rdbc05
BD and SCV aren't using any Arbans characteristic studies, they both have a few exercises and the auditionee can play a piece of his or her choosing. I know that the Cavaliers are using a characteristic study along with a couple of orchestral excerpts.
Einstein On The Beach
I thought that BD and SCV were using one of the Arban's Characteristic Studies. I would not call those "remarkably simple." They are virtuoso pieces and certainly equal in diffculty to Madison's audition piece. OboeBrad
Vanguard is using a single page of exercises. You pick one of the first two, as well as the last 3. The first two are basically the same, just the first one goes veryyyyyy high. They work on lip slurs and chromatics. The second/third are tounging (sp?) exercises, one with regular tonguing one with staccato. The fourth and fifth are easy little fingering things.
