  1. give it a listen! B) It waaay above 200.
  2. 2004 Blue Devils during the drum feature the tempo reached near 260bpm for a short while. Otherwise, for sustained tempos the top corps usually do stuff at over 200 at some point in their shows.
  3. hahah, you have no idea. I dont think you really pay much attention to the BD contra lines if you are willing to say such things. How silly! In fact, I know you dont pay much attention to that section if you say such things. Take a closer look. b**bs
  4. either a bad joke or you dont know....but just for the record, its "bad ###", not "fat ###". ------------ to me, emotion is when hornlines play so loud that the instrument goes out of tune and has a really bad tone! thats obviously emotion.
  5. I just aged out of a top Div 1 corps....and plain and simple.....time and money issues aside, I wont be marching senior corps because it just wouldnt be the same. I want my corps memories and experiences to be as they were when I marched DCI. I only marched three years and I want so bad to just have one more. Im not burned out on DCI, but Im the sort of person who enjoys performing with the best of the best, and to be perfectly honest, I feel that there isnt any DCA corps that can compare to what Ive fortunately and gratefully been able to experience. I do recognize that there are some very talented and excellent performing DCA corps around the country, its just not at the level I'd like to remain at. Does that sound egotistical or elitist? Probably, but Im just being honest with myself and anyone reading this.
  6. Hmm..my understanding was that the original tempo was 200, but knocked down to 190 because it was too difficult. This I heard from marching members first hand, who happen to be good friends of mine. I wont knock the difficulty of the drill...very demanding indeed.
  7. hah, ok Oh, I dunno, maybe BD's track record is a good way to measure them...sounds crazy, I know! They have not been nearly as consistent year to year as BD. Check corpsreps.com if you need proof. Oh geeze, what are you talking about now? Dont put words in my mouth. I found your post about your "status quo" consipiracy theory funny and everyones apparent need to keep the top 4 as is, funny. Not this stuff (see quote) Uh, ok....read again please....show me where I said the corps out of the top 4 can't succeed higher and I'll let you say "I told you so" to me allllll you want! Wow. This made me laugh too! b**bs but annnyyways......to remain partially on topic, corps that are on the cusp of breaking into the territory of the top 4 are still lacking just a little bit in show design, performance scores, and GE to get any higher. So, do those things better!
  8. Cadets 2000 Most any contra line from BD Recent cavalier contra lines are pretty darn good. IMHO....PR 03 has got to be one of the worst sounding tuba lines Ive ever heard......such overblowing from that section in 03 produced some really ragged sounds.
  9. this post was obviously spurred by my comment.....I just have to laugh....do you really think that BD 05 is something more than an off year? Im not sure at all that Ive seen this strong desire to keep this 'status quo' you conjured up. If anything, Id say its been strongly the exact polar opposite. In fact, I dont think Ive ever seen anyone say such things that you claim. Ive said it before and I'll say it again....lower corps are getting better! b**bs b**bs b**bs, but it would have meant more if the Bluecoats had crept on the Blue Devils had BD scored where they usually do....in the 97.0-98.0 range.....not in the 95.0's. Im not trying to take away from Bluecoats as they were fantastic, Im merely taking time out of our awfully important lives to make a point. and anyways.....I was commenting on the BC vs. BD statement you made! This is silly
  10. You stress how close BC was to BD this year......which is obviously good for BC....however, how often does BD have a finals score in the 95's? Not often enough for BD to sweat anything over BC. Bluecoats are definately getting better....but one off year for BD makes them look like they were even better still....dont forget that.
  11. interpret "loudest of 05' as you will, just please dont let this turn into another G vs Bb debate, mmkay?
  12. So, I dont think Ive seen this topic yet for 2005 season, so humor me if it has already been done.....anyways.... Which hornlines this year blew you backwards a few rows with their power? Pretty simple question I think.... For me Id say Blue Devils and Phantom Regiment were putting out the most sound by far. BD's show aside, their sheer volume I thought was impressive. Big fat sound.
  13. c'mon guys, its obviously Battletoads vs. Double Dragon
  14. Phantom...I believe Jayzer is referring to winning the Visual Caption award for having the highest average score for all 3 nights.....not who won finals night only. In which case the results differ. And I would trust jayzer on this one......
  15. Wow...um ok...I didnt think you would take that literally....anyways..... well, for our convenience, here is the original comparison: So, as you can see from Phantoms quote, the issue still is 'which is more noticeable?' Im not sure where the confusion comes from. Ya know, the funny thing is...is that i can say that EXACT same thing to you in regards to understanding the form system. Kinda ironic. Do followers jump off the cliff occasionally? Of course...but for future reference, understand that ive been basing my arguments off of good drum corps, not anything else less than that. At least now you admit or acknowledge that, as I have previously mentined in earlier posts....that the better corps will indeed let the tick'er go off by himself and guide through the error. Still what ive been saying. oook....going in circles now....see above.... Dont worry, Im not worked up in the least. And regarding your so-called original comparison...refer a couple of quotes up if youd like. I hope you're not upset. Im not.
