  1. PR playing The Fire of Eternal Glory from 1993. One of my favorite pieces from the PR repertoire.
  2. Or A Chorus Line directed by Academy Award winner Richard Attenborough, which had a very different result from his Gandhi.
  3. To get back to the casting discussions from a few months back, one thing that many seem to forget is that the whole Hollywood film-making enterprise is a business, with the primary purpose of making money. While the the theater-loving community would absolutely buy tickets to see a film version of WSS or any other Broadway musical with true theate actors, the general populace would not. This is the reason why Natalie Wood was cast in the original. She was a box office draw. Same with Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady and any number of other movie musicals, whether in the golden age or today. This is why we got Russel Crowe in Les Miserables. Sometimes casting directors hit the sweet spot of star quality and musical theater talent (Catherine Zeta Jones, Hugh Jackman) but sometimes you get Pierce Brosnan. If this project happens, let's pray for wisdom on the producers' and directors' parts and lots of well-known, talented 20-somethings who can sing and dance.
  4. Ugh, Sox and Reds 8-8 in the 10th. I think it's amusing that when no one's at a show we talk baseball.
  5. Mine too. I hope I can stay awake till the end.
  6. I'd read a lot of less-than-favorable opinions about Academy's show, but I quite enjoyed it. I love a good School for Scandal.
  7. If the singing contributes to the GE score then it is judged, isn't it?
  8. I'm impressed with this whole Gold package. Nice job.
  9. Interesting thought. An unknown variable, are there the same number of trumpet players as snares and is their talent level up and down the ranks equivalent? Is snare#200 more or less talented than trumpet #200?
  10. I've never seen any of the Open Class corps from CA. This is exciting.
  11. Does every corps from CA have a strong drumline? Is that a thing?
  12. Actually rained out the last two years, so this year is a lucky break for the campers (and everyone else). This is the 8th year I've gotten tickets for this show and they've gone unused half the time. Unfortunately I can't make it this year, but glad the show is happening, for a change. For anyone attending, have a great time. That stadium is a wonderful venue. It has a very steep rake, so sightlines are outstanding and everyone is close to the field. And the BOA campers (students and directors/staff) are the best audience.
  13. Although the show has moved from Fairfield to Hamilton and now, Mason, it's still presented by the Fairfield High School Band.
  14. I like Phantom's show, but do you know what it needs? HELMETS!
  15. Very impressed with Crossmen's brass handling those technical passsages.
  16. That's too bad. It's been at Hamilton High School the last couple of years, which is quite nice.
  17. The home stands face west?? That's messed up.
  18. Hope everyone who's attending tonight has a great time. Alas, I will not be there this year, for the first time in several years. I recently broke my ankle and am still on crutches, which are not very convenient for navigating high school football stadiums. Also, it's my right ankle, so no driving for a while. I will be thinking of you all. I'm sure it'll be a great show. Good luck to all the corps! Please provide reviews and pics, for those less fortunate (cue the sympathetic responses. )
