  1. That would make sense, Karsh Kale is in Tabla Beat Science.
  2. Does anyone know the source songs used in their show? I know the poetry was by Rumi. I know the first minute of music was Audiomaze by Tabla Beat Science...and of course the Erotica moment by Madonna, but that's it. Any help would be great. I've been searching Ravi Shankar songs with no luck.
  3. In 1992, when it was announced that Star was in 3rd place, the crowd in Madison when absolutely crazy for the Cadets. Maybe some were just glad that it meant the Cavies "probably" won, or the fact that the Cadets were just really, really good....or both. Whatever reason, I don't remember a crowd getting so excited when CBC was involved in the formula, not in the last 20 years anyway. I hope that IHOP considers that when they put together a show this year. If they really want the kids to be rewarded by crowd response, the 1992 show had no gimmicks, no props, no narration. Fresh concert music that fans had never heard. Fast drill from begining to end. More mellophone notes than the past 2 seasons put together. Like '93, and '97 and 98'. Shows people still talk about, even if they aren't usually a fan of the Cadets. 1) Please save the nostalgia for the encore. Move on. Stop living in the past. That's what the History Channel is for. You keep trying it and it doesn't work. 2) We've heard Danzon Finale before, PR '93 and Devils 99. This is gonna be like Malaguena...good..but not considered as good as the standard set by Madison '88. 3) Swing Swing Swing was great in '95. Then you tried to recreate it in '02 with Bugle Boy, and it wasn't all that. Sing Sing Sing is the same formula. You can do better. I'm not trying to be a negative nelly. I just really want the corps to be successful, and my definition of successful in a DC way means...I want the Cadets' show to be the one everybody wants to see. I mean an awesome, haunting show that people talk about for decades. Make it Fast, make it Furious, Make it New, Make it Cadets. That is all.
  4. For me, the "best " years for the Cadets (high scores + great fan reaction) in the past 20 years were when they placed a product on the field with music that hadn't been heard in a drum corps setting before. 92, 93, 95, 97, 98, 00. Danza Finale already won a championship. Sing Sing Sing was the template John Williams used for Swing Swing Swing. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Please give us something we've never heard before!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Mendota's Revenge Or Fresca (Lemon Squeeze, Stawberry Soup, I can cook too)
  6. I bet Phantom gets 6th place in colorguard, or 7th.
  7. OK, here we go again. What the hell is wrong with Regiment's guard book? They were 11th at finals last year and it looks like this year is going to be the same deal!
  8. Do you think that a corps' own legacy is their hardest competition? I was thinking about this while I was watching the Cadets and Cavaliers in Allentown. Yes, I know it's still June. BUT, I must say that neither of these programs seems to have the potential of their 1990 or 2000 editions. Cadets, oh Cadets. How did I love thee. I secretly filmed from the stands, and I've watched it several times now. Oh dear. I don't want to use the term "dumb down" because I would end up irritating all the BD fans out there, but it seems that the Cadet's show seems like it will definitely be "achievable" this year. I know my favorite Cadets shows are '90-93, '95-'98. '91 was definitely an odd ball compared to the others, but the reason I liked those shows and had so much respect for what they did...it had to do with stamina and velocity. Velocity of sound and movement, of all 3 sections. This show does not have velocity. Anywhere. Even if they add some to the real ending, it doesn't make up for the 9 minutes before that. I guess the point of this post is, do you think it is that history that stays in the back of the minds of the judges...and they maybe unconsciously compare 'what was' to 'what is'? Hands down, 1990 and 2000 would crush this year's show. But do the designers feel that if they want to compete to win now (which increases revenue and talent for the next year), they have to lower the legacy standards to compete with BD? BD is clean as a NASA toilet. It sparkles and shines...practically perfect. But hey, it's still just a toilet. If the Cadets want to be as "perfect" for scoring credit, do they have to take out 20% of their drill book? If they do, will the judges look down at them and consider the production less "on par" with what they EXPECT from the Cadets. School for Scoundrels is a very difficult piece to sell, just ask Crossmen '95. It's slow when you try to march it, and that makes GE an issue. I'm wishing the Cadets the best of luck...but having to compete with BD and your own past at the same time must be very, very difficult. None of my comments were meant to offend any particular corps or corps members. I cheer for every kid on the field. PS, GO CROWN!
  9. It was a JOKE PEOPLE! Look at the scores from finals!
  10. It was a joke. Just put the scores from finals '09 in the 70s instead of the 90s. Lighten up buttercup!
  11. Crown 79.5 Cadets 79.2 Cavies 78.15 I Predict...
  12. Cavaliers were good, but safe. CG uniform are totally MJ...and not in a good way. Flags were cool. I didn't notice Crown's uniform because I was too distracted by how good they are. Whoa! They want to win. Music is Star difficult. Cadets have a nice fun show (96/97) but they need to add some Kosher beef to that Velveeta. Not as many opportunities to water down compared to Crown. I do like it better than last year.
  13. I would rather hear a condensed movement of any Mahler piece than EVER HAVE TO LISTEN TO A SINGLE NOTE OF WEST SIDE STORY AGAIN!
  14. Maybe they are just tired of not being taken seriously. I remember another corps that seemed to have the same reputation. Then they played William Walton. Then they played Respighi. Then they won.
