AmFlag61
The departure of Michael Gaines is a sad moment for The Cavaliers, as well as the entire DC Activity. His innovative designs have come close to defining The Cavaliers as a major force in furthering the DC experience as a whole. Will he be missed by the Green Machine? Certainly. But is this the end of the world. I think not. If you are old enough to remember this, whole "OMG! What now???" reaction occurred after Steve Brubaker. Both Steve & Michael were instrumental in forming the Cavalier Style, and while their ongoing input has ended, their legacy remains. Trust me, The Cavaliers will continue to "...march on to Victory". GeneralTsoChicken
The Cavaliers are a group whose last 20 years have been predicated upon letting the staff open their minds, come up with creative ideas, embrace the education process, and collaborate on a grand scale. The Cavaliers will still march well, play well, be innovative visually, march geometric form transitions, and be all male. The Staff will still be educated, good, creative, and have a large influence on the Corps. The more things change there, the more things stay the same. They are the sum of their parts, not the sprocket of one man.
CrunchyTenor
Maybe this thread should be titled, "Cavaliers WGITAYO (While Gaines Is Taking A Year Off)". Even Mike said in his FieldPass interview he's taking a one year break from drum corps. Do you think he'd go anywhere else? This will also give the other two guys a good resume credit they can use to further their career if they choose to go elsewhere when Mike comes back. AmFlag61
BTW, there is NO truth to the rumor that Mr. Gaines will be the Offensive Designer for the Chicago Bears, with upside down Quarterback & Wide Receivers on stilts while the Line carries rifles.

Maybe they'll hire him as QB since Cutler ain't cuttin' it!

Michael Boo
If you wish to thank Michael Gaines for the excitement he's brought to the activity, today would be a good day to do so. According to Facebook, today is his birthday.
