  1. Yes, you did... (Grin) I never said I didn't like it; just implied that I wouldn't spend the $$ on the CD - nor would I necesssarily buy the DVD, as I don't usually have time to watch more than I do to listen... (Watching on even a wide-screen High-Def TV is a pale comparison to sitting in the stadium.) A good quality audio player beats TV every time, IMO... Not if you're trying to get the Customer to buy the Product... You could make the absolute best Buggy Whips in the entire civilized world, but... Well, again I'm more mobile than some, and don't have the time (or frankly, the inclination) to watch a show online. (Poor cousin, visually) I prefer to take my corps with me! (grin) I grew up on LPs, 8-tracks and cassettes. I have always enjoyed listening more than watching. The sound of say, 1976 Blue Devils or 1980 Spirit or 1996 Madison - or 2000 SCV! - in headphones just can't be equaled by anything I've heard the past few years. It's the charts, I guess... Again, just One man's Opinion...
  2. There were 12 Finalists in '72-'74, 11 in '86, 12 in '92, 13 in '93, 12 in 2002 etc. They all received Finals scores... It appears that only in '03 were the 11th and 12th corps "judged exhibition"... (That's why I originally thought ALs)
  3. Well, I wouldn't call a preference for audio over video, "the problem with some audience members". It's just a preference - not a "problem"... I want to be able to, maybe years later, put in a CD or turn on my mp3 player, put on some headphones and re-live (or experience for the first time) a particular performance or corps while driving. You can't do that when the audio is only there to support the visual. I guess I'm looking at this from a more Historical perspective: I want to be able to enjoy the corps years after they perform - even if I can't see them... But hey, I'm a radio guy! Heh...
  4. Well, I wouldn't call a preference for audio over video "the problem with some audience members". It's just a preference - not a "problem"... It doesn't mean watching a live performance is inferior, but re-living the performance at home yea I don't see wanting to be able to, maybe years later, put in a CD or turn on an mp3 player, put on some headphones and re-live (or experience for the first time) a particular performance while driving a "problem". When the visual is stressed over the audio it becomes rather difficult to get the same experience weeks or months or years later without a DVD/mpg player - and taking their eyes off the road! (Grin) For example, while I am a huge fan of the Cavies' outstanding drills oveer the years, but I can't watch them in the car and listening is futile... I guess I'm looking at this from a more Historical perspective... Plus I'm a Radio guy! Heh...
  5. Well, I did! (Junior and Senior) Like wine and cheese, some things mellow with age... Heh...
  6. Not always true... For reference, I marched in the mid-60s through 1971, both junior and senior. I fell in love with Drum Corps in 1965 when I saw the seniors in Aquinas Stadium: Sky, Hurcs, Bucs, Cru, Cabs, etc. And I was awed by St. Joes, Magnificent Yankees, Blessed Sac, Vinnies, Garfield, Boston et al... Having said that: My personal "Golden Age" of junior corps was the 80s/90s. (We played the 1981 DCI World Championships two weekends ago on Diceman Radio - there wasn't a "Hot Dog Corps" anywhere...) And 1996 and 2000 are in my Top 5 Favorite DCI years ever... To me, the CDs are more important than the DVDs - the music is more important than the drill - no matter what decade. To that end, the past few years of DCI have.. not impressed overall... (Shrug)
  7. Of course no AL sponsorship would have made Grennies an Exhibition Corps as well - or did they have one? Now I have NO idea why Hurcs and Sky exhibited! Heh...
  8. Actually, Sun and Heat Wave performed as the Class A Prelims Champ and Runner Up... The "exhibitions" were Hurcs and Sky (forget why exactly; maybe no AL sponsorship? DCAs were also AL Championships in Scranton...) And I think '03 was the last year of a "Top 12" Finals...

  10. What year did Butch go to Brigs? (I never heard the official reason why he went, although I'm told there's a story there...)
  11. I'm just bummed that the power went out during Cru. (My UPS lasted about 5 minutes; typical for a UPS with the "strain" I put on it...) 1972 was another GREAT DCA Finals, IMO. Not one "weak" show anywhere in the entire Top 12. (Man, I wish Cabs Alumni would do Saber Dance! I LOVE that arrangement!) BTW, tomorrow at 10:00am EDT we're doing the 1981 DCI Finals from Montreal. Oughta be fun...

  14. Once again: "It's All Ron's Faultâ„¢" The "Active" checkbox wasn't checked (or somehow became unchecked) in the corpsreps database. (The new overhaul of the website makes the status more prominent than before.) I fixed it. So move along... nothing to see here... Heh...
  15. To make it easier on my aging fingers, the weekly "Sunday Live Show" will be announced primarily on our main webpage from now on. (We *might* get around to announcing elsewhere, but the webpage is your best bet.) So check out: http://diceman-radio.com each week to see what we're broadcasting on Sundays... (We usually update between Tuesday and Thursday) And join in the Forums while you're there! (We'll be updating them as well over the next couple weeks.) Again, this week is: The 1987 DCI World Championship Thanks,

  24. From corpsreps: "The Jolly Jesters was a senior marching and maneuvering drum corps based in Toronto, Ontario. The corps was founded by Ted Reilly in 1957. World Drum Corps Hall of Famer Vince Macciocchi came on board in 1960. The corps grew out of the Fifth Column Army Service Corps. In 1956 this group was invited to participate in a four-week competition sponsored by the Toronto Argonaut Football Club. To avoid conflict with union and army regulations, the corps rented clown costumes for this appearance and adopted the name "Jolly Jesters." To their surprise, the name/costume and show caught on. The corps decided that they would appear the following year in the clown uniforms. In 1957 the corps appeared in red and white satin clown uniforms, but the drum major/director Ted Riley dressed as a comical tramp. In 1960, however, the corps moved on from the clown motif and donned dress blues. The corps' name changed to "The Jesters" at that time. The Jesters merged with the Viscounts of Hamilton to form the Canadian Commanders in 1963."
