  1. bump for tonight's DCI Minnesota show even though they are currently on lightning delay.
  2. actually its pretty awesome. nobody is being a tool, and nobody is bashing X corps for Y show, so feel free to join in. honestly, at this point its 82 in my room, I highly doubt you could "heat it up" anymore...
  3. **BUMP** since BDB is now on...
  4. bump to hopefully get some more folks.
  5. figured I would get this seasons first AIM chat underway. either type in drum corps to the group chat room name, and invite yourself, or if you have issues with that, send me an IM (grneggsnsteak)
  6. Don't bother. Considering the majority of the people that live here don't fit inside the stereotypical box folks like yourself have put them in... WV is actually a pretty awesome place that offers some pretty awesome thing to do and see, but since everyone seems to think that if you visit WV you immediately begin to speak with an accent, chew tobacco, drink moonshine, and have desires to kiss your sister, most miss out on the hidden treasure trove. But anyway... Teal Sound - 63.300 - ok, I'll say it again for a second year in a row; those uniforms are ugly and look dirty. The show "In the Presence of Enemies" sounds like an interesting concept, but I was not sold on it last night. I don't remember much about the show, other than they had a bassist and a guitarist whom you could tell were working really hard, but you couldn't really hear them from where I was sitting (directly on the 30) except for one part, and then they almost overpowered the rest of the front ensemble. Spirit - 67.000 - WOW! The new uniforms look super sharp, and I really like how they look especially compared to the uniform of the last few seasons. Corpsreps.com has some great photos of the uniform. The show "Forging an Icon" sounds really good, and I really enjoyed the drum feature. \^/ GLASSMEN \^/ - 70.300 - I first heard "The Prayer Cycle" music in January, as one of my fraternity brothers is in the G-men contra section, when I first heard it, I told him this show will either be really good or it will flop...this show is really good! I think some first night jitters got the best of a couple guard folks with drops, and I would definitely like to hear the show without someone behind me talking very loudly about "OMG! WHY IS SHE STANDING ON HIS TENORS?!?!?" But this show will definitely be one that I download from this season. Great first show, GLASSMEN! CROWN - 76.600 - Wow. This show is August clean in June. My friend and I both looked at each other and were like "Oh...and its only June." I really really hope they don't peak early, and that this is as clean as it gets. I also can't wait to hear the final ending to the show, since I'm 99.8% sure that the way they ended the show last night is not the ending we will hear come regionals. Cadets - 75.800 - I'm going to be honest, the show kinda left me going "WTF?" but it was a good show, and the crowd really liked it. I need to see it again before I pass judgement on it. Bluecoats - 73.600 - This show is extremely well written, if you take the "dark" parts of the past 2 years and smash them together, that's the overall sound this year. Easily a Top 6 show, and another Bluecoats show to add to my iPod. PR - 73.500 - I think marching 4 contra holes is hurting the overall product, however, this show is still fantastic, and the music choice of "The New Moon in the Old Moon's Arms" is something that I think fits really well with Phantom, and I think I really need to see this show again and sit a little lower and more toward the middle to get the full effect. I have to say, I was slightly disappointed at Spirit, G-men, Bluecoats, and Phantom's scores, as they seemed a little low to me. Yes, Cadets and Crown were good, but I don't think Cadets were 2 full points better than Bluecoats/Phantom. Personally, I would have scored Spirit and Glassmen near where Phantom was scored, give or take a few tenths, Phantom 74.500 (+/- some tenths), and Bluecoats more along the lines of 75.775 if we're scoring Cadets at 75.800, but hey, I'm not a DCI judge. I missed most of encore due to visiting with friends who were marching, but I heard them playing the opener from "Defiant Heart" which to this day is still one of my very favorite Phantom Regiment shows. Thanks to my friend Matt for the photos of Glassmen and Bluecoats since they were better than mine.
  7. until you get to Huntington. p.s. at least we can properly spell Jeff Foxworthy.
  8. Phantom is rehearsing at Laidley Field that day. (via regiment.org) and they really aren't that far away; Princeton/Bluefield is an hour and a half south Charleston on I-77, Ravenswood is an hour north on I-77. Pt. Pleasant is an hour away on U.S. 35 or I-77.
  9. you forgot the best 2 Kansas songs freakin ever. like carry on my wayward soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon.....there'll be peace when you are dooooooooooooooooone....lay your weary head to reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeest, don't you cry no moooooooooore. and clooooooooooooooooooose myyyyyyyyyyyy eeeeyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyees; only for a moment then the moment's gone... but I still think it will be a smashing good time!
  10. epic. win. and for the record, I <3 Gaga! as someone said, yea she's weird, but so was David Bowie, Cindi Lauper, Annie Lennox, Madonna, I could go on dinosaurs...
  11. OVPAA is proud to announce their newest member and venture in furthering marching arts; Mountain Magic will begin competition in Season XIV as an A Class corps. The newest member of the OVPAA family of corps will feature the uniqueness of membership in our program will be restricted to youth ages 14 to 19 (High School freshmen to college freshmen) in a hope to foster confidence in abilities, provide a haven for learning what the art of drum corps is, and to mold members into future members of our other OVPAA family of corps Ohio Valley Thunder and Storm Troopers. "We feel, or at the very least hope that this will not only help take away some of the reservations of marching, but will also give kids who wouldn't normally think about marching a chance to get their feet wet" said corps director Danny Holderby. "Life was not designed as a prison in which man awaits his execution. It is not necessary for you to stay with what you have. You have the capacity for great achievements, great loyalty and great love. And I would say to you, if you have this dream to make things better, don't sell out short. Don't back away. If you have a song to sing, sing it. If you have a flag to wave, wave it. If you have a story to tell, tell it. If you have something to shout about in life, then stand up and shout it. It's your right. It's your experience." -John F. Kennedy Mountain Magic is proud to present their first ever production; "I Believe" by Gary P. Gilroy is adapted from a concept and music originally conceived by Richard Goss of New York, this production is a collaborative effort with Steve Martin that includes a unique blend of narration and vocals. The show explores the courage one needs to affect change, the service necessary to implement it, and the sacrifice that one makes to see change through. 17. Everyone loves a circus, especially little Lilly; so much that she runs away to join the circus. In their Season XIV production, Storm Troopers brings the circus to the field with Under The Big Top: The Greatest Show on Earth. Opening with Julius Fucik's roaring march Entrance of the Gladiators, the show sends Lilly off on a musical whirlwind of spectacle! Her fun hits a new level with Aram Khachaturian's Sabre Dance (from Gayane) as the stunt riders, jugglers entertain her, when out come the clowns with Danny Elfman's The Breakfast Machine (from PeeWee's Big Adventure.) But Lilly is captivated with the trapeze artist as they glide through the air to Enya's Watermark, but alas Lilly is saddened when all the circus performers leave her alone in the center ring (with a quote of Send In The Clowns). But not for long! Victor Young's The Greatest Show on Earth brings the circus and sawdust back to Lilly, and reminds us all that as long as the circus is in your heart, you are never too far from the circus! So come one, come all! Come to the circus, the greatest show on Earth! 18. In their Season XIV production, OVT will make you an offer you can't refuse. With music from Nino Rota and Carmine Coppola, OVT brings you "The Godfather." Beginning with the familiar strains of The Godfather Waltz and The Love Theme, our show takes flight. The show moves to the lush Sicilian Pastorale and the rousing Tarantella, before slowing to the beautiful theme The Immigrant. Finally, we hear the Intermezzo and the Godfather Finale as our show comes to an end with a bang, because after all, The Godfather is a very generous man...