  16. Now you're just making things up. Never once did I mention which error is most noticeable. You sure nailed when you said an error is an error. But I never argued against that point. I said, and will continue to say, that a correctly formed shape in 'form' marching will look better than a 'dot' form with an out of place marcher, regardless of the placement on the field of the 'form' image. FORGET everything abuot the location of the 'form' image. thats irrelavent. you're still arguing abuot soething that wasnt brought up. Arguing the wrong argument. And when did we bring in more than one arc? The issue is still a 'dot' arc vs. a 'form' arc. Dot marchers will not respond to the surroundings like form marchers will. It doesnt matter where the 'form' arc ended up, but that people are cooperating and see errors occur and will respond accordingly. Ultimately, Im not sure why you're picking a fight that doesnt exist..... yes, you are right on the money! you nailed it! Though that first sentence you wrote is completly out of the blue..... G-Cym, Omello1, both of you at some point in this thread continue to say that in a 'form only' group, that an image will be ruined because one person is out of the form and everyone else robotically follows. Are you serious!?!? Understand that the corps that use form marching ALSO pound into the members heads that if one person is blowing the form that you DONT follow that one person! Thats just silly to assume that everyone would robotically follow no matter what happens. It doesnt work that way. If 'form' marching was a computer program, and we were all robots, then yes, the one bug (out of form marcher) in the program would cause all the other robots behind to follow suit. Thankfully Joe wont 'jump off the bridge' just because the guy in front of him did. Thats rather naive. I love how people think that "youve nailed it!!!" when they agree with you. hah! b**bs I have a hard time with this one considering who the team is that has a long long history for excellent marching
  17. Of course thats the assumption. Its assuming the form arc looks better because the marchers are looking at eachother and correcting the form in real time. And its assuming the dot arc looks worse because the marchers are ignoring any errors made by the people around them. Irrelevant. Field placement error has no affect on one's ability to dress to the form. We're talking about the quality of the arc that is made, not the location that it was made. see above so should you! see the 2nd quote and its response.
  18. It may surprise you to know that a certain blue team that wins a lot uses this method. Call up the visual staff there and tell them to get with the times! Knowing your dot and knowing your spacing go hand in hand, but even if you dont know your exact dot but do know your spacing relative to your neighbors front to back and side to side, you'd also be surprised at how well the form can be created when talented and intelligent marchers are employed. Would this work for less experienced and less talented groups? no. Smart and experienced ones? It can and has been done.
  19. OMell1, you responded to Phantom&Phitch but ingored his argument. A well formed arc that is in a slightly different place on the field than what was written is going to look better than an arc that was created by 'dot' marchers and has one or two people stick out. I dont see your logic unless maybe you hand the judges your drill charts before a show.....
  20. oh dont be silly....the good corps that utilize form over dot also preach that if one person is wrong, you let him be wrong by himself and dress through the error!

  22. Ive seen the 99-03 jacket worn with the pin stripe pants. it looks gooooooooooooooooood.
  23. there are two different 4 valve tuba models available from dynasty. A 4/4 sized horn: and a 5/4 sized horn: the larger horn (5/4) is the horn that the Blue Devils use. I have much experience on this horn and can tell you that it produces a big and full sound and if you have decent chops, it can be played to very high volume levels without losing tone or intonation. The smaller dynasty horn does not sound nearly as good as the bigger horn. The 5/4 horn is essentially a Wilson tuba w/ a dynasty stamp on the bell, which helps to explain the better quality of sound over the 4/4 horn. I dont know too much about the 4/4 horn, however, from playing both, I can say that the physical design of the plumbing on the 5/4 horn is much more ergonomic and has a much better weight distribution than the 4/4 horn. Significantly better in fact. The excellent comfort of the 5/4 horn and its IMO excellent sound production far surpass the weight penalty of this big horn. The 4/4 horns issues reside in the fact that I believe it to be a true Dynasty design (as opposed to the much better 5/4 horn being essentially a Wilson tuba). Someone else may be able to clarify. As far as the yamaha horn goes, I'll admit I have about 10minutes of experience on this horn. I was pleased with the quality of sound, but in my brief sample of the horn, it felt much more difficult to maintain a broad sound at louder dynamics. However the yamaha has a huge weight advantage over the Dynasty tubas being that it is 6lbs lighter than the 4/4 horn (24lbs) and 11lbs lighter than the 5/4 horn (29lbs). Never played the King model, only slung it up on my shoulder. It did not feel comfortable at all. But thats partly because it was foreign to me. But I still didnt think it matched the 5/4 Dynasty's comfort. Every person I asked who was on a King tuba line really didnt care for the horns physical charecteristics (i.e. weight, balance, durability), but did give good marks for playing qualities. I dont know if this has already been discussed, but from what Ive heard through reliable sources, is that King is at work on a new marching tuba that is designed to closely resemble the old King K-90 bugle. Not a bad idea!
  24. actually, much of BD's music was period. And for reference, the "Dynamite Sprint" portion was the only original piece in the show. Also consider, that a dance derby has many songs played throughout. But I guess that wouldnt be thematically cohesive then to match that idea, would it? Go figure.
  25. What the members think of DCI and the judging community and what the members think of their own show are complete and polar opposites. YOU obviously didnt catch that or you conveniently spoke to the minority.
