the 70s and 80s. That one Vanguard dude wailing and the Phantom Eugh line about to march out of my screen walk all over my face are definite favorites.
