byline
Blue Devils, 1978, Rockford, Ill.: (P.S. By the way, these are all backfield photos because when my parents got there, the seats in the front stands were sold out.)

lindap
Madison Scouts: This is Scott Beckman who won the soprano individuals in 1978. Thanks for the information. IMO This is quite a stunning photo by Art Luebke in terms of shadow and composition.

If only I could do it justice with a better scan. *sigh*
byline
OK, here are quite a few of Oakland. It was actually rather fortuitous that my parents got seats in the back stands, as my spot on the field was backfield, Side No. 2, right next to the 50 for most of the show. The only time I was near the front was during drum solo, for the guard feature; that changed when the drill was rewritten prior to second tour. And then I believe I changed sides after the "X" formation, but I can't recall if that was for first or second tour. Anyway, here's a whole slew of Oakland photos. (Also, the reason why these photos are so grainy is because my dad originally had them developed as slides, then I had them developed as prints. So I believe they lost a fair bit of resolution in that process.) In this one, I'm marching up the 50 (possibly about to hit Mark Blandford; he complained that I always hit him with my flag, bless his heart): Edited January 8, 2008 by byline
