  1. Cadets 2000- We Are the Future is the best drum and bugle corps show of all time. The ending, especially, cannot even be described in words. It is simply the best music I have ever heard. Ever. And the visual program performed, simply supreme. Absolutely amazing. Every time I watch that show, especially at the ending, I just want to cry my eyes out. Just think about it. "We Are the Future." These 135 kids who spent their whole summer pouring every ounce of strength and emotion...into a product that represents these exact efforts. They are the future. They are adults now, with careers and professions, ready to fulfill their lives' true purpose. The drill move towards the end--the block folds into itself, into a complete mesh, and then almost miraculously reappears, emerges victorious once again, as it was before, stronger than ever. And at this point I completely lose it. Watching this show is an experience unlike any other. In fact, sometimes, I am almost reluctant to experience it again, fearing that this time might not be as good as the last. But it always is. It never gets old. At the end, as they march off this field, I feel a sense of utter completeness and satisfaction, as if nothing could be ever wrong in the world again. This is what I see in this show. I don't try to find straight lines, or perfectly tuned chords, or correctly articulated triplet passages. All of these are just the byproducts of the performers' constant efforts. I look for emotion, and I find it, eleven-and-a-half minutes of it. This is drum corps.
  2. Our very own TommySopranoContra made that. Very nicely done.
  3. Glad you liked it. Marching this show was completely amazing, and Jay Bocook did an incredible job with the music.
  4. Even just hearing the MIDI, I know this is gonna be awesome. 2006 is shaping up to be the best year since...2003.
  5. Me too. And I can't believe the Cadets have inched above the Cavies finally. They're on their way to becoming the 2005 DCI World Champions. That is, if Phantom doesn't get in their way. Wait...it isn't five-and-a-half months ago? :P
  6. The Cavaliers of today are nothing like the Cavaliers of 15 years ago, except for the fact that in both eras they have been universally loved. The two pairs of four consecutive shows I listed are the defining shows of each era. So the question is this: which consecutive four shows, out of the two time periods listed, do you prefer? I find the answer to this question very simple: 1989-1992, without a doubt. These are my four absolute favorite Cavies shows, and coindidentally they were performed consecutively. Sure, the drill is nothing compared to what they've been doing this decade, but the fact that the music they performed back then is lightyears ahead of their music this decade puts them over the top. Just listen to the first two minutes of the 1990 show and you'll see what I mean. Seeing that show live, hearing that musical moment, must have been one of the greatest feelings of the world. The Cavies of that era were loud, powerful, emotional, glorious...what a great four years. And for reference, in case you forget: 1989- Gloria 1990- Cavalier Anthems 1991- Cavalier Anthems: Advent Collection 1992- Revolution and Triumph 2000- Niagara Falls 2001- Four Corners 2002- Frameworks 2003- Spin Cycle
  7. Digga digga digga digga dut dahh...dut dah digga digga digga dah...
  8. How can you guys tell the difference between a soprano and a trumpet from that far away...?
  9. So I saw a TV commercial last night, and I asked myself, "How come no one has thought of this before?" I've also seen a few icons of South Park Characters in Cavalier uniforms. What other such parodies can you think of?
  10. Ahhh!!! I love that! The four points of the star keep rotating until they magically form that block, which grows into the huge triangle, horns go down as the corps hightails it to the middle of the field to form two vertical lines as the drumline pounds away the "Gloria" theme from the '89 show (nice little homage signifying the end of the '89-'91 trilogy)...you think they're done, but the lines keep moving, and the huge triangle emerges but upside down, they keep pushing, whip their horns up and belt out the rest of the show...no one in the audience is sitting at this point. Keep in mind this is all accompanied by a HUGE drum corps hornline sound ("DAHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! DAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! DAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!") for the entire ending, whereas these past few years the most I can expect from them is an in tune, in tone, mezzo-forte ("Dah. Dah. Dah." <**>)...the antithesis of drum corps. But this show...what a great way to finish off the greatest three years in Cavaliers history. Now THAT is a Cavaliers show.
  11. Sweet...how many corps have had fluegelhorn sections, and when? It doesn't seem to be too common nowadays. And what's the deal with what are called "altos" being used in the Blue Devils in the '80s...are these just mellophones?
  12. Seems too big to be a soprano...or is it? I'm so confused. For the record, that shot was taken from the 1989 Blue Devils. Can anyone help here?
  13. :) "Hopefully the same as it does now." Couldn't have said it better myself. Nothing like listening to a show from '86 and knowing that it would not only fit in but also be extremely entertaining and competitive in 2006.
  14. No no no. Jay Bocook has this knack for arranging amazing ballads.
  15. Oh please, she's going to have a short part, and she probably won't be singing words (let's hope not). There's been singing in drum corps before. Let's just hope the amplification doesn't make her way too loud, she needs to blend right in. Like when the Cavies sang the Gloria introduction in 1990, they were singing but it wasn't LOUD. Granted, it wasn't amplified, but still...
  16. http://link5.streamhoster.com/?u=yea&p=%2F....wma&odaid=1363 I'm...speechless.
  17. Can I pick favorite 15 consecutive years? Favorite two are definitely 1992 and 1993, though.
  18. 1990 and 1991. Blows all of their new stuff out of the water.
  19. Oh God...anyone who doesn't cry after seeing that has no heart.
  20. The link is http://www.txbands.com/media/info/?id=183. Disregard the singing, woodwinds, etc. Just want to see what you guys think.
  21. What's your favorite "daylight" finals performance? I say it's either Santa Clara Vanguard 1992 or Madison Scouts 1999.
