Top Cat
I haven't seen any reviews on the 2 Midwest DCA shows this past weekend!!!! No official reporters there???? Here is my take on the shows: 1. Minn Brass has a very good package this year. Brass is a little light but with room to grow. Percussion is hot - like really good. Could be their best line ever. Visual is more demanding than the past years, lot more body and complexity to the package. (Shows up in some very good ensemble numbers) Color guard looking very complete, should be at the least competative with the East guards. 2. Kilts, Good, solid show, Needs a bunch of cleaning (especially visual), but has a lot of interest, power and depth to all 3 captions. 50 Brass can sound out well at times. Full drum line but struggling to put visual and music together. Color guard, best they have ever had. Not in the category with the upper East guards but should not be a hold back section like the last years. Whatever people think of Scott Stewart, he has done a great job bringing this corps back into a competative position. 3. Chops & Govies- 2 well matched corps. Each has strengths and some weaknesses, both should be in the mix for Class A at Rochester. Govies are a bit more entertaining, especially with their guard. Chops gets their horn show across better, and percussion is a wash. 4. Lakeshoremen, great improvement over last year. Maybe not quite up to being a Class A contender for finals, but definetly in the right direction. Drum line is about their best section (right now), guard show is very entertaining (but needs a lot of cleaning), horn line has their moments. Anyone else their? Care to add anything??
