DCPI Times Season 16 Article 3!

Last week was really all about the regional championships around DCPI!

Scheduling issues seem to have left Crimson Eagle Regiment all on their own to take the European Championship.

We said the East was going to be between Quilt and Purple Mountain Majesty with a real shot at Open Class corps Les Blanc Chevalier besting them all and basically, that’s exactly what happened at the two day event! Quilt took Friday’s prelims just edging out Buffalo Sabres, Purple Mountain Majesty AND Lake Ontario Crusaders! However it was LBC who got the highest score of the night taking Open Class! Saturday night though it all switched around as most of the World counterparts beat LBC and Purple Mountain Majesty jumped to the top to take the East Championship! Quilt continued a strong showing and got silver while Buffalo Sabres got bronze. Les Blanc Chevalier and Cape Cod Regiment won the Open and A Class East championships by commanding margins.

We said the West Finals were small but packed a punch and as those corps put up some great numbers, they proved this to be the case! We said the Elite Brigade held the favored status and they did not let up the entire weekend taking first by over four points at prelims and taking gold by over two and a half at finals! NINNIES took silver while California Knights suffered a bit it seemed from their long break in tour to take bronze. Riverside Elite and Inland Empire Elite rounded out the Elite Group dominance of the West Championship! Later in the week Elite Brigade finally had their tare come to an end when Velour Knights jumped back into competition. Even with a .5 penalty it wasn’t enough to stop VK from taking the top spot in Atascadero and jumping immediately to the top 12 of the leader board! That was not the only story from a western corps, though was the most shocking! California Knights after a slow return from their break seemed to get the changes they had been working on kicked into high gear! By the time the corps reached Des Moines Wednesday, they were number four on the leader board!

Like we said Rosemont was only the warm up for the weekends Midwest Finals and defending champs Stud Bolts came on strong besting the rest of the pack. However at Prelims Nastalgia Vanguard came rocketing to the top besting second place Quiksilver by nearly a point. The Rangers seemed to be sitting quietly though as they saved up all their firepower for Saturday night’s finals and edged both corps out to take Gold! Nastalgia Vanguard grabbed the silver while Quiksilver barely edged out Caprice for the bronze. The Stud Bolts fell far short and ended up 5th at both shows. Our favored Caprice ended up fourth. Nastalgia and Nastalgia Percussion Ensemble finished up the wining in Open and A Class crowning a very successful weekend for Nastalgia Org! By Wednesday our newly crowned East, Midwest and South Champion all met in Carmel IN and NOT ONE OF THEM WON! Tennessee Nipples were able to razzle dazzle the judges and crowd and took down every regional champion but the west! This only goes to show you just what a competitive season this is thus far!

Deep South we saw likely the hottest contested regional and corps jockeying all over! Renegade Brigade came on strong at prelims up against Confederate Regiment and The Knights, but none of them could with stand the power—Knights of Power that is! In a large home field crowd Knights of Power turned out the lights Saturday and jumped from fourth to GOLD with Renegade Brigade and Knights taking silver and bronze. Knights of Org completed their championship win by also taking Open and A Class with Knights of Sound and Knights of Note. It was a special sight to see the Knight Sword ceremony after as the Knights gave tribute to the Knights of Power in a ceremony which include Les Blanc Cheavlier and Cape Cod Regiment live via satellite off their Eastern Finals wins. This was the first time in the Knight Org history that the three organizations were not at the same regional. The corps played Knights March from King Arthur.

Later in the week Knights came back on top as they headed to Centerville OH and not only took the show but claimed back the Knight Sword. This moved the corps to the current number three position. Star of Jupiter headed to Nebraska and SHOT through the pack taking that show and moving to second place on the leader board. Meanwhile Crimson Lions who couldn’t even make a finals night performance at the Midwest finals shocked everyone in Iowa as they took the number one spot on the leader board.

And now this weeks power poll ratings going into the weekend!

Well those of you who don’t like ties—don’t read any further!

No tie at number 1 with 3 first place votes Elite Brigade took the number one spot with 15!

#2 Rangers, Velour Knights, and Star of Jupiter all impressed the voters this week (Star had one first place vote)-9 votes

#5 Crimson Lions with one first place vote and 7 points

#6 Caprice and The Knights with 6 points

#8 Nastalgia Vanguard, Quiksilver and Knights of Power with 5 votes

#11 with 3 votes California Knights.

That is pretty much the who’s who of DCPI as it stands right now. It’s interesting the poll left out the East Champion Purple Mountain Majesty who seemed to fall later in the week and Tennessee Nipples and Quilt who had some great upsets. Look for Treasure Coast Gold, Minnesota Madness and Renegade Brigade who are also climbing up through rankings.

Coming up tonight and tomorrow we have the big get togethers in Stanford and Minneapolis! Velour Knights and California Knights should be the real battle both nights as they slice down the competition in Stanford. Crimson Lions and Knights battle it out on Friday night for the number one spot but look out for Tennessee Nipples and Quilt who both love to play spoiler. Saturday looks to be a celestial event for Star of Jupiter but they will have to hold off The Rangers and Knights of Power who always bring their A game to the big shows! Good luck to all corps this weekend!
