Is size going to be an issue?

Recommended Posts

Is size going to be an issue? That's the title of the thread. I go off that.

Or...

We can just stop beating around the bush and say what some are thinking? Is BDB winning because they're big? Not because they have a great staff, great recruiting, and the one thing people tend to overlook is regardless of their size, their shows are written for the talent level of the members. Failure to do this has tripped up more than a few corps even back in the 80s when I marched. Corps would manage to field a 75-80 member corps and suddenly the staff would think they were the next Boston Crusaders (ask an old head about this reference). It's one thing to have difficulty in your shows, but it is another thing entirely to put so much difficulty in the show that the entire summer is spent cleaning the same thing over and over, eventually, the members start to tune out and next summer your corps isn't so large anymore.

agreed, and I apologize for my tone last post.

What about doing what WGI does have different classes, there is 8 classes, independence class, ( a, open and world ) scholastic class( a, open and world) and concert class (open, world)

So for drum corps there would be no scholastic class, but there could be.

But go back to the old days have division, have division 3, 2 and 1

But go a little farther have

All based on what class you corps is.

You could have all age class and junior class and youth class, scholastic class (high school class, middle school class and international class too. All based on what type of corps you have.

Example: All age class 3 winner somebody like Alliance, or Youth class 3 Blue Devil C Corps) or Junior class 2 winner Teal Sound, Avon High School drum corps winner division 1 high school class and so on.

Indoor class 5 which is mini corps 30 or less (a class), marched or stand still on a basket ball court inside.

Indoor class 4 which is still mini (open class), 30 members and up what 1 bus can hold say 45 member or more still on a basket ball court.

Indoor class 3 would be mini corps still on a basket ball court, max size of what ever two buses can hold say 90 members.

Indoor class 2 full size corps indoor, this division is still indoor, max size. A little not as talented corps but still really good.

Indoor class 1 , full size corps, super talented but still indoor.

Finally

Outdoor division class 4 through 1 (all age, junior, youth and scholastic high school and middle school.

Break down the same as above but on a football field.

This would give every one a chance to win their class, from the Blue Devil C corps to a mini corps to the Teal Sound to Alliance to Blue Devils A and so on.

Every drum corps in every size and type , with competition all over the county, in either indoor or outdoor type..

Have regional show and local shows everywhere, but you have to qualify the go the world championship much like WGI does it.

But the corps have to pass the financial stress test to go to worlds, so not to lose any corps because of financials, so if you don't have the bucks stay local.

Right now having this many division doesn't make sense but this would help to grow the numbers of drum corps and when you have hundred to thousand of corps having different division would make sense.
