  14. Another sad day for East Coast Drum Corps. Only four Div II corps left in the East: Memphis Sound, Spartans, Surf, Teal Sound. I wish ECJ all the best as they try to get back on the field in 08. Good Luck

  17. I disagree. Corps that perform harder shows at a very high level get the credit. Didn't the judges decide to reward corps for their efforts since the beginning of DCI? If I remember correctly, (and believe me I do) pre DCI used a tic system. (.1 came off your score for every mistake you made on the field). Using your theory, a corps can come out and play just whole and half notes very cleanly and win. As far as designing a show around wether you land a sponsor, that doesn't work either. Show design should be written according to talent level of the corps. Not to pick on any corps or their members, but I'll say Crossmen (of which I am an alum) could not perform a show at the same level as any of the top 6, because of the age difference and talent level. So Crossmen designed a show that showed off their talents. And the Crossmen's show was much easier than any of the top 6 shows. Unfortunately it wasn't good enough to make finals. That is just the facts of Drum Corps life. And you can use that example all levels of DCI, DCA and International. BTW, I am one old timer who doesn't mind amps (if only used to properly bring out the sound of the pit, PLEASE no singing) Bb horns (though at one time playing the G horn very well was the difference between drum corps and brass band), and a drill that accentuates the music. These changes did improve the activity.
  18. Spirit of Newark will have their Open House on Saturday December 9 from 12pm to 9pm at the Newark Armory 120 Roseville Ave, Newark NJ 07107 We are going to Pasadena. Because of our tour schedule, we will even have time to spend a day at the Grand Canyon. Directions, full winter schedule and all corps information is on our web page www.spiritofnewark.org See how you can tour with us for a very low cost. If interested, email Bigelow1@comcast.net for any additional info.
  19. I was told that there would be two tours set up to Pasadena. One from Washington to Pasadena and the other would be Phoenix to Pasadena. More shows to be had on the Washington tour. I think they are looking to see if there are enough corps coming to book the shows. I also agree that there will probably be no penalty for saying yes now and then dropping out later. All I know is our corps is planning on coming out.
  20. Its a shame that James has to apologize for a fellow corps member. He is a very classy person and never has a bad thing to say about anybody or any other corps. Its a shame that some of the other members of his corps does not follow his lead.
  21. Tuesday should be lots of fun and should be a great show all day long. Yes, you have the top 3-4 in Div 3 battling it out, but also look at the other spots in the top 9 and you will see several great battles throughout. Then the corps battling just below the top 9 should be good also. A lot of great and entertaining shows this year. Not to mention in Div 2 the .15 difference between Academy and Spartans. WOW. With ECJ and OC just behind that! Yes, Tuesday will be lots of fun with a lot of entertaining shows and good competiton. This year is probably the most entertaining in the past few.
  22. DIVISION I 1 Phantom Regiment 93.450 2 Boston Crusaders 87.550 3 Southwind 75.900 4 Seattle Cascades 74.700 5 The Magic 73.200 6 Pioneer 69.450 DIVISION II 1 Spartans 85.950 DIVISION III 1 Capital Sound 62.250 Last show on 7/29 in Racine they got a 69.4. Almost a 7 pt drop Did anyone see the show? Otherwise, scores are very predictable.
  23. Any DCA corps that needs busses for DCA Championships, Spirit of Newark NJ has 2 touring busses for rent. For more info, please call Glen Eng at 908-925-1172 or 908-868-4723.
  24. Absolutely was a great show. The crowd was very appreciative of every single corps, as they are every year. The show ran extremely well (as always) and no rain. (Seems like quite a few shows have been rained out this year). All in all, it was a great night. First of all, congratulations to Raiders and Spartans. Both seem poised and ready for the competiton from the West Coast. (I would also add Citation to that group). Big jumps this week for a couple of the Div 3 corps. Vision Elite - from a 48.05 in Wildwood to a 58.35. BTW - A great performance. My first time watching. Earth Wind and Fire really works for them. A fun show to listen to and a nice drum solo. Very nice job VE. Spirit of Newark NJ - from a 43.35 in Wildwood to a 52.7 I am associated with this corps so anything I say would be bias. But a nice showing from the kids. Their hard work this past week paid off. Blue Saints - Only saw their last number from the side. A very nice crowd response as they came off the field though. But WOW, 20 pt jump in two weeks. I saw St Johns in the parking lot. They seem to have grown a little but also seem to have a young corps this year. Since this is only their second show of the year, the judges tapes should be very helpful to them. With Citation slowly closing the gap between themselves and Raiders - Targets and 7th Regiments scores steadily rising, all the west coast corps coming to Madison, Div 2 -3 prelims should be a great show. I know I am looking forward to watching it. Good luck to ALL the corps as they make the journey to Madison.
  25. Spirit of New Jersey want to thank Citations for allowing us to use their pit equipment and to East Coast Jazz and Jersey Surf for offereing, as our truck broke down on the way to Wildwood and arrived 15min before stepoff. java script:emoticon('',%20'smid_12')java script:emoticon('',%20'smid_12')java script:emoticon('',%20'smid_12')
