Kosmos end-of-season report

Lake Woebegon Crusaders had a fantastic debut season, finishing second at the DCPI-North regionals and engaging in a fierce duel with Cincinatti Glory and hydrofusion before finally pulling away to win the DCPI Division III Championship title, taking High GE at finals in the process and becoming only the second Div III corps to post a score above 90, doing so on two occasions (Muskogee OK and Div III prelims). Our members were extremely thrilled and gracious to accept the title of champions, and are looking forward to another competitive season next year.

Golden Bear enjoyed its' partial tour, performing shows in Europe, Japan, and North America, finishing 4th in Div III competition. The corps will re-examine its plans for partial touring during winter seasons to account for the costs of such an extensive travel schedule.

In Division II, Overdrive had a slow start to its season and spent a good deal of time during 1st tour redesigning the show. By the time the corps headed west, the show had begun to come together, and the corps was able to make a late-season surge to pull even with aerofusion and the North Central Vanguard, passing those corps in Div II prelims and in the process ending aerofusion's unbeaten streak of 27 shows. On finals night, Overdrive set the mark for highest recorded Div II score at 92.205 and captured the corps' first championship as well as the Color Guard trophy.

For Kadence, their first season as a Div 1 corps was the best of both worlds. Early season shows saw the corps struggling with a challenging program and mired deep in the midst of a pack of strong competitors in DCPI-North competition. As DCPI-North regionals approached, the corps began to gel and develop a strong sense of consistency in performance, which led to a 4th place finish in regional competition. The corps parlayed this newfound confidence into its' first show win 6 days later in Hershey PA, and went on to become one of the hottest corps in DCPI in 2005, recording 11 show victories, including a streak of 5 straight wins from Canton OH to Schaumburg IL, and another streak of 4 straight wins, from DeKalb IL to Muskogee OK, to give the corps a huge burst of momentum heading into finals week. During this time, Kadence also was able to spark some intra-orgazational rivalry, beating its sister corps Kosmos on 2 occasions. In prelims, Kadence finished ahead of its sister corps Kosmos in second place, but as it would turn out, that night would prove to be the high point of the corps' successful season. The corps slipped to 6th in the standings the next night but recovered to bring home the bronze medal in DCPI Div 1. The season was a strong body of work that resulted in an outstanding finish for us, and we are greatly anticipating the next season.

Kosmos got off to a strong start at the beginning of the season, winning 3 of its first 4 shows in an effort to return to the top of the mountain. The Warren MI show kicked off a streak that would see Kosmos finish no lower than second place in a given show that would run through the rest of the regular season, with the only exception being a third place finish in Ottawa IL. During this streak, Kosmos netted 9 show wins, including a much-desired victory in the DCPI-North regional championships after failing to make the regional finals the previous season. The competition was fierce during the second half of the season, and Kosmos found itself ooccasionally slipping behind its' rapidly-maturing sister corps Kadence. Finals week saw Kosmos within reach of the top spot, finishing in a third-place tie with coldfusion. A drop to 5th on quarterfinals night was answered with a return to 3rd place on semis, but the corps' quest to achieve the Kosmos "clean sweep" came up tantalizingly short, as the Golden Legion corps, who had enjoyed their own tremendous run during finals week, squeaked by to claim the third DCPI championship by a scant .03 points. Congratulations to Golden Legion for an outstanding season, you are indeed a deserving champion.

Our thanks and congratulations to your organization as well. It has definately been exciting -- adding a little heat to this winter season. It's a treat to be trading off victories with a friendly rival -- your kids have been very classy competitors. All our best. Let's hope next season is as equally inspiring!
