geneseo_bari_87
I watched a video of 87 Cadets yesterday and noticed quite a bit of dirt in their hornline sound. Fracks, balance issues, bad attacks/releases. Kinda surprised me.
Schickmeister
I have thought that as well about Cadets 87...but I think it has more to do with the quality of the recording. You hear some very surprising balance issues with SCV that year as well.
profhill
I think some of you are confusing a mistake with alack of training. A mistake is just an isolated occurance. Most of the items mentioned above are mistakes, nothing more. Nothing that would indicate a lack of training or talent. Even in the best, most exciting performances there are mistakes. When the judges consider who is better, they tend to ingore the mistakes and look at the whole performance to identify the skills that are being shown. A group that has a lower level of training, but is mistake free, will often score below a group that has more mistakes and a higher level of training.
