  1. Unfortunately it is true. I recieved the results of our evaluation late yesterday afternoon. There were various reasons sited as to why the organization did not pass the evaluation. We will be making a full press relaese later today with complete details.
  2. That is correct. Though we may have had some camps with low attendance, we do have the numbers. Things are coming together nicely. Our evaluation was postponed until the weekend of the 28th - 30th. It was postponed because there were a lot of school related activities going the same weekend, as originally scheduled. Look for some very interesting announcements in the next couple of days. Thanks for all the support.
  3. The only way Jubal or any other visiting corps can actually compete in Div. II/III Championships is if they follow all DCI rules. This would mean that most European corps would lose most of their members because of age. Most visiting corps are allowed to compete as a II/III corps at other shows. But hey, don't quote me on this.
  4. The 2006 Americanos still have some spots available. Below is list of filled and open spots. Trumpets, filled- 5, open- 5 Mellos, filled- 4, open- 1 Baritones, filled- 6, open- 2 Tubas, filled- 5, open- 0 Snares, filled- 4, open- 1 Tenors, filled- 2, open- 1 Bass, filled- 3, open- 2 Pit, filled- 5, open- 4 Guard, filled- 6, open- 6 DM, filled- 1, open- 0
  5. If a corps is denied access to the DCI schedule there are no chances for competiting. The only option available would be a lot of parades.
  6. I will be working with Drum Corps International to make this happen at our March camp, scheduled for the weekend of the 24 - 26. VIVA!!!
  7. As far as size goes, we'll take what we get. Be it 30 or 100, I don't care. As for our program check my post in the Announcement Forum. Some pretty cool stuff. Our second camp is coming up on the 20th, we will once again be at Romeoville High School in Romeoville, Illinois. VIVA!!
  8. This is getting stupid. Guitarman, I apologize if my "PM" offended you. Thank you for your support of the Americanos.
  9. bari benzo, I think you read my mind. Those are two of the four or five pictures that I am using to create the new look for the corps. I just wish I was more of an artist. Music and Charcter, Thank you for those kind words. I thought that my final season with Tarheel Sun was a challenge. It was a cake walk compared to rebuildng a corps. How are things shaping up in Evansville. Take care and we'll see everyone this summer. VIVA!!!
  10. Since so many of you are interested in how things are shaping up for the 2006 Americanos I guess I'll just let the cat out of the bag. It seems our "poster boy" has stirred things up abit. As far as recruiting goes I can honestly say that I have never see so many marching bands in my life. I personally attended the state championships for Wisconsin and Michigan, as well as the BOA Grand Nationals. I also had staff members at the Illinois championships. The response from the music students at all of these competitions was unbelievable. I also made a trip to Eastern Tennessee, the home of our new Brass Caption Head. Over a three day period I was able to sign-up over 70 potential members. The day after each of these recruiting trips our website recieved a staggering number of hits. And to this day we are still getting 3 - 4 new people registering each day. And no they aren't all drummers. Now I know that not everyone that signs -up will march but the response has been simply incredible. While taking trips out to various competitions on the weekends I have spent most of my weekdays visiting schools around the area. Keith Gee, the original director for Capital Sound, spoke to me once about what he concluded from his recruiting efforts. Keith said that for every 100 students you talk to you might get 10 that will show some interest. Out of that 10 you might get 3 to actually come to a camp. And out of those 3 that come to a camp 1 will march the season. Now everyone can see just how difficult it is to recruit for a Div. II/II corps. Thankfully though I am not the only person with the Americanos that is out there recruiting. I really have to give props to my staff. They are the ones that have really done the tough job. The only staff that is returning from the '05 staff is part of my percussion staff. Everyone else is new to the organization but not new to drum corps or the marching arts. My four caption heads have a combined 60 years of experience in the activity (approximately). They are the ones that have talked to kids until there are blue in the face. I am also very fortunate to know a number of Band Directors and marching band instructors from all over the country who know what is possible with my staff and have steered some of their students our way. And lastly let us not forget those members from previous years of the corps that are returning and bringing their friends. I won't make any predictions of Division or even corps size I'll just let the cards fall where they will. The organization of course still needs to go through an evaluation by DCI before we can compete. I have really put it to my Board to make sure that they are doing their part and so far I have no complaints. We are going to have a new look this season. If you want to imagine what it will look like find a picture of the Americanos from the 1970's and then imagine it with a more modern look. I would love to hear some suggestions. Check out our program description that I posted in the "Announcement Forum" I hope you will enjoy it. VIVA!!!
  11. The staff for the Americanos drum & bugle corps is pleased to announce the corps’ 2006 program. Continuing with the organization’s season long 70th Anniversary celebration this year’s program is entitled, quite simply, “Fiesta.” The program begins with the very solemn but yet extremely exciting “Ritual,” by German composer Lalo Schifrin. “Ritual” is the 5th movement of Schifrin’s “Latin Jazz Suite.” “Ritual,” described by Schifrin, “is a tribute to the African roots of Latin Jazz.” Schifrin adds “the different textures and dynamics, of this piece, allow for a mythical counterpoint of excitement and solemnity.” Following this unique tribute to the roots of Latin jazz the corps’ percussion section takes control of the celebration with an unrecorded arrangement by Grammy award winner Angel Melendez. With just a brief opening by the Americanos brass line “Panamonk” allows the Americanos percussion section to do what they love most. “Panamonk” is tentatively scheduled to be recorded by Melendez and the Chicago based 911 Mambo Orchestra in the spring of 2006. If you love Latin percussion then hang on to your hats as the Americanos Percussion section brings out all the bells and whistles. At this point in the program the celebration takes a trip back in time and dips into the Americanos archives. Providing all of us drum corps fanatics with something special the corps presents a special arrangement of Ernesto Lecuona’s, “Malaguena.” The Americanos performed this perennial drum corps favorite in 1981. Not trying to out shine any of drum corps’ finest, the corps uses “Malaguena” as the calm before the storm, so to speak. Bringing this nightly “Fiesta” to its fever pitched conclusion the staff of the Americanos has chosen “Mambo Herd” by legendary Latin percussionist Tito Puente. This piece encompasses everything that is exciting about Latin Jazz. From the stratospheric trumpet licks to the driving percussive pulse of the mambo, “Mambo Herd” is sure to deliver it all and so very much more. The 2006 Americanos staff hopes that you will enjoy this year’s program and encourages you to dance like nobody’s watching. Viva Los Americanos.

  14. I just learned this morning that band director Doug Greenhall instructed the Americanos. His daughter, the mother of the eleven year old, marched with us and the Blue Stars. On behalf of the entire Americanos organization, our condolences and prayers to all affected. May God welcome those who perished, into his kingdom with open arms.
