  1. Oh man this is sweet! I hope and pray that I will finally get to buy the DVD's (they are a different format over here). Just the idea of being able to get CD's, DVD's and the lot and not having to wait for months on end is making me giddy!!
  2. Do we know whether or not they will be coming to the UK?
  3. Too easy. 1987 SCV. They kept those lads caged up and threw raw meat at 'em once or twice a day!
  4. So now that the DCUK season has ended, what do you do to occupy your time before next season starts up agai? Is it Tenerife or Ibiza? Is it winterguard? Is it work and the pub with your mates? Just curious.
  5. I imagine that it will happen again soon, but as you can imagine, it is VERY cost prohibitive..... Money makes the world go round....
  6. Of course you are always welcome to participate. As you can imagine, there is much more work to be done than the moderators could EVER hope to accomplish....
  7. A little something I have found.... The Royal Kilties Soka Renaissance Tokyo Phoenix Yokohama Scouts The thing that strikes me here is the look of quality from these groups and also the relatively large size of the groups. These are just a small sample of pics that I have found by doing a google search, but I find them very impressive. Also, I really like the uniforms oaf all the groups but especially those of Soka Renaissance. Think they would look much better with black shakos instead of white though! Can cd's or dvd's of any of these groups be found and if so where? I would buy!
  8. Sounds very interesting. Looks like Japan has a large number of performing groups. What are they like. What kind of music do the perform etc etc... I have had very little exposure to drum corps in Asia so anything you can add would be great reading! ^0^
  9. Even Jake is welcome here as long as he behaves ^0^ By the way, welcome to The Planet!

  11. I would say that the best comparison for DCUK corps is that they are very much like Division III DCI corps in size. The level of the corps range all over the spectrum, but I would say that Southern Aurora, Encore, Cadence and the rest of the top 4 or 5 at DCUK would represent themselves well at the DCI Division III Championships. The tour is much like that of the Garden State Circuit in that it is a primarily weekend activity over here. Very entertaining and a lot of fun to watch.
  12. So I am noticing that this forum is starting off a bit slow. I figured I would try to "steer" a discussion by asking what you would like to know about the activity outside the USA. After all, the "I" in DCI does stand for international. Who's hot and who's not in the UK. What about the senior scene in Europe. What do they do on the sub-continent? How about asia. One thing that is neat about music is that it IS truely the worlds language. So rack your brains and ask away. I may not know the answers myself, but I will certainly do my best to find out for you.
  13. Welcome to The Planet Rockett! Nice to see that you feel the same as the rest of us!!
  14. That would be absolutely spot on. Perhaps it is time for Jill and the gang at DCUK to give it serious thought. I think that seeing Southern Aurora, Beatrix, Cadence, Jubal and Encore at the same show would be incredible. Put the European Championships in the new Manchester City Stadium and the party is on!
  15. "I believe the children are the future.... Teach them well and let them show the way.... Show them all the beauty they posess inside...."
  16. Thats great news! I am hoping that DCP's membership will help support international corps much in the same way that we have helped pump up Divisions II and III. Let us not forget what the "I" in DCI stands for. Yamato are an absolute kick to watch and to see them perform it is easy to forget that this is a pretty new group to the DCI scene. Let me know where I can contribute and hopefully we can get the ball rolling!
  17. Thanks George! Bear with me, I am kinda new at this whole discussion steering thing.
  18. Congratulations to Southern Aurora on winning the 2002 DCUK Championship. The finals were held 2 weeks ago and the results for those of you who are interested were as follows.... 1.....Southern Aurora 94.6 2.....Senators 93.4 3.....Encore 91.6 4.....Cadence 89.3 5.....Kidsgrove Scouts 88.1 6.....37th Kingswood 79.5 7.....Forgemen 79.2 8.....Black Knights 77.5
  19. Indoor drum corps is very popular in Holland, Scandanavia and Germany. If you go to the Drum Corps Holland website, you can get more info....
  20. You cant take this one too seriously folks... If you are gonna come on here and slag off your fellow corps members, at least have the GUTS and INTEGRITY to sign your name to the post. Like my Freelancer brother Clint said, I hope for your sake you NEVER drop. Dont throw stones if you are living in a glass house!!
