hurcs04 Posted April 13, 2007 Share Posted April 13, 2007 2003 recaps ....let me see if i remember that was the season .....where grenadiers beat us by a couple of tenths in pre-lims we came in 11th then they called our director to the judges table ...and preceded to tell him that our performance was for not (A JUDGED EXHIBITION) along with skyliners ...but our score ended up beating the 10th place grenadiers.... then i proceeded to loose my mind .... yup ...... It was a year they had the format of Top 12, but only the Top 10 were judged competition, the 11th and 12th place corps were judged exhibition going into finals night. Also IIRC, in the event that a 11th or 12th place corps happened to score higher than a corps in 10th or higher it wasn't to be announced, but again, IIRC I believe they did announce Hurricanes score that night, but still announced them in 11th place. It didn't make for a very nice evening that's for sure. Both Don Dean and the director for the Hurricanes were called to the dug out before the scores were announced to figure out what to do in this situation. From there I don't know what happened because I was hanging around the corps truck, getting ready to go inside and watch some corps. I probably wouldn't want to know went on in the dug out that night anyway. I believe if we rightfully earned 10th place in prelims to make finals then we rightfully remained in 10th place in finals night no matter if the judged exhibition score was higher or not. Was it deserved? Maybe, but I didn't get to see Hurricanes all season because we were on either right before or right after each other. I would like to put Finals weekend 2003 in the back of my mind and not really think about that weekend again. I enjoyed the Pat Metheny show, I loved performing it, we got the crowd rockin' every show...that's all that matters, but it does suck to think about what happened that night.
