Rich jones
Hi guys! Jim Stanko told me about this discussion, so I thought I'd join DCP and add myperspective. I was telling Jim that I remember this retreat like it wasyesterday. I should because it's not every day one beats the ChicagoCavaliers. The Cavies were a class actand never did an about face when we were passing in review. Their drum major congratulated me and shookmy hand when we won the '66 Dream. Yup, I'm Blessed Sacrament's mid-60s drummajor, Rich "Richie" Jones, strutting proudly through St. Lucy's gauntlet. I didn't come down to earth for a long time and probably needed a largershako size for a while. When the DMs first assembledfor retreat, our staff tipped me off that we had won. I slipped my hand behind my back and gave BSa firm thumb-up. All the corps must haveseen it because there was dead silence from everyone except the GKs. Walt Winkleman and I were proud that day. My father took the 8mm movie and I'm sure glad we have the film to take us back a few years. (Sorry, he neverlearned to pan the camera slowly). Gary Dickelman, GK Alumni, took mydigital copy and mixed the music and stills together - thanks again, Gary. Part 1, covering our off-the-line through concert is out there on YouTube too. Rich jones
Thanks Glenn . . . and hi there Tim! I wish my dad had taken movies of all the corps . . . but it's too late now. For those going to Annapolis for the alumni show, I'll be there on the field again. No, I won't be flapping my arms this time, I'll be taking photos for Drum Corps World. The weight of my cameras will keep me from flappin' away. So, if you see me moving between the field and stands, stop me and say hi.
