Todd Tanji
NOT ALL ELECTRONIC BINGO MACHINES ARE ILLEGAL. That is the key argument here. Clarify what is and what isn't illegal first, then work within that framework.
JohnD
They're not obligated anyways under bills that have already been passed. They can pay, or not pay, according to their whim. No matter how they play that card in the current debate, it doesn't change the reality of the laws already passed. Correct ... but it doesn't diminish the power of the political threat, especially in the context of the state budget situation.
Todd Tanji
Yes, the reality here is Indian gaming politics and the threat to the CA budget. The rest of this is all show.

User412
There are serious debates going on here. The real problem is the lack of knowing where things stand now. However, who wins/lose seems to be a dead issue. "Charity wars" as one guy points out. Notice how all the Comm debate was on issues not focused on much in testimony. These are the issues that will decide the fate of the bill at this stage
Linda Slocum
Correct ... but it doesn't diminish the power of the political threat, especially in the context of the state budget situation. Anyone who thinks that the Mafia Indian gaming interests are going to contribute to the CA budget out of the goodness of their hearts is just plain crazy... this is all about money and greed, and they have no obligation whatsoever to help out the CA budget. They'll be "friendly" until they get enough laws passed to gain complete ownership of CA gaming, and then they'll lock everything down so CA gets nothing. Jeff DeMello
Headed for a table? One would hope with this much confusion there would be a motion to table.
User412
One would hope with this much confusion there would be a motion to table. Chair seems impatient with it. Either table or forced half ###ed vote. EDIT: I am afriad that at this stage there is more "lets move it along and work this out along the way" Edited August 22, 2008 by User412
