crfrey71
Thanks everyone! There is still room for improvement, IMO. I am very picky. I need more gear (and of course money) to set up some different type of shots. With the big zoom, there is much compression. Basically, the focal plane is so very narrow. For example, if my focus is on the bell of the horn, then the face will be out of focus, but it does blur out distracting backgrounds. Anyways, here are my favorite pics from this year(description follows each link): Vista show: http://photos.drumcorpsplanet.com/gallery/...329947606_pNwHF Looks almost like he is banging the stick against his head in frustration. http://photos.drumcorpsplanet.com/gallery/...329119454_tB2ih Park and blow! http://photos.drumcorpsplanet.com/gallery/...329119869_AvRNj Love the tones and the expressions. Looks like keeping hands warm over a bonfire The kid 2nd from the right makes the shot. http://photos.drumcorpsplanet.com/gallery/...329120050_eKsHU Love how the light and shadows play on his face http://photos.drumcorpsplanet.com/gallery/...329120122_dxVMa I know, imagine another Vanguard photo. They are always so photogenic. I prefer the face out of focus and the focus on the trumpet in that shot (also, the very tip of the rim of the hat). It has a commercial feel to it vs. the one with the face in focus. http://photos.drumcorpsplanet.com/gallery/...328559757_zBHCx Looks like a recruitment poster for Phantom Regiment http://photos.drumcorpsplanet.com/gallery/...328976257_C3wS8 Love how the backfield lights lit up her hair. For some reason, I got my nice shots of Phantom's guard. Their tans and their hair really had nice tones and lighting.
crfrey71
From the Riverside show: http://photos.drumcorpsplanet.com/gallery/...328455993_hB2PZ The picture says it all. You fill in the blanks. http://photos.drumcorpsplanet.com/gallery/...328455890_DNSFx The horn player's look at her makes the shot. http://photos.drumcorpsplanet.com/gallery/...327692749_wmsEg Some symmetry http://photos.drumcorpsplanet.com/gallery/...326992088_FiLGv Vanguard coming at you http://photos.drumcorpsplanet.com/gallery/...323849570_Ti85E BD guard coming at you in nice form http://photos.drumcorpsplanet.com/gallery/...323858705_8HrJR BD battery looking bad ###
crfrey71
and from the show at Walnut: http://photos.drumcorpsplanet.com/gallery/...326619898_aXi2s I like how the bass drums are. http://photos.drumcorpsplanet.com/gallery/...326621578_Bg7Ae I like how the equipment frames her and I also like how clean the shot is. http://photos.drumcorpsplanet.com/gallery/...326385480_HShDg The expression and the form on the gown. http://photos.drumcorpsplanet.com/gallery/...326544746_gd6ZP The bass drummer where he is and how he is looking at the snare player I like. The VK on his top hat is in perfect spot. http://photos.drumcorpsplanet.com/gallery/...326546207_se3CM Thriller http://photos.drumcorpsplanet.com/gallery/...326546279_jzgvo Interesting http://photos.drumcorpsplanet.com/gallery/...325989833_kqeUh To get the gong player is a chore in itself, as it is always buried in the back of the pit. http://photos.drumcorpsplanet.com/gallery/...325697406_sfKo8 Vanguard cymbal line jammin'. http://photos.drumcorpsplanet.com/gallery/...323784156_AGYaM Wailing http://photos.drumcorpsplanet.com/gallery/...0_qPNFa#P-22-15 Again, symmetry...well almost. the one saber being off sync. PCSoprano9702
Thanks for digesting them. There are too many to view them all while at work. Your highlights are great! They remind me of some of those old Drum Corps World (?) cartoons of corps in the 70s and 80s. That one Vanguard dude wailing and the Phantom Eugh line about to march out of my screen walk all over my face are definite favorites.
