Lukehart
The Yorba Linda Onyx Drum and Bugle Corps is pleased to announce the formation of Onyx Training this corps off season. Onyx Training is open to brass students 21 years old or younger looking to prepare for auditions for our nation’s top drum and bugle corps for the 2007 season. This training ensemble is located in southern California and rehearsals will take place on Sunday mornings from August 27th - October 8th. If this interests you, read on for more information and history of the group. History: Onyx Training was informally formed several years ago in the form of private and small group lessons for a small core of dedicated students. These tri-weekly lessons were toward transforming them both physically, mentally and musically to be ready for a top 10 corps. These students went on to be accepted to every division 1 corps on the west coast including much sought after positions in the Blue Devils and Santa Clara Vanguard. Due to the growing demand of students, a formal brass ensemble was formed. Purpose: Onyx Trainings purpose will be two fold. As previously mentioned, it will prepare the members for upcoming auditions for the 2007 season. Each member will commit to daily practice routine based on a popular way to utilize Arban's book and perfect solo material for their instrument. The ensembles student leaders will be vet. members of top 5 corps and will be able to share with aspiring members their respective corps technique, rehearsal style and experiences. Mellos, Baritones and Tubas will recieve Yamaha instruments to play on during their time with the ensemble. Onyx Training will also exist as a unique ensemble in its own right. The group will learn some challenging literature that has proven popular in DCI history and take it to a high quality recording studio for full days session (12 hours). Charts that have been arranged as of this post are Salvation is Created and Russian Christmas Music. Teaching will be centered around what to expect on a session date and what it takes make it as a LA studio musician. Tentatively on staff will be the great Wayne Bergeron (www.WayneBergeron.com) assist in this matter and provide feedback on your playing. If you would like audition materials, please do not hesitate in sending me an email at TrumpetDan714@hotmail.com. Most of the advertising for this is word of mouth and on a handful internet forums so do not hesitate to act on this post. Pervious Onyx Training students take up about 75% percent of the 20 spots we have available so we have 1 or 2 openings on every instrument. Expect the spots, especially in the trumpet section, to be very competitive. Total cost is $250 with no extra charges. You must however, own and bring a tuner. If you have any students or friends interested, please pass this information along to them. -Dan Lukehart Yorba Linda Onyx

tubawarrior
does your group have a website? it might help spread the word if you had one
Lukehart
No website as of yet. While you are completely correct that it would help spread the word, we only need to recruit a few more members for this year’s group. Plans were to launch a website after completion of the ensemble. The idea being that we would have a bit more media, member interviews ect. to promote the group and incorporate into the website design. This gives us a chance to spend the additional money where it counts...on the ensemble itself. I am a big fan of doing something correctly the first time, or not at all. I think you will like the site when it comes out. It will feature the audio recordings from the season (tentatively set at Paramount Recording Studios or something of similar quality), videos of rehearsals ect. 3rd_Star_Brigade
Hey, isn't Yorba Linda where Richard Nixon was born?
Lukehart
That it is....the Nixon library is quite nice now a days. They recently added a rather large new building. On a random trivia note, the line to view his casket when he passed away was around 3 miles long! crazy stuff...longest line ive ever seen.
