Empire Statesmen Open House and Banquet Report

Recommended Posts

The Empire Statesmen Drum and Bugle Corps had their 2008 Banquet to celebrate the end of the 25th Anniversary on Saturday November 29th. With 250 people in attendance many memories were brought back by a large picture display that took up the entire foyer for the ballroom. Inside the ballroom props from past years, flags and other memorabilia were displayed. Gil Silva (DCA President) and Red Corso (DCA Treasurer) were both in attendance, which was a special treat. The evening was filled with awards to close out the 2008 season and the announcement of things for the upcoming season. A video that was compiled about Mr. Vincent Bruni (Statesmen founder) was shown and it brought back many fond memories of the man who made the Statesmen what it is today. The evening ended with a party with the Half Ton Horns - (rochester based funk band). The band was started by alumni of the Empire Statesmen and today 3 alums and 2 current members are still in the band. A great time was had by all. For pictures from the event please visit www.statesmen.org.

In conjunction with the banquet the corps held its annual Open House at Mercy HS in Rochester. The camp was a way to get together and play one more time before the end of the year and to also test out some of the music for 2009.

With 50 horns, 35 percussion and 25 guard in attendance throughout the weekend...the corps was able to work through and ensemble the opener and closer for the 2009 season. This was a very exciting milestone for the corps.

The Empire Statesmens next camp is January 3-4, 2009 at Mercy HS in Rochester, NY. We have openings in all sections and would love to see new faces at this next camp. If you are interested please visit the website at www.statesmen.org or call Jimmy Steele at 585-317-9389.

We wish everyone to have a safe and joyous holiday season!!!

Unfortunately I could not attend the Open House and Banquet, but having marched the past two seasons with The Statesmen, I would strongly urge anyone interested in marching the 2009 season to check them out. This is a great bunch of people, and the corps is all about Excellence and Entertainment. The administration goes out of their way to provide all of the tools neccessary for the corps to be successful, and the 2009 staff is just totaly outstanding.

We sure missed you Judge.

The really amazing part of the weekend was the New and Improved Color Guard. About 50% turnover and still had more Guard at practice this weekend than we had on the field at DCA.
