chadwick Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 A lot of corps are announcing audition/camp dates for the fall and winter and it got me to thinking if the above two corps have made any plans to return to the field next year? Has anyone heard any updates from these two, or any others that stayed home this year? Quote
ouooga Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Haven't heard about either, but I just noticed that Southwind no longer has a webpage; only an alumni webpage. Not good.... Quote
Rifuarian Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Southwind has sold off its buses, equipment, etc. if I'm not mistaken. RIP. Quote

ouooga Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 I've often thought these two corps should have tried to work together when they both were inactive. Do you think that would help, or would there just be too many cooks in the kitchen? I've never thought of corps joining forces to stay alive, but I guess back in the day that happened all of the time. Quote

I've never thought of corps joining forces to stay alive, but I guess back in the day that happened all of the time. There are plenty of prior instances of corps doing this, and seems like it was pretty common in the "golden age". Whether it works well or not seems depend on the people involved, and how much they're willing to give up. But recruitment was never really a problem for Southwind. Finances killed them. Cap Regiment seems to have been in a situation just as bad (worse, maybe . . . SW didn't have a mid-tour meltdown so far as I know). Merging two financially unstable corps might not be the best idea. BozzlyB Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 With G7 uncertainty in the air and a tough economy it has to be a miserable time to try and bring a corps back from the brink. Quote
Grumpy Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 If I'm not mistaken, Southwind was a part of the Madison Scouts organization at one time. I don't remember if it was during the Scott Stewart era or after. Quote
