Why not start at the beginning,1974.

Santa Clara Vanguard

Madison Scouts

Anaheim Kingsmen

ENOUGH SAID!

Amazing performances that new and old drum corps fans will flip over.

My first choice would be for 1988,the whole of the top 12 and beyond were just cooking on gas man.For all round greatness has to be 88.

Next two for obvious reasons 90 and 91,my VHS's are wearing thin, but i love the VHS tapes with all the steve and co's commentary, AND, im on camera back field in 91 during the last time through F tuning, back on the floor, givin it large, not on the DVD <**>

Lets go back to full commentary, introductions and on the road again. The DVD's,although supierior picture quality, are too detatched from the spirit of finals night. The full top 6 live on PBS is stuff of legends.

These are the ones I would debate over.

1988... You start to see the monster that Star was going to be, A great top 6

The top three where unreal, BD- that hornline was unreal, SCV - the phantom show I liked better, Madison - marched their ##### off.

1989. - I liked the top 12 from top to bottom. The top 2... well, enough has been said

1990 - Star is unfreaking real, Cadets where well polised, Cavies were great. I enjoy this top 12 a lot and I never skip a show.

1993 - Colts and G-men make finals for the first time, Blue Devils and Star had unreal hornlines for different reasons, Cadets were full of energy, Phantom was great too.

I would go with 93 because my VCR tape from that year has a low output on the volume side.

I bought 89 first. I wanted to buy the late 90s first (my time) but I did not because I still have them on VHS. So, I saved enough to buy the 5 get 1 free thing or whatever it is and bought 6 from the 80s. The next round was early to mid 90s, then the rest of the 80s and 90s and all I have left are the 70s which I am looking for come Christmas.

'93!!

Colts and Glassmen 1st year in finals...

Blue Knights...the best show they've done in the last decade (at least the most memorable)

Bluecoats...great show! Can't go wrong with Dizzy.

Crossmen...great show!

SCV...an okay show for them, awesome in most other corps books.

Madison...awesome!! In the rain!! Great Audience responses!

Cavaliers...I loved it!

Blue Devils...one of my fav. devils shows of all time!

Phantom...Their best show ever!

Star...Best show ever!!!

Cadets....Best show ever!!!

One of my favorite years from top to bottom.

Good morning:

1980 - the golden year.

This is what I would call the last of the 'old-style' drum corps.

All corps had a style, a certain sound that was all theirs.

Spirit was loud and brassy.

SCV was experimenting with assymetrical drill.

Bridgemen - the clowns.

27th with THE most amazing precision guard ever.

(and the year they went to the Winter Olympics)

Madison with loud and fun and...

Another top to bottom all corps rock year.

Also, Rita Moreno was the co-host and she brought

a wonderful fresh view to the proceedings. I still remember

them talking about her daughter holding up a sign that

said "Cavaliers rule". (Ah - the famous step-over-your-

guard-buddy move!)

AND another great feature for 1980 were the vingettes.

We got to see them talking about Jeff Feidler (his age-out

year), interview another age-out, the Madison DM, who

actually cried on camera (very moving piece). Who could

forget the yearly "On the Road Again" segment!
