What is the title of Phantom Regiment's 1989 show?

Recommended Posts

Quick question on a minor detail. The Legacy Collection DVD liner notes (and the Corpsreps site) indicate that Phantom Regiment's 1989 show was titled "New World Symphony", which was of course also the title of the piece they played. However, the 1989 DCI World Championships CD liner notes lists Phantom's show title as "From the New World ... Into a New Age, Influenced by Antonín Dvořák's New World Symphony" (though the diacritical marks are missing). Which is correct?

Similarly, the CD says Cadets played "Selections from Les Miserables" while the DVD says they played "Les Miserables". The CD says that Freelancers played "The Music of John Williams" but the DVD doesn't list a show title. And the DVD errs regarding Velvet Knights, listing "Yo Mambo" as the title of their show (apparently untitled, like most shows at the time), rather than as their first selection. Accordingly, no composer is credited for "Yo Mambo" on the DVD, which generally lists them. As for most of the other songs on the CD, composers are simply omitted. Corpsreps doesn't identify a composer for "Yo Mambo" either. Does anyone know who the composer is? I found a youtube clip of a high school jazz band playing the same piece in 2009, but no composer is mentioned there. Generally speaking, what is the best resource for finding such information?

Phantom Regiment's website lists their 1989 program as "New World Symphony"

And "Yo Mambo" was composed by Charlie Argersinger.

Thanks, hostrauser!

I wonder why the CD gives a longer title for Phantom's show. (This is the same CD on which the Blue Devils Finals show, or at least their performance of "If We Were in Love", is replaced with an earlier performance because of the missed soprano note.)

As I remember it, the Title of Phantom's show was "From the New World to a New Age."