  21. Being that it is only June, THANK GOD that the season doesnt start in May. Could you imagine what he would have said then?

Posted by John Lythe on June 11, 2002 at 11:12:35: Well, here's my very brief thoughts on an excellent first show of the season. Sorry I only got to see open class, but i heard good reports form all the other classes as well... anyway... a tiny snippet of my thoughts on the corps. staffs knights - good show idea, sorry, pink just doesn't do it for me though. brass and percssion seem to struggle on open class range. guard scores in single figures definately accounted for the low score. i think they will improve on this. BK - great start, will be interesting to see how they match magic and forgemen in 2 weeks. brass sound more mature than they are and you can see they have had a good visual program over the winter to improve marching 6th hove - very very strong start to the show. another good product. they will be pushing for a finals spot deffo. some exciting horn work will benefit from a bit more control. encore - promising show. will they catch cadence and kidsgrove??? maybe. looked rough in places. big tear in the ballad (is the ballad too looooooong?) solid in all sections, although the drum line look out of their depth compared to the top 3 or 4. mark pirie should clean them up so i expect them to push to top 4 later on. cadence - nice show. like the 'wave work' visually at the start. bigger drum line than recent years, but not as quality as the top 2 today. horns seem a bit smaller, but had some very good moments. I think they will grow a lot this season, but will be pushed hard, especially early on, by encore and kidsgrove. SA - first win in the first half of the season. They look solid again. Strong in all sections with the guard finally putting in to the level of the musicians. Nice horn sound and drums still look good. An exciting, entertaining show and I think they will fancy it this year. Sens - I've never seen a corps so 'polished' this early. Very strong in all sections, with the horns and drums the strongest I've seen for a few years from east leigh. Good horn sound from the off, very excited show. It's between Brighton and Eastleigh I think. To be honest I was surprised SA took today (although they were good!) I honestly think it's because the judges didn't like the way Sens have done something a bit different with their drill... lots of 2 pace intervals (that means 1 pace pass throughs which they do very well, scary!) i guess the judges just didn't like it. It's a shame that something NEW and ORIGINAL seems to get punished because otherwise their show was hot. It'll be interesting to see if Senators change their visual book to please the judges, because I honestly think that will decide the final outcome, if they open it up to get the marks, i think they will move up a lot. I'm just a bit gutted that something a bit different still isn't credited. Maybe they are getting ready for INDOOR drum corps in a couple of years?!??! What do you think?
  23. Wow. I would like to name a list, but one stands out above the rest for me. Jon Zimny. Jon was the brass Caption head for the Freelancers. I stayed at the Freelancers because of him (after trying out and making BDs line in 92). I remember my rookie year. Casper WY. I was a pretty scrawny kid that year and I was playing euphonium. I had a bunch of problems in my home life and never really had someone take a special interest in me. I couldnt hold up my horn, I couldnt march and I could just barely play. At Casper, I had enough of being yelled at and screwing up all the time. I walked out of rehersal, went to the gym and packed up my stuff. I was quitting the corps. Jon came up to me and asked what I was doing and I told him I was tired of bringing the corps down and that I was done. Told him I was quitting. He looked at me in that special 'Oh Yeah??' way of his. He then calmly slammed me up against a locker and got about 1/2 inch from my face and very calmly said..."CJ, you will BE a Freelancer by the end of this season, or one of us will die trying!! Now get your ### back out to rehersal!! Quitting?? I think not." He took a special interest in me from that moment on and I never looked back. I aged out as a Freelancer 6 years later and I became the man I am today because of that one special moment in Casper. If you are reading this Jon, thank you.
  24. Check out the contra rif in 89 Freelancers coming out of the drum break. Wouldnt say it is the "toughest ever", but it was still pretty ########!!
  25. That was mine, not JAZ's thankyouverymuch ;) One of two "made you look for french horns" rips I put into that show. And yes that Bells lick is my favorite that I personally have played :D My apologies John. I am a bit slow on the uptake these days (you know, getting old and all that stuff). I must give credit where credit is due. Begging your forgiveness Sir....
