August 1992 - Whitewater, WI

As I stood on the sidelines of what used to be Warhawk Stadium, I watched and cried like a baby as Southwind - the corps I had founded and guided through "infancy" - won the DCI Div. II World Championship on the very same field where exactly 20 years earlier, I had marched with another small corps from Alabama (Charioteers) in the very first DCI Championship ever.

That moment gave me a feeling of continuity that I will never forget. It felt like passing the torch from one generation to the next with the confidence that they would also one day "pass the torch" to the next generation of marchers and so on - down through time. Long live drum corps!
