audiodave
I agree. I think the larger hornline can handle more "parts". Fatter sounding chords, and of course Volume. I'm not really convinced that 25 horns can have the same effect as 60. Even if they were both to play at exactly the same volume, the larger hornline would still sound better. Say for example you took 2 people from each section of BD, Cadets, or any other major Hornline and they did their show in a semicircle in front of you. Then AT THE SAME VOLUME you heard the entire hornline, the larger hornline would still sound better. Yes? No? MelloHorn13
OK Most people have been talking about horns lines of 20 and bigger. Racine Socuts had 8 horns in 2002, and I think we were good..scores didn't reflect it but i think the other competitive things we did showed it. We marched a parade in July 4 and we won the parade with 8 horns: 5 sops, 1 mello, 1 bari, 1 contra. And this is not some of these 2 block parades, it was a 3 mile parade. We placed over some pretty big groups. Kilties(40 horns), RacineScouts Alumni(54), Brigade Marchign Band(84 winds), and a lot of other corps and bands. I think people look for music that is recogniazble and sound good and clean. Size doesn't really matter and when it came to volume I think anyone who saw the show knows we can get pretty loud. I think people forget what small corps have accomplished....Mandarins 10 person horns line, won div 3....Americano 29 total people int eh corps...and many more. DevsBari02
I have come to realize over the years that who is standing in front of the line is probably THE most crucial in dealing with what a line sounds like.
MrNailbat
Horns? Ensemble size? A jedi considers not these things. The people in the line, and the person standing in front of them are the essential difference.
