Attn: Brass Alumni of the Blue Devils and the Vanguard

Recommended Posts

To the alumni of the brass sections of the Concord Blue Devils and the Santa Clara Vanguard.

Let's be honest. We are part of an elite group of people. We marched in one (or two) of the best drum and bugle corps to ever take the field. And, after so many decades of greatness, our corps are still two of the very best that drum corps has to offer.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Vanguard and the 50th anniversary of the Blue Devils. To honor both groups, an ensemble made up of current and former members from both corps will be performing together at events throughout the year to honor the history and future of these two amazing organizations.

Our next performance will be at the Concord Pavilion concert on Sunday, May 6th. Yes, the Concord Pavilion concert is BACK! We will be performing four songs:

• Music of the Night (SCV 1989)

• Free (BD 1978-80, 1987)

• SCV Greatest Hits medley (or If You Believe if medley is not ready)

• Since I Fell For You (BD 1988)

Here’s the schedule for the weekend:

Saturday, May 5th – rehearsal 2-5pm, location TBD, but in the Concord area. We will go out to dinner together afterwards. Maybe we could even talk Doug Peterson into having a party.

Sunday, May 6th – meet at noon at Concord Pavilion. Our performance time has not been set at this time, but the show starts at 2pm and is free to the public. Parking at the Pavilion is $8.

We are rehearsing every Thursday evening from 6:30-9pm at the Santa Clara Vanguard Hall, located at 1795 Space Park Drive in Santa Clara. The rehearsals have been a lot of fun – getting to know the folks from the other corps and years and swapping stories. There are also rehearsals going on in Southern California at Simons Middle School in Pomona. Contact Sam Signorelli at homfencing@hotmail.com for information and schedule.

Here’s what you need to do:

Make your reservation today by sending an email to either alumnicorps@scvanguard.org or alumni50@bluedevils.org. Let us know which performances you will be attending and what part you will be playing. Horns are available, but it would be best if you brought your own. Let us know ASAP if you will need an instrument. You need to sign up by May 6th, as we are ordering our Alumni shirts for the performances.

Music is available online. Download it and practice your parts.

We will have other performances throughout the season, culminating in a massed performance with the combined A corps of the Blue Devils and Vanguard on August 4th at the DCI West Championship at Stanford University.

For more information, visit either corps’ website or talk to one of the group. Rehearsals are open to all former marching members of the Vanguard or Blue Devils, so make your plans to join in honoring and supporting these two amazing corps.

Don’t miss out – who knows if we will ever get an opportunity like this again.
