  1. Thanks Tony! It's gonna be a lot of fun! Looking forward to seeing both of you, also!
  2. That IS a fantastic line-up, Robbie! The Bridgemen are really looking forward to our very first appearance at the Dixie Stinger, and our first performance below the Mason-Dixon Line in more than twenty years! And, by the way... It will be an honor to follow the Yankee Rebels on stage! See you there, folks! ...Jimmy J
  3. I didn't think that. George, and Chris Z know it, too! Of course, Rick and I are the only ones old enough to have done the "real" bump, back in the 70's! Great song from back in the pre-disco era... "Aint gonna Bump No More, With No Big Fat Wo-man" Oh yeah... Come to Bayonne, and play great music, and do great guard work!
  4. Hey everybody! Giving this one last shot...I believe that we are closing our ranks, after this weekend. We presently have over 120 members! So, it's March 18th, (Happy 91st birthday (in Heaven), Mom! LOVE YOU!), and the Bridgemen are doing really, REALLY well!!! We've got a great show, and our best corps, since we've gotten back together! We still have a few openings that we're trying to fill, so if you're still interested in doing drum corps, but on a very limited schedule, (and budget), come down to Bayonne on March 21st, and see for yourself! We'll be rehearsing from 12 noon, until 6 pm, and then we have a St. Patty's Day Parade on Sunday, March 22nd. We'll be rehearsing at St. Andrew's Church, 4th & Broadway, Bayonne, NJ 07002. We currently have openings in our snare line, contra section, color guard, cymbal line, and the #4 bass spot might still be open, also. We have a very simple, workable schedule. In fact, we only get together for rehearsals, or shows for 19 more days, TOTAL, until our season is over. That's less than THREE WEEKS of your time, for a chance to perform with the Bananas! And that's only 19 days out of almost 200, between now, and our last performance at the DCA Alumni Spectacular, in Rochester, NY! Don't think you have the time? Think again! Hope that you will come and check us out this Saturday, in Bayonne! For further info, go to: www.bridgemen.com ...Jimmy J

  6. THANKS FRAN! The Bridgemen are looking forward to our very first appearance at the Dixie Stinger!!!!!!
  7. We only had a problem with some individuals in one corps. And then both corps came together in 1979 in a show of support for each other, and we "buried the hatchet". It wasn't a problem for us. We would hang out with many of our competitors and enjoy ourselves after the shows.
  8. 1) Anything less than 100% commitment. 2) Membership in two or more drum corps, at the same time. (See #1)
  9. Jim, You're welcome! I'm certain that the Legends are going to sound really terrific, and the event sounds like a lot of fun! I hope that you, Mike, and everyone else has a great time! Congratulations to Mike, and the other inductees!!!
  10. Sounds like a really great time! Wish that I could be there, but we have a camp weekend. Just a few corrections in regard to the years referenced for the repertoire... Larry Kerchner's arrangement of "My Favorite Things" was played by St. Andrew's Bridgemen, in 1973 and 1974. (It is listed as 1976, on the Legend's website) (This is one of the best drum corps arrangements that I've ever heard...imho) And Larry's arrangement of the "Civil War Suite" was played by the 1980 Bridgemen. Not in 1979, as listed on the site. (The 1979 arrangement of "Civil War Suite" was written by Ken Turner.) Can't wait to hear a recording from that night! It's going to be really awesome!!! Good luck, and enjoy yourselves!!!
  11. No...Weehawken! Great George Benson song..."Everything Must Change".
  12. Well said, LIZ!!! Now, change your avatar to show exactly where you're residing!
  13. Yes, but if I said Liz, not everyone would have known to whom I was referring, Tour Guide Barbie!!!
  14. Hey everybody! So, it's March 2nd, and the Bridgemen are doing really, REALLY well!!! We've got a great show, and our best corps, since we've gotten back together! 15. Your post is very accurate, imho. The poem, on the other hand, is silly, and juvenile. I agree with some of its sentiment, (in regard to the many changes that have taken place), but the wording, and overall message are rather pathetic, and far too negative. (LegalEagle, you're right!) I was as competitive as anyone, back in the day, on the field...but to tell someone from another corps that "they suck", or that you would "kick their #####, off the field" is just Neanderthal. Thank God we have evolved from such primitive thinking. (Or at least most of us, for that matter) Back in the day, I cheered other corps, because they were working just as hard as I was, and they were doing some pretty amazing things that I enjoyed watching, and listening to, when given the chance to play spectator. Did we encounter some problems along the way with our competitors? Yes, but like any of life's endeavors, we worked things out. I hope that drum corps has a long, and successful future, so that others can enjoy the experience that we've come to love, and embrace with all of our hearts. And I also hope that others will be able to enjoy the best part...forming lifelong friendships, with everyone in our activity.
  16. It's a sign of respect. For your corps, and for your audience. ...and back in the day, we used to salute various officials, as someone noted. Also... It's one of the few opportunities that we're given, to face the audience!
  17. (bold type mine) I agree with you, Frank! I was a proud member of Bushwackers during both of those years, and I am happy to have been a world champ, also! Both corps were excellent! I will never forget our first show in Montclair, NJ, 1988 with only 17 horns! We put on quite a show, and had only one contra player! (on loan from the mello section!) Great job...Laurie N!!! To end in a tie with the Sunrisers was just amazing!!!
  18. Karen...thank you for your kind words. I too, am touched by your remarks. When it comes to being Drum Major for the Bridgemen, I have always taken the responsibility very seriously, in spite of some of our crazy antics! I have always given "everything I've got", with all of my heart. That is how I learned to do things, at a very young age, and it is the only way that I know. No matter what the endeavor. It is all about passion, and energy. Of course, I think everyone in drum corps knows all about this combination, as evidenced by every drum corps that I've ever seen. Drum corps people are a very special breed, and our passion, and energy are unmatched by any other group, en masse. Of course, we're talking ALL human emotions, but ya gotta take the good with the bad, right? Our fights, discussions, arguments, creative differences, etc, are all incredibly intense, but then again, we also party with the same intensity, and we pull together as a family, at any given moment. We are ALWAYS there for one another, 24/7, regardless of race, creed, color, or corps, and we are part of a very beautiful experience. I know that you also accepted your responsibility as Drum Major of the Bridgemen, and (some other top-notch corps!), with the same degree of intensity, and dedication. That is why, like Ray, I would love for you to come and join us on this ride, once again. It would be great to have you back on board, and it would be so much fun to work with you! So, at the very least, I hope to see you at some point this spring, or summer, if you can swing it, OK? Back on topic (Sorry for the hijack, folks!) I believe that it couldn't hurt for DCI to have another Bridgemen, or VK...it could only help! (And VK is back, so... GO VK!!!) If a corps is able to incorporate some of the humor, and "radical" approaches that both brought to the table, in conjunction with a solid, and fundamental music/visual program...why not? Variety is the spice of life! ...Jimmy
  19. I agree, Vic. And then...Buddy!
