I doubt I'll ever come down from that high.

ironlips
Reggie wailed on some great solos. As for Maynard, he's 77 and plays better than a lot of wanna-be hot shots of 27. More to the point, like Armstrong, Miles and Dizzy, he changed horn playing forever. God bless Maynard Ferguson.

Barnum Festival Committee
The Barnum Festival Weekend: The Festivals' "Parade of Champions-Maynard Fergerson" showcase jumped into high gear Friday noon, with a lunchtime concert at Bridgeport's "People's Plaza" by the (Now celebrating their first aniversary) Park City Pride. The corps was rewarded with a Connecticut Post front page spread, above & below the fold that featured their concert arc and close up shots of that great rifle section. The Buglers Hall of Fame The inaugural Buglers Hall of Fame induction service took place Friday evening at the Holiday Inn located in downtown Bridgeport. Twenty eight great HORNPLAYERS make up the "Class of 2005". Just listening to those bio's being enunciated so well by MC Andy "I'm only a drummer" Lisko made this old witch even greener with envy. A wonderfull tribute. The evening closed with a run through of the numbers that the "Class" would be performing with Maynard Saturday. Frank Doritte did a great job of bringing this "crew" together. The midnight "Witching Hour" came and went and these guys were still at it. The Parade of Champions. The eveniings festivities were led off with the posting of the colors by the newly minted PAL Buccaneers junior corps. A very nice job by a great group of staffers and corps members. The crowd is estimated at some 4000+ "Butts in seats" that completely filled the "Home Plate" area and spilled way past the first and third base lines. Many memories of "Dream Contests" past. Park City Pride: Seventy three brass players, a battery anchored by ten snares five drum majors, and a color guard of "How Many?" members performed Genero-Doritte-Dion arrangements that included "Barnum & Bailiy's Favorites", "How the West was Won", "Never Walk Alone" and the tribute to Joe Genero that featured "Stormy Weather", "Rhapsody in Blue" and "I'll be Seeing You". The first standing "O" of the evening. A great looking "Sundown Shot" of the corps popped up in the Sunday newspaper. Blessed Sacrament Golden Knights: The absoulute cleanest (We got 44) Alumni hornline on the planet. The Dick Burns-Bill Moore charts never sounded better. Tunes included a re-worked "El Cid", "Free Again" (Complete with stratospheric soprano work in the "Finish Line Finale"), and that "Smooth Sac Sound" that is so well remembered from their championship corps of the 1960s. Encore of "National Emblem March" got them a standing ovation. Hawthorne Caballeros Alumni: Larry Kerchner was walking around like a proud father indeed after his "Amigos" (Something like 60 horns, and a battery of twenty five) blazed through charts that included "Sambre De Orpheus", and "Flamenco Cha Cha". Concert of "MacArthur Park" recieved a tumultuous "Standing O". The "Three Amigos" nailed every solo lick, and the forever energetic Jimmy Russo "Led the Band" in his own VERY 'Hi Energy" style. Corps entrance to the field was preceeded by B Hall of Famer Frank Ponzo sounding the "Call to the bulls". New York Skyliners Alumni: Easily the best "Sky Alumni" corps since it's inception. Fort five wailing bugles, and that "2000 pound snare line" rocked with Hy Drietzer recreations (By the one and only Bill Moore) that included "Liar", "Hymm to Victory" (One of the BEST "CP's" ever played anywhere by anyone), and the "Standing O" encore of "Elks Parade". BHOF soloists Johnny "Grass", "Sidemouth" Richardson, Jimmie Maldonado, Kenton Clarke, Jimmie D'Amico and Ruben Ariola all delivered. Following a short intermission, Maynard Fergerson's "High Octane" Band gave the crowd a sampling of their greatest hits. The seventy six year old "Soloist Supreme" Maynard still "Has it" as he blazed through sone incredible trumpet licks. The "MF Band" has it's own "Three Amigo's" trumpet section, that includes drum corps own Joey Pero. Unreal. The evenings musical festivities came to a close with the Maynard Band backing some 20 of the newly inducted BHOFer's on standards "Birdland" and the theme from "Rocky". Maynard was also "Inducted" into the Buglers Hall of Fame with a medallion presentation that ended the performance. A truly wonderfull weekend of drum corps. We look forward to 2006. I wonder if there will be a recording available. Thanks again.
oldbaritone
It was a good evening and its a really good photo. Is there any way I could get a copy of photo? That is my daughter, Kate, sitting in front of Maldonado, her friend, Emma in front of Kenton, my son in front of Frank Dorritie, and his friend, Cara, in front of Jim D'Amico. They seem to be paying rapt attention to Ace Peterson.
