pearlsnaredrummer77
Back in the 1970s, the Finelyville Royal Crusaders (along with SCV and 27th) went traditional and it ended-up affecting much of Western Pennsylvania. During the 1980s, most of the lines were matched grip including General Butler Vagabonds, Steel City (I think) and Univ of Pittsburgh. Most of the High Schools were strictly matched as well. So being that I was a tenor player in those days, coupled with the lack of traditional grip being taught regionally, I never really got the hang of traditional. I think it looks ok, but since matched for me is the norm it just seems more natural.
RobH
whatever works, man! I was raised and trained/educated in traditional grip, but that doesn't necessarily make the grip the "right" or "only" grip. I say whatever works and makes the snares sound like one drum is the "best" way to go.
